Canelo Alvarez was largely outmatched by Terence Crawford on Saturday night.

In Las Vegas, Alvarez was beaten by Crawford over 12 rounds in the third loss of his career.

It was a remarkable performance from ‘Bud’ to win the undisputed super middleweight titles after moving up two weight classes.

Fortunately for the fans and for the challenger, aside from the AI judge, the scorecards also appeared to be somewhat in line with the consensus opinion.

While it was clear that the American was winning the majority of the rounds, even if the fight was competitive, the stats provide a greater insight into this.

Canelo Alvarez was more accurate than Terence Crawford despite convincingly losing

With everything that both men have accomplished in their careers, there are countless interesting stats about the records of Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

Ultimately, only three figures truly mattered on Saturday night, the scorecards, which were all in favor of the challenger.

While Roy Jones Jr. believes that Crawford’s first win came before a punch was thrown, the stats from the fight paint a pretty accurate image of what fans saw on September 13.

Alvarez certainly landed some shots of his own but his opponent wasn’t affected by them and at points, chose to trade with the Mexican superstar.

The data from Compubox shows just how Crawford was able to consistently stay ahead of his opponent in each round with far more activity.

However, a surprise figure shows that it was actually Alvarez who was slightly more accurate with his punches despite the elusive nature of his foe.

Stats (Compubox) Canelo Alvarez Terence Crawford
Total punches landed 99 of 338 115 of 534
Punch accuracy 38% 37%
Total power punches landed 83 of 260 70 of 208
Total jabs landed 16 of 78 45 of 326
Jab accuracy 20.5% 13.8%
Two other stats also highlight key aspects of Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford

In Compubox’s statistics for the fight, there are two other interesting comparisons that are drawn following Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford.

The first notes that Alvarez landed 32% of his power punches in the fight, compared to an average of 46% in his previous 12 fights.

Given that Crawford was moving up two weight classes many expected him to have a speed advantage in this fight, and while that was true, ‘Bud’ has always had incredible footwork that keeps him out of danger.

While Alvarez may have had an issue with landing something significant on his opponent, he still landed the second most shots of any of Crawford’s former opponents at 99, only being outdone by Egidijus Kavaliauskas at 118.

Some may argue that this was due to ‘Bud’ wanting to prove a point during the fight where he stood his ground for some of the bout’s most exciting highlights.

Anthony Joshua receives update on future in boxing as promoter targets ‘roll of the dice’ fight

Former world champion Anthony Joshua is set to see his immediate future in the ring thrashed out in the coming days, ahead of one final lucrative outing.

Missing out on a planned return to combat before the end of the year, Anthony Joshua had entered the sweepstakes to take on the polarizing Jake Paul in a return; however, the Ohio native is now booked to face Gervonta Davis in November.

And with a comeback potentially as soon as January now in the works as part of a historic trip to Africa for the former gold holder, Joshua is seemingly approaching a career swan song.

That swan song in question also appears to be in relation to the biggest fights in the division, culminating in a summer showdown.

Anthony Joshua backed for one last ‘roll of the dice’ clash in 2026

Not having it all his own way in the ring in the last couple of years, beyond an impressive four-fight rise in non-title fights, Joshua came unstuck in back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

And in his last venture to the ring, the Watford star was stopped in brutal fashion by Daniel Dubois, who launched an assault on the IBF heavyweight crown.

However, with a potential January return expected to serve as a warm-up clash, Joshua has been tipped to secure one final lucrative “roll of the dice” fight against a fellow household name by this time next year.

“He (Joshua) needs to get back in the groove against a top twenty guy, that he can go in, blow the cobwebs off, look good and gear himself up for the last big roll of the dice,” Eddie Hearn said on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“Right now, I would say January or February in Africa is very common, and I would be looking to head out to see AJ next week to try and finalise some plans.”

And amid plans for one final pageantry showdown, a particular fight has been mooted once more in the boxing scene.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua urged to fight by boxing royalty

On a collision course inside the ring for years at this stage, former world champion stars Joshua and his British compatriot, Tyson Fury, have failed to ever get a pairing over the line.

And it’s the belief of former undisputed world champion Lennox Lewis that if they fail to ever make good on their rumored fight, they would end their gold-laden career with a certain regret.

Lewis warned that based on his experience, he would have regretted not bookending his era in boxing with his fight against Mike Tyson, akin to a 2026 fight between Joshua and Fury.

Jake Paul is set to face off against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in what will be the toughest test yet in his boxing career.

Despite the pair agreeing to a bout on November 14, a massive change to the fight has already been made. Paul announced the change via his Most Valuable Promotions. According to the promotion, the planned Paul vs. Davis bout is being moved from Atlanta, Georgia, to Miami, Florida.

The fight was supposed to take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, which has a reported capacity of 17,000. Now, it moves to the Kaseya Center, where the Miami Heat play their games. The Kaseya Center holds 20,000 people.

Paul vs. Davis will still be streamed globally on Netflix, and fans can watch the matchup at no extra cost on the streamer. Considering the venue change, Paul, Davis, and MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian all made statements about the move via a press release.

“New city, same mission, seek and destroy the tank,” said Jake Paul. “Kaseya Center. Friday, November 14. I’m bringing the heat, and Miami will see me take down this angry elf while the world watches live on Netflix.” “Jake Paul has been cherry picking in the sport of boxing for a while now, but he picked the wrong opponent this time,” said Tank Davis.

“He better start losing some weight, chasing some chickens, and pray that helps him some on fight night! Thank you to Netflix for giving me the opportunity to whoop this clown!”

“Most Valuable Promotions, together with Netflix, is bringing the most disruptive fight of the year to Miami, and we could not be more thrilled to showcase this blockbuster event at Kaseya Center,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions.

“On Friday, November 14, fans in Miami and tens of millions watching globally will witness two of boxing’s most electrifying stars collide in a once-in-a-lifetime showdown. We’re grateful to State Farm Arena and the GAEC for their support in this process.”

Paul most recently defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by unanimous decision in June, and received a world ranking of #74 in the cruiserweight division as a result of his victory. For Davis, he most recently fought Lamont Roach Jr., but their bout ended in a draw.

There were rumors that Roach and Davis would rematch, but he instead chose to fight Paul. It will be interesting to see if Paul can keep pace with the WBA lightweight title holder.

Terence Crawford already made his feelings clear about fighting one specific opponent.

While UFC champion Ilia Topuria is targeting Crawford following this past weekend’s results, there’s a huge name in boxing that has been linked with ‘Bud’.

It isn’t clear where the new undisputed super middleweight champion will go from here after moving up two weight classes to face Canelo Alvarez.

One thing that is for certain is that it didn’t take long for Turki Alalshikh to suggest who he wants to see Crawford face next following a post on social media.

Terence Crawford didn’t rule out fighting David Benavidez but said he wasn’t interested because of the size difference

When he was asked about a potential rematch with Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford stated that his new direction hasn’t been decided yet following September 13.

This would obviously be the biggest fight out there for ‘Bud’, but there is another star that some, including Turki Alalshikh, want to see him in the ring with.

Alvarez has been accused of avoiding the 30-0 David Benavidez in the past.

The 28-year-old last competed at super middleweight in November of 2023, before moving up to light heavyweight for the next two bouts of his career.

Crawford, who beat the older brother of ‘The Mexican Monster’ (Jose Benavidez Jr.) in 2018, was asked about the prospect of facing him down the line during an appearance on the Pound 4 Pound podcast earlier this year.

“My thing is, Benavidez is a big dude,” Crawford replied. “Not to say I won’t fight him, I fought his brother. His brother was big when I fought him. The only reason why I entertain Canelo is because he’s not a big dude. He might be thick but he’s not a big dude.

“Benavidez is like six foot something, then he’s gonna come in 190, 200 maybe, you know what I mean? You never know, that’s a big dude… I might as well go to heavyweight if I fight Benavidez.”

How David Benavidez compares to Terence Crawford and some of his former opponents

As the youngest super middleweight world champion in boxing history at just 20 years old, David Benavidez has been one of the most exciting rising stars for some time.

While his undefeated record is very impressive, he hasn’t had the opportunity to face a star like Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, or even Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev as of yet.

For a comparison, here is how Crawford and Benavidez compare to one another, along with Alvarez and Jose Benavidez Jr., who was stopped by ‘Bud’ in the twelfth round.

Stats according to BoxRec Terence Crawford David Benavidez Canelo Alvarez Jose Benavidez Jr.
Age 37 28 35 33
Height 5’9” / 175cm 6’2” / 188cm 5’7½” / 171cm 5’10½ / 179cm
Reach 75” 74½” 70½” 71”

As Crawford himself said, the stats show that while there wasn’t much physical difference between him and Alvarez, Benavidez would be a whole different story.

Oleksandr Usyk has spoken out after he was spotted taking part in a charity football match despite sustaining some minor injuries following his clash with Daniel Dubois.

On Monday evening, the undisputed heavyweight champion featured in the ‘Legends Charity Game’ – which was held at Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon. Several football legends took part in the match, including Luis Figo, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho, Deco, Kaka, Peter Schmeichel, Petr Cech, Edwin van der Sar, Carles Puyol, Cafu and Michael Owen.

Pepe, Figo, Pauleta and Helder Postiga all scored as Portugal legends secured a 4-1 win over World legends in the inaugural Legends Charity Game. One of the biggest surprises from the match saw the Ukrainian swap the boxing gloves for the football boots. Usyk played 17 minutes in the first half and 6 minutes in the second half.

The aim of the charity match was to raise over €1,000,000 for several charitable organisations, including the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, Portuguese Red Cross, International Alert, and Caritas Portuguesa. Fans were left stunned after Usyk took part in the game despite having to postpone his mandatory world title defence against Joseph Parker due to an injury claim.

The Ukrainian was previously ordered to defend his WBO gold strap against Parker after beating Daniel Dubois in July. That said, the bout has since been delayed on medical grounds and recent reports revealed that Usyk’s team had been successful in their appeal for a 90-day extension.

Despite suffering a few injuries against ‘Triple D,’ Usyk remained under the close supervision of his team and medical staff in Lisbon. Speaking about the charity match, the two-time undisputed heavyweight champion said: “Football is my childhood dream. Now I want to help Ukrainian children to make their dreams come true. The Usyk Foundation raises money to help sixty four families have a home again. This is just a drop in the ocean — a million of Ukrainians have lost their homes. But we do what we can.” He added: “I consider sport as a very powerful tool to make the world better.”

Usyk, 38, participated as a guest, but also wanted to draw attention to his own charitable initiative – the Usyk Foundation. The current fundraising campaign by his foundation aims to raise €3million (£2.5m) for the ‘construction of new housing for 64 Ukrainian families who lost their homes due to Russia’s full-scale invasion.’

Last month, Usyk grabbed the headlines after he was filmed dancing at a music concert. After the clip went viral online, Parker’s promoter – David Higgins – was quick to question the Ukrainian’s injury. “I haven’t actually seen the medical evidence but you would think that a serious injury would prevent that sort of activity,” he said. While Usyk is not expected to return this year, Parker will have at least one more fight before facing the Ukrainian. The Kiwi heavyweight will take on British star Fabio Wardley in London on October 25.

Serena Williams Shares Mysterious Post About ‘Difficult August’ and Focusing on Her Mental Health

Tennis legend Serena Williams is opening up about focusing on what’s most important after a “difficult August.”

The former professional tennis player and Olympic gold medalist, 43, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a quartet of photos featuring her dressed in a long, red silk dress and silver pointy-toed heels. With her long, blonde hair in curly tendrils, Williams stood in front of a massive bookshelf and opened up about “learning to let go.” The post comes less than a month after her announcement that she lost 31 pounds using a GLP-1 medication.

“Dearest gentle reader, My summer started out well but I was plunged into a difficult August. Like many of you, I faced challenges that tested my spirit and resilience. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming and it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters—your mental health and well-being. I took some time away to breathe, to reconnect with myself, and to remember that it’s perfectly okay to pause and reconnect. Even if it’s just a quiet night to yourself. Anything counts,” Williams wrote in the caption.

The athlete, who has two daughters, Alexis Olympia, 8, and Adira, 2, with husband Alexis Ohanian, continued by saying that she’s “learned that the end of a matter is better than its beginning. And even though things haven’t reached their end yet, I’m also learning to let go and live life one moment at a time. The only thing I’m dealing with in this moment here is how good this dress looks against first editions.”

Williams ended the post by asking her followers how their summer was, and adding the hashtag “Lady Serena of Stockton Street.”

Williams Has Spoken About the Challenges of Motherhood

In the past, Williams has opened up about her public image as a sports icon and how she doesn’t believe that’s a true representation of one’s worth. Instead, she has shared how she feels the real sign of being a star is being someone your children can count on.

“I feel like everybody’s a champion,” Williams told PEOPLE last year. “You don’t have to be winning Wimbledon or a gold medal to be a champion. Being a champion is really just being there for your kids. I think that’s a huge champion.”

But with a lot on her plate as an athlete, founder, spokesperson, and mother, Williams can get overwhelmed.

“Being a champion is understanding that you’re not going to be a champion every single day. There’s no way you can win every single day. I need to take this advice to myself,” she shared. “But it’s really just about giving your best effort in whatever you’re doing, just do the best that you can on that day. Some days, you will be able to make a better effort. Some days, just waking up is a big effort. You just have to give what you can on that day.”

Rory McIlroy proves his class in ‘beautiful coincidence’ after toddler’s brain injury

Rory McIlroy demonstrated once more that he possesses just as much grace away from the golf course as he does while playing by spending quality time with a three year old golf enthusiast at this month’s Irish Open after she generated more than $30,000 for charity.

County Down youngster Alex Chambers had been welcomed to the tournament after event officials discovered her golfing fundraising effort, which followed her experiencing a brain hemorrhage less than two years earlier. McIlroy ultimately claimed victory in the tournament after a thrilling final round. It comes as McIlroy revealed Team Europe’s unique preparations for the upcoming Ryder Cup.

The previous year, after rigorous recovery and rehabilitation that left her in a coma, Chambers took on a mission to walk five miles to benefit Little Heroes charity, which provided support during her stay at the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children (RVHSC).

This year, she chose to tackle a golfing challenge at her neighborhood Scrabo Golf Club, where she took her first shot before walking the distance of nine holes.

When the Irish Open discovered her remarkable fundraising effort, they extended an invitation to The K Club for this year’s tournament, which resulted in an enchanting unexpected meeting with none other than current Masters champion McIlroy, reports the Irish Star.

“I just turned and Rory McIlroy was walking towards me,” Chambers’ mom, Nadine, told The Irish News. “I just thought well, what a beautiful coincidence.”

Nadine explained that she and her daughter, who has become “a big golf fan”, were attempting to locate the kid zone at the event when one of the staff members allowed them to pass through the clubhouse. There, they ran into McIlroy, who Nadine said wound up providing them with a moment that was more “significant” to their family than the Holywood golfer could ever realize.

“When Rory met her, I said, ‘Alex, who have you been looking for?’ and she went, ‘Rory, I’ve been looking for you!’,” Ms Chambers said of her daughter, who had decided that they were “going to look for Rory” that day.

“I don’t think Rory quite knows what that meeting meant to us and what it meant to Alex. It was a really significant ending to such a good fundraiser.”

Someone who previously worked at Holywood Golf Club had provided the toddler and her mother with a replica of McIlroy’s driver head on the chance they would encounter him. When presented with it, he was more than willing to help out.

“I explained the story to him and he was happy to sign it,” Nadine said. “I had a kind of brief chat with him about what we were trying to do [with the fundraiser]. He was happy to have a chat with Alex and get a photo.”

As for little Alex herself, she managed to raise over £22,000 ($29,000) for Little Heroes through her golf fundraiser and sponsorships from local businesses and community initiatives.

However, her mom also said that it was crucially important for her recovery, and since April, she has been able to learn to stand and walk independently, among other things, to put herself way ahead of schedule in her road to recovery.

LIV Golf star Phil Mickelson slams ‘disgusting rhetoric’ after Charlie Kirk assassination

LIV Golf star Phil Mickelson has been among the top sports figures to speak about the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, 31, was shot and killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The shooting sparked a 33-hour manhunt and led to the arrest of Tyler Robinson in connection with the incident on Friday. Mickelson appeared to be keeping a close eye on the rhetoric that has been used in the days since Kirk’s killing.

“The assassination of Charlie Kirk is bringing out some of the best in humanity and it’s also exposing some of the worst,” he wrote on X in response to a statement from the president of the Oxford Union. “The unification, love, support, and outcry on his behalf throughout the world is heartwarming.

“The number of people supporting Tyler Robinson’s appalling behavior has opened my eyes to a side of extremism with a moral superiority complex that has also shaken my belief in people in general. I hope they are held accountable for their disgusting rhetoric.”

Mickelson also shared a post featuring one of Kirk’s debates. The talk with another student featured Kirk shutting down a college-aged man and his “hate” for billionaires like President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

“His ability to use words and his intellect to win debates is what scared them,” Mickelson wrote.

On Sunday, the NFL world honored Kirk with moments of silence before teams played their games. There were only a handful of teams not to have a moment to pay tribute to Kirk.

The status of the proposed fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis – under scrutiny because of the weight discrepancy between the two fighters – has grown murky.

Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday, Sept. 16 that the promoter had withdrawn their request for event permits and rule waivers required to hold the event in Georgia.

The promoter was Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), co-founded by Paul and business partner Nakisa Bidarian.

“I believe it’s in the public’s interest to know that because they’ve been promoting something they should not have been,’’ Thompson said when reached by USA TODAY Sports.

In fact, on Tuesday, Sept. 16, tickets still were available for purchase online and the fight still was listed on the State Farm Arena event calendar, to be held Nov. 14. MVP announced the fight, which is supposed to be carried by Netflix, on Aug. 20.

MVP did not respond to questions about the fight submitted by email and text message.

One rule waiver MVP had requested would have addressed the weight discrepancy between Paul and Davis. Paul weighed in at 199½ pounds for his last fight and Davis weighed in at 133¾ pounds for his last fight.

The GAEC commission is scheduled to meet Thursday and was expected to vote on MVP’s requests. MVP needed the votes of three of the five commissioners for approval, and the chairman – one of the five commissioners – adamantly opposed the rule waiver that would have modified restrictions on the allowed weight difference between fighters.

“They probably evaluated a situation, knew that their weight differences were too much,’’ Thompson said.

Thompson said he was notified of MVP’s decision Tuesday by GAEC executive director Matt Woodruff.

In an interview with USA TODAY Sports Sept. 8, Thompson blasted the fight, calling it “the dumbest (expletive) I’ve ever heard.” He also said he didn’t think Paul was a competitive fighter.

But on Tuesday, Thompson said he hoped MVP could reconsider holding the proposed undercard for the Paul-Davis bout in Atlanta.

“We would love for the undercard to still fight in the state of Georgia,’’ he said. “We believe the undercard is something people would like to see.’’

Oleksandr Usyk’s Belts Under Threat as Football Clip Fuels Injury Outrage Amid Crawford’s P4P Takeover

In July, Oleksandr Usyk put the brakes on Daniel Dubois for a second time, solidifying his status as a three-time undisputed champion in both cruiserweight and heavyweight. Talk about a heavyweight title with a side of déjà vu! All eyes are now on a possible showdown with the interim WBO champ, Joseph Parker. Let the games begin! The WBO has given Usyk the green light to defend his titles, but it seems his team has hit the brakes on negotiations, blaming an injury for the delay. Yet, Parker’s promoter, David Higgins, couldn’t resist highlighting a viral clip of Usyk showing off his dance moves.

He suggested that someone with a serious injury wouldn’t normally be able to move like that. Regardless, Usyk was granted a 90-day extension by the WBO after he presented medical evidence while recovering from the injury. Parker is now facing Fabio Wardley in October this year. Fast forward to September 9, a report from ESPN revealed that Usyk will compete in a charity football match in Portugal on September 15, named the ‘Legends Charity Game,’ which will be held at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.

Oleksandr Usyk played for a cause

The charity game featured former Premier League stars such as Edwin van der Sar, Petr Čech, John Terry, and Michael Owen, among others. CEO of Sport Global, Rasmus Sojmark, revealed that the undisputed heavyweight champion personally reached out to him and asked to take part. Although the match was primarily for ex-footballers, Sojmark agreed—it was Usyk asking, after all.

The Ukrainian boxer used the occasion to promote his charitable initiative, the Usyk Foundation, which supports communities in Ukraine and the country’s army. Meanwhile, the CEO of Usyk’s team, Sergey Lapin, clarified that recovery doesn’t mean complete inactivity. “Usyk has not been prescribed bed rest; he is allowed to take part in charity sporting events and engage in moderate physical activity,” Lapin told Ready to Fight.

He added, “But it’s obvious that dancing or attending events is not the same as a three-month training camp for a title fight.” Regardless, Everything Boxing shared a clip from the match on X, captioning: “Undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk playing in the Portugal Legends vs World Legends football game today.” This comes as Terence Crawford was promoted to the No.1 spot in Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings after he defeated Canelo Alvarez.

Oleksandr Usyk, who previously held the spot, has now been moved down to the second spot on the rankings. Regardless, despite his team’s explanation, the footage ignited criticism online, with calls to strip Usyk of his titles spreading quickly across social media.

Fans allege Usyk faked his injury

The clip went viral, and one user questioned whether Usyk was injured. “Is he not injured?” Usyk will now return to boxing and decide whether to fight the winner of Parker and Wardley or relinquish his title altogether.

Another user sarcastically poked fun at Usyk. “Is this recent? I thought he was injured 😂😂,” the user commented. Usyk is not bedridden despite his injury.

The next user demanded that Usyk be stripped immediately. “Is this recent? I thought he was injured 😂😂,” the user wrote. However, that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Meanwhile, this user blamed Frank Warren for not pushing hard enough for the fight. “Lol Usyk really doesn’t give a f—k about fighting Joseph Parker, but tbf I don’t think Frank and Queensberry really pushed as hard to make the fight as they may have claimed,” the user commented. Regardless of how much a promoter pushes for a fight, the decision lies with the fighter.

Someone else roped in Joseph Parker into the conversation. “Parker is gonna love this 💀,” the user commented. However, he can’t really do anything until Usyk agrees to fight him.

Having said that, it appears Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to play the football match has caused fans to turn on him.
