Terence Crawford shouldn’t fight Jake Paul for one key reason, according to former world champion

Terence Crawford should steer clear of Jake Paul, says a boxing legend.

Last Saturday, ‘Bud’ relieved Canelo Alvarez of his undisputed super middleweight world titles at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Despite his tremendous ring IQ, there was nothing the Mexican could do to figure out his rival. Following the fight, Shane Mosley said Crawford would’ve beaten Floyd Mayweather.

Now, some fans would like to see the American take on ‘The Problem Child’. However, one boxing aficionado is adamantly against that idea.

Terence Crawford is above fighting Jake Paul, says Paulie Malignaggi

Terence Crawford is better than facing Jake Paul, according to Paulie Malignaggi.

‘The Magic Man’ would much rather see his countryman face fellow icons of the fight game.

In an episode of Boxing Scene Today, Malignaggi said: “There are MMA guys that are calling him out.

With Terence Crawford leaving Allegiant Stadium as the undisputed super middleweight champion, much of the boxing landscape has changed.

The result creates a lot of intrigue, and one obvious loser not named Canelo Alvarez.

Alvarez certainly lost a lot on Saturday night. He cedes all his titles to Crawford, leaving him without a world title first the first time since 2015. But as poorly as the night went for him, it was even worse for Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.

Without even fighting, Ennis’ career took a major hit on Saturday. More specifically, he lost the biggest opportunity that was potentially on the table. The biggest story of Ennis’ career over the last year has been his case to be Crawford’s next opponent, a narrative that effectively died on Sept. 13.

The fight is not entirely off the table, but it is holding on by a thread. Losing it does not necessarily hurt Ennis’ career, but it removes the most lucrative opportunity within his grasp.

Jaron Ennis is the biggest loser from Canelo-Crawford fallout

Ennis has been a star on the rise for years and is finally starting to turn the corner. His popularity has increased as his title reign progressed, leading to his 154-pound debut in October against Uisma Lima.

Along with Ennis’ rise in popularity came the fan push for him to fight Crawford. The two share similar career arcs, doing most of their best work at welterweight, before moving up to 154 pounds in the last year.

At 37, Crawford has been open about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. His activity has taken a nosedive lately, with just two fights since July 2023. At this stage of his career, Crawford is only fighting when it makes sense, and Ennis seemed to fit the bill.

The Alvarez fight certainly fit the bill, but it seemed like just a blip on the radar. Many felt that Crawford would lose as the smaller man. Even with those who believed in his skill set, not many expected a permanent move up to super middleweight.

But throughout the build to the fight, Crawford made it known that he was not taking the fight as a one-off. He dedicated months to putting on an adequate size to make Alvarez respect him as a legitimate 168-pound fighter. The effort was evident in his physique, and ‘Bud’ looked as smooth as ever while fighting with the added weight.

Ennis’ hopes of fighting Crawford went up in flames when he got his hand raised at the end of the night, but it truly died in the post-fight press conference. Crawford rejected any notion that he would return to 154 pounds, saying he would fight out the remainder of his career in his new weight class, if he is returning to the ring at all.

Losing Crawford is far from the end for Ennis, but the massive money fight that seemed just within reach is now gone. Perhaps getting the fight was Ennis’ motivation for moving up in weight to begin with, but regardless, it is now light years away.

Ennis already has his hands full with Lima, but the betting odds suggest he will handle that fight with ease. Winning that fight is priority No. 1, but Ennis needs to impress in his debut if he is going to become the pay-per-view star he believes he can be.

Should he get past Lima, there are still other lucrative options. Sebastian Fundora seems to have the most momentum in the division, with Xander Zayas and Vergil Ortiz Jr. also presenting valuable opportunities. Ennis fighting any one of those three would be enough to headline a fight card that fans would look forward to.

Regardless of what happens next, the Crawford-Ennis discussions will be almost entirely forgotten about a year from now. It might not have ever meant anything to Crawford, but what seemed like a massive opportunity for Ennis just a few months ago has now evaporated.

Fans back out of Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis after key detail is confirmed

Fans are ready to move on from Jake Paul’s upcoming bout with Gervonta Davis due to the ruleset.

There has been a lot of negativity surrounding Paul’s next bout ever since it was initially announced.

Critics immediately pointed to the huge height and weight difference between ‘The Problem Child’ and the boxing star that he has set his sights on.

JUST IN: Major Rule Announced For Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis That Has

However, it isn’t just some of the fans who took issue with the matchup seemingly being a physical mismatch despite their respective skill levels.

Paul’s clash with Gervonta Davis will now take place in Florida after receiving pushback from Georgia, which has led to some more details being revealed.

Fans react to Florida Athletic Commission confirming that Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis will take place as an exhibition

Speaking to USA TODAY Sports, the executive director of the Florida Athletic Commission, Timothy Shipman, confirmed that Jake Paul will face Gervonta Davis in an exhibition match.

“You can’t do a fight like that as a pro fight,” Shipman said. “It’ll be an exhibition fight.’’

Similarly to the concerning location move, he states that the main reason for this is the significant weight discrepancy between the two opponents.

An exhibition is defined by Florida statutes as “a boxing, kickboxing, or mixed martial arts engagement in which persons participating show or display their skill without necessarily striving to win using strikes and blows to the head or other full-contact maneuvers.”

While it always seemed like this was going to be the case once the bout was announced, this recent confirmation caused some fans to draw a line under the contest once and for all.

‘Yup. A fake fight and absolutely no one asked for. Will be a complete joke on an event.’

‘So a glorified pillow fight.’

‘Don’t watch it boxing fans and if it’s PPV certainly don’t buy it. Glorified spar, bigger gloves and no one can win. Both will hug at the end and walk away with millions, while your pockets will be lighter, don’t do it.’

‘So it’s official, they won’t be trying to hurt and knock each other out. What’s the point in this circus?’

‘This fight is dumb…’

‘Take another advantage off Tank then? Yeah, why not. 80lbs and now pillow gloves. Will be making him wear lead boots next.’

Jake Paul’s promotion had suggested wearing larger gloves to counter the weight discrepancy

Some of the replies listed above made reference to the fight taking place in “larger gloves” as another knock on the legitimacy of the bout.

While it appears that this quote was incorrectly attached to the Florida Athletic Commission’s Timothy Shipman, it was suggested by Most Valuable Promotions.

The article from USA TODAY Sports reports that MVP were prepared to accept the fight being an exhibition in the original location of Georgia and that they would take extra safety precautions to have the weight restrictions lifted.

These included wearing larger 12-ounce gloves and both fighters undergoing anti-doping tests via the US Anti-Doping Agency, or USADA.

Major Rule Announced For Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis That Has Fans Saying Fight Is ‘Waste Of Time’

Further clarity has been revealed ahead of the Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul is set to face WBA lightweight champion Davis at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida on Friday 14 November, after it was moved from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

The bout has received criticism from some of the boxing world due to the massive weight and size difference between the two men, with Paul having weighed as heavy as 227lbs in his boxing career, while ‘Tank’ has never competed above the 140lb limit.

Last time out, Paul fought at cruiserweight when he defeated former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June, while Davis was held to a majority decision draw in his WBA lightweight title defence against Lamont Roach in March.

It was believed that ‘Tank’ would have an immediate rematch with Roach until he instead he opted for the clash with Paul, but it had yet to be officially revealed what the rules the pair would be fighting under.

Executive director of the Florida Athletic Commission Timothy Shipman has now confirmed some of the plans, after he explained to USA Today that the clash will be an exhibition.

“You can’t do a fight like that as a pro fight. It’ll be an exhibition fight. “I’m looking at the details right now. I mean, it’s happening pretty fast. But I am sure there will be other stipulations because you can’t do it with the same requirements.”

Some fans have reacted poorly to the news, with one branding it ‘a waste of time’ – while another described it as a ‘clown show.’

Paul and Davis are set to meet at their first press conference on Monday, where the big size difference will be visible for the first time.

Though ‘Bud’ had scored extraordinary victories before, like the all-time great thumping he handed Errol Spence Jr. in 2023 to become the best welterweight, this victory crowned him the best across all the sport’s weight classes. Crawford is a generational talent, and he proved as much in front of 70,000 boxing fans at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and 42 million people on Netflix.

Considering the nature of his historic wins, combined with the platforms he’s fought on, it may seem strange to think that Crawford’s true wealth-building phase is yet to begin. He’s made a helluva lot of money, of course. For the beating he gave Spence, he earned a reported $25 million. A further $10 million headed to his bank for the Canelo win, he said. But this is significantly less than the apparent $150 million windfall Canelo took home.

Crawford accelerated his name-value with his wins, though, and he’ll have advanced the types of paychecks he could command in the near future. He could, very soon, quadruple his wealth – particularly if he was to follow the same playbook that Floyd Mayweather and Tyson Fury did during their peak money-making years in boxing.

Crawford may even have prepared the sport for a trick that ‘Money’ and ‘The Gypsy King’ perfected, and it sets the groundwork for the prospect of nine-figure paydays in the near future.

Terence Crawford to Emulate Floyd Mayweather & Tyson Fury

Mayweather and Fury made retirement a business.

Through their respective careers, they both announced abrupt retirements, only to return to the fight game often to attract greater paydays than they ever earned prior to those announcements.

Aged 30, Mayweather walked away from boxing after stopping Ricky Hatton, which earned him a reported $25 million in 2007. Two years later, Mayweather came back from retirement to win $60 million by beating Juan Manuel Marquez, which launched a second prime run for him. In 2015, Mayweather announced that he was once again done with boxing at 38 years old, having tallied $700 million in career earnings. Two years later, Mayweather again returned to fight Conor McGregor in his final retirement comeback for a $300 million score to become the sport’s first billionaire boxer.

Fury, too, perfected the art of turning retirement into theater and a promotional strategy.

In 2015, after dethroning Wladimir Klitschko — one of the decade’s best wins — Fury vacated the heavyweight belts, suffered from depression, and claimed retirement multiple times. However, he returned in 2018 and fought Sefer Seferi, Francesco Pianeta, and then Deontay Wilder, which sparked a thrilling three-fight series to earn Fury $120 million across the trilogy. After finishing Dillian Whyte in 2022, Fury returned against Derek Chisora, and a Riyadh Season swing which saw him fight Francis Ngannou and Oleksandr Usyk (twice) to take home more than $200 million.

Now, it appears to be Crawford’s turn.

In the run-up to the Canelo bout, Crawford repeatedly emphasized that he was only taking things “one fight at a time.” However, he’s also always indicated that he wants to retire on his “own terms.” Following his legacy-defining win over Canelo, he did not definitively rule out retirement, but he didn’t commit to fighting one more time, either. “I don’t know,” he said.

“I’ve got to sit down with my team and we’ll talk about it.”

Crawford only competes once a year.

And the opponents who make sense right now (Gennadiy Golovkin in a defense of his undisputed crown at super middleweight, a Canelo rematch, challenging Janibek for his middleweight belts to become a six-weight world champion, or even a bloodbath bout against Sebastian Fundora. Heck, even Ilia Topuria in a crossover bout involving the UFC superstar) may not be who makes most sense when Crawford fights again in 12 months time.

And so he could be preparing the world for a retirement statement, only to return in one year, like he would have done all along, against the best option that optimizes his earning power before he retires for real. History dictates that it’s an effective strategy to maximize the monetization of a final hurrah in boxing, like two of the sport’s icons have done before him.

Crawford has built an approximate net worth of $50 million in boxing so far, but if he plays it right, he could quadruple his wealth in the next few years. After all, if Mayweather made boxing a business and Fury made it theater, Crawford may be about to make it both — and laugh all the way to the bank as a result.

3 wild super fights Terence Crawford could make if Canelo Alvarez opts against rematch

Terence Crawford finds himself in a funny spot after winning the biggest fight of his career.

‘Bud’ beat Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision to become the undisputed super middleweight champion on Saturday night.

In doing so, the 37-year-old became the new face of boxing and the pound-for-pound number one.

Canelo Alvarez Terence Crawford

However, there is a distinct lack of viable opponents for him to face if Canelo Alvarez opts against pursuing an immediate rematch.

Terence Crawford may have to think outside the box to make his next money-spinning super fight.

Bloody Elbow believes three fights could deliver another monster payday for the American superstar.

Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn II winner

Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn sold over one million pay-per-views when they fought in April.

Naturally, an immediate rematch was booked after Eubank eked out a unanimous decision win after 12 rounds of pulsating back-and-forth action.

Whoever wins their November 15 rerun will be in a great position to call out Terence Crawford.

Eubank, in particular, has campaigned at 168lbs for large portions of his professional boxing career.

The super middleweight division would be less natural for Benn, but Crawford would surely have no problem dropping down for the right opponent.

Eubank and Benn seem like the two boxers, other than Canelo, who could provide Crawford with another big payday.

Ilia Topuria

UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria is clearly very keen to switch sports and fight Crawford.

The Spanish MMA star recently sent a threat to Crawford amid their escalating social media feud.

Topuria is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the UFC, who appears to be on the verge of superstardom.

A crossover fight between him and Crawford could deliver Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor numbers.

UFC CEO Dana White says he’s not interested in his fighters moving to boxing, but now that he’s involved in the sport as a promoter, the likelihood of Crawford vs. Topuria happening has become a real possibility.

Jake Paul

Hardcore fans might hate this one, but Jake Paul also makes our list of potential opponents.

At this point, it’s undeniable that the former Disney star is one of the biggest draws in boxing.

65 million people tuned into Netflix to watch him fight a 58-year-old Mike Tyson last year.

The 28-year-old will probably draw a bigger crowd for his clash with Gervonta Davis on November 14.

If Paul gets through that fight unscathed, you can bet he’ll be issuing a callout to Crawford, who would be silly not to consider taking that fight due to the vast amount of money up for grabs and the relatively low level of opposition.

Davis may be small, but many expect him to kill the Paul vs. Crawford conversation before it gets started.

For now, Crawford can just sit back, relax, and wait to see what opportunities come his way in the next few months.

Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul fight could still take place on one condition

Eddie Hearn remains open to a fight between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul, provided the latter isn’t defeated by Gervonta Davis.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer recently returned to the ring for the first time since his victory over Mike Tyson in June, taking on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Paul emerged victorious in a dominant decision over the former middleweight champion. Just months after this win, the young American confirmed he will be facing Davis on November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

In recent months, Paul has been vocal about wanting a showdown with Joshua, which seemed likely to happen early next year. The ‘Problem Child’ was so eager to fight the two-time heavyweight champion that he was even prepared to accept a mere ONE PER CENT of the purse.

However, after a brutal snub from Joshua, it appears the Brit has moved on. ‘AJ’ hasn’t fought since his loss to Daniel Dubois last September but is expected to make a comeback next year. Amid discussions of a return, Hearn has not ruled out a potential clash between Joshua and Paul – but concedes they will completely move on if the ‘Problem Child’ is defeated by ‘Tank’, reports All Out Fighting.

“I spoke to Nakisa Bidarian today (Monday), they want to make the Jake Paul fight,” Hearn told Ariel Helwani. “And I said to Nakisa ‘we were right up for that fight, and we would do it. But, we cannot take that fight without seeing what happens against Tank.’ Because if you get flattened by Tank, don’t even think we can make an AJ fight.”

It would not spell disaster if Joshua misses out on facing Paul, as Hearn acknowledges he is eyeing a massive bout for his prized fighter next summer. “Right now, we are planning to return in January or February. It has been well documented. We have had that offer, an approach from Ghana, and I think it would be the most tremendous thing for AJ to fight in Africa,” Hearn continued.

“I really do. When you look at what he has done in his career, I think it would just be wild. He needs that fight. It has been a year now that he has been out of the ring. If we are going into a (Tyson) Fury or we are going to a (Daniel) Dubois, (Oleksandr) Usyk… whoever it is going to be… there will be a major fight next summer.”

Hearn reckons a potential showdown between Tyson Fury and Joshua would represent boxing’s biggest spectacle. The ‘Gypsy King’ declared his retirement in January following consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk last year, but dramatically reversed his decision in July.

Despite his previous comments, Fury has stated that he won’t be stepping back into the ring, even though he regularly posts training videos. Regardless of whether Joshua fights the ‘Gypsy King’, Hearn is keen to arrange a match for his star against a top contender next summer.

The boxing promoter concluded: “He needs to get back in the groove against a top twenty guy, that he can go in, blow the cobwebs off, look good and gear himself up for the last big roll of the dice. Right now, I would say January or February in Africa is very common and I would be looking to head out to see AJ next week to try and finalise some plans.”

Eddie Hearn feared he had made huge Anthony Joshua mistake

Eddie Hearn feared he played the wrong hand when it came to signing Anthony Joshua.

Joshua has enjoyed a glittering career at the top of boxing’s heaviest division. The 35-year-old was destined for greatness after he struck gold at the Olympic Games in London back in 2012. Following his triumph on home soil, major promoters were eager to tie the Brit down.

‘AJ’ received several multi-fight deals and life-changing money. It came as no surprise, seeing as he was tipped to become the poster boy of British boxing. Joshua met up with Hearn, but the latter decided to make a real gamble. The promoter urged the boxer to take his time and meet with everyone else before making a final decision.

It was a risky move from Hearn, especially after he did not hear from Joshua for six weeks. It was at that point 46-year-old feared the young boxer had made a slight mistake. In ‘Matchroom: The Greatest Showmen’ – which is now airing on Netflix, Hearn shared his earlier memories of Joshua.

“Anthony Joshua is definitely the most important figure in our boxing business… ever,” said Hearn. “He became Olympic champion in 2012 and every promoter in boxing wanted to represent this man… the race was on to sign Anthony Joshua. Anthony is a deep thinking, he is a gatherer of information and I never heard from him and I thought, what have you done? Then I got a message saying he wanted to come back in. He said, ‘I’ve met everyone and I want to sign with you, that changed out company forever and we’ve shared some moments with AJ.”

Hearn’s father, Barry – who is the founder and president of the Matchroom empire – followed up on his son’s comments and admits he too was itching to sign the Brit. “I was desperate to sign him straight away and Eddie said no,” he admitted. “Give him some time, let him come to us. It was about a year and Joshua had been around every operator in the world.”

The Hearns have since stuck with Joshua after the British boxing sensation penned a deal with the promotion in October 2013. On the topic of the Hearn family, Joshua said: “Matchroom are family run business, Barry, the Godfather, what he’s achieved coming from a council estate like myself, I take my hat off to him. One thing I do want is to buy that house, the Matchroom office from him, that’s one of my goals. Eddie is good at what he does and I’m good at what I do. I’m like the artwork that goes on the wall and Eddie’s there to sell the art, but if I was a bad boxer, Eddie would not make the time for me.”

Joshua has enjoyed some memorable moments under the guidance of Matchroom. After making his professional debut in 2013, ‘AJ’ quickly rose up the ranks across the regional scene, but it was evident early on that he was able to compete with some of the best in the world at heavyweight.

The 35-year-old first became a world champion in 2016, knocking out Charles Martin in the second round. Joshua went on to defend the title multiple times and pick up more hardware along the way with wins over the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Carlos Takam, Joseph Parker and Alexander Povetkin.

He suffered the first defeat of his career in 2019 after he was stopped by Andy Ruiz Jr in New York. That said, he went on to get his revenge in the immediate rematch, before eventually going head-to-head with Oleksandr Usyk on two separate occasions in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Despite losing both outings, Joshua regained some sort of momentum with wins over Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou. ‘AJ’ has not fought since losing to Daniel Dubois last September. The two-time heavyweight champion is expected to return early next year in what could be his final year as a boxer.

Canelo woke up after Crawford loss to experience something he hasn’t in seven years

Canelo Alvarez’s seven-year streak as a reigning world champion is over.

Terence Crawford ensured this by claiming an astonishing win over the now former undisputed super-middleweight king.

The 70,482 fans packed into the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, as well as those who tuned in to watch worldwide on Netflix, witnessed two pound-for-pound greats in a historic showdown.

After overcoming the odds, that were undeniably stacked against him having climbed two-weight classes, Crawford extended his professional record to 42-0.

It showed how dominant a boxer Canelo had been given the shock loss marked the first time in seven years that he was not in possession of at least one belt.

Although his incredible streak as a title holder may now be over, he is undeniably one of the 21st Century’s pound-for-pound greats.

What was Canelo Alvarez’s seven-year reign as world champion?

The Mexican began his impressive streak in 2018, when he achieved a narrow majority decision win during his rematch with Gennady Golovkin.

Canelo handed the longtime champion his first loss as he claimed the WBC and WBA middleweight titles.

A year later, Canelo defeated Daniel Jacobs to claim his opponent’s IBF middleweight title and become the unified WBA, WBC and IBF champion of the division.

Continuing his impressive streak in a second outing in 2019, the Mexican challenger stepped up to add the WBO light-heavyweight world title to his collection when he knocked out Sergey Kovalev.

Then, in his lone appearance of 2020, he went head-to-head with Britain’s Callum Smith.

Canelo dominated their bout in order to claim the WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine super-middleweight titles.

As he faced mandatory WBC world super-middleweight challengerAvni Yildirim in 2021, he not only defended his title but also knocked his opponent down in the third round.

After another KO win, Canelo was matched up to face-off with Billy Joe Saunders.

Following an eight-round stoppage due to Saunders sustaining a gruesome eye injury, their clash ended with Canelo winning the unified WBA, WBC and WBO super-middleweight belt.

From there, Caleb Plant had the only title of the super-middleweight division that Canelo had not yet claimed.

He ensured that no stone was left unturned when he got the opportunity to face the IBF title holder, Plant, in 2021, as Canelo delivered an 11th-round knockout to become the undisputed champion of the weight class.

Off the back of his continued success cleaning up in his fourth division he only lost once during his illustrious stint, when he clashed with Dmitry Bivol in Las Vegas in 2022.

Canelo’s staggering seven-year streak of title possession continued until September 2025 when he lost in Sin City.

  • 2025: Lost to Terence Crawford

Despite the loss, Canelo is a highly regarded pound-for-pound great that has held titles in four weight classes across his 20 years on the scene.

Crawford moved up two weight classes to challenge Canelo for his super-middleweight titles and action the ‘fight of the century’.

Many viewed victory as an unlikely outcome for Crawford due to the size difference between the men.

Although, his performance on Saturday night certainly proved any doubters wrong.

The 37-year-old defeated Canelo and in doing so became the first male three-weight undisputed champion across the four-belt era.

Not only that, but the Nebraska native also joined an elite group of five-weight world champions.

Rematch could decide Terence Crawford’s next opponent after being ordered following show-stealing fight of the year

A highly anticipated rematch has been ordered following a phenomenal bout in Las Vegas.

On Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium, Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez to become the new undisputed super middleweight champion.

The fight was competitive but it was perfectly clear that ‘Bud’ won the vast majority of the rounds in a spectacular performance.

In the co-main event, Callum Walsh beat Fernando Vargas Jr. to remain undefeated in a clash that didn’t exactly earn its high placement on the card.

It was clear to many fans in hindsight that the fight that took place before it should have been moved one spot higher due to its show-stealing action.

Christian M’billi vs Lester Martinez rematch ordered by the WBC

Canelo Alvarez may have beaten Terence Crawford in one key area, but the fight for the most part, was a stunning performance rather than a back and forth classic.

The same cannot be said for the WBC interim super middleweight bout between Christian M’billi and Lester Martinez that took place on the four-fight main card.

Both men went toe-to-toe with one another for 10 rounds, with the competitive nature of the fight being best defined by the fact that it went to a draw that produced few complaints from the fans.

On Wednesday, the WBC ordered the two undefeated competitors to start talks for an immediate rematch after M’billi kept hold of his belt.

Martinez had filed a request for a rematch, setting them up for a rematch that is going to attract a lot more attention this time around.

There will be a 30-day negotiation period for the parties to come to an agreement, though there is also a designated purse bid attached if this isn’t met.

The winner of Christian M’billi vs Lester Martinez 2 could end up leaving with one of Terence Crawford’s belts

As the WBC interim super middleweight champion, Christian M’billi could have been declared as the mandatory challenger for the winner of the main event had he emerged victorious.

A fight with Terence Crawford could still await the winner of this rematch, though this seems unlikely for several reasons.

We don’t know whether ‘Bud’ will choose to continue fighting at super middleweight after moving up two weight classes and even if he does, both M’billi and Martinez aren’t going to be the biggest names on the table.

By the time this rematch happens, there could even be a scenario where the title that Crawford just won is put on the line if it’s clear that he isn’t going to defend it in the near future.
