Jake Paul‘s dreams of becoming world champion may have just been dashed.

Whether boxing fans like it or not, Paul has become one of the biggest names in the sport in recent years, having been involved in a number of high-profile fights, albeit some of them for very controversial reasons.

Last November, he took on a 58-year-old Mike Tyson in what was the heavyweight icon’s first professional bout in nearly two decades, with Paul winning by unanimous decision and Tyson looking exactly like a man who’s prime had been in the late 1980s.

Most recently, Paul defeated former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a cruiserweight contest in June, and had hoped that could pave the way for him to achieve his dream and earn a future world title shot.

It appeared that ‘The Problem Child’ was set to be ranked by the WBA and WBC, although backlash from fans may have forced those governing bodies to make a U-turn on those plans, but that hasn’t stopped Paul from targeting a showdown with WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack.

Those plans may have been dashed though, after Give Me Sport revealed that legendary promoter Don King denied a request from Paul for his fighter Noel Mikaelian to step aside from his world title rematch against Jack, following their initial bout in May.

Jack returned from over a two-year absence to defend his belt against Mikaelian, claiming a majority decision win, but many fans felt the verdict should have gone the other way, leading to an immediate rematch being called by the WBC.

Despite Paul’s hopes of landing the bout with Jack, it seems the rematch with Mikaelian will indeed go ahead, after it was reported that a deal had been agreed between the two parties, ending the need for purse bids that were scheduled for Tuesday.

Shakur Stevenson is riding high off the back of an extremely watchable win over William Zepeda.

The American entered his latest WBC Lightweight World Title defence facing claims that he was not main event worthy due to a lack of engaging in fights, content to rely on his elite defence to win over twelve.

Whilst the Zepeda fight did go the distance, Stevenson stayed in the pocket for extended periods of time to showcase his stellar defence, countering the challenger and slipping around 700 shots, according to Compubox. He won a wide unanimous decision.

With his belt retained and feeling a fresh appreciation for his skillset, Shakur has turned his attentions to what’s next. Out of blue, Conor Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) appears to be in the mix.

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show alongside Benn, Stevenson told the Brit that he is willing to more up to welterweight to face him.

“Let’s make it happen … I won my fight. Your last fight what did you do? I just told you [I’ll jump up two weight divisions] at 147. What are you gonna do? You’re not that big, bro. You’re not gonna hit me.”

Benn – who recently jumped two weight classes himself to face Chris Eubank Jr and will do so again in their September rematch – responded by claiming Stevenson was hurt on Saturday night against Mexican pressure fighter Zepeda, and that he would feel a different power moving up.

“Zepeda almost knocked you out. I saw the legs buckle. I thought, at 135 this guy thinks he come come up 147 and fight me? We ain’t close to the same size … Listen, I’ll come back down and fight you at 147 in November.”

Finally, Stevenson agreed and the pair shook hands.

“November? Yeah, I’m down … After I beat you, just tell me I’m great.”

The exchange was friendly with a hint of competition, but neither man looked to be anything but serious about the fight plans. Whether or not it makes sense for their career trajectories is another matter.

Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr are in a war of words.

The boxing legends have been going at it for weeks now, and it’s getting heated.

Jones Jr kicked things off. He said Mayweather wouldn’t be able to beat some of the great boxers from the past. Mayweather didn’t like that one bit.

Mayweather hit back hard. He posted a video of Jones Jr getting knocked out. That’s when things really started to heat up.

Jones Jr didn’t back down. He said he’s ready to fight Mayweather for real. No exhibition matches, he wants it to count.

“If you want to fight, come on. I mean I ain’t tripping, you ain’t gotta troll me come see me, that’s who I am I don’t do talk well you know. I ain’t heard nothing yet but they know where I’m at and they know how to find me. Ain’t gonna be no exhibition, I want it real, ain’t no sense of being an exhibition, what we gonna play for? We both fight for real, what we playing for? We make it real, exhibition for people playing, we ain’t playing, I ain’t anyway.”

But not everyone thinks it’s a good idea. Claressa Shields, the female boxing star who calls herself the ‘Greatest Woman Of All Time’, shared her thoughts. Shields has won world titles in five weight classes and is undisputed in three. She knows her stuff.

In an interview with K.O Artist Sports, Shields said:

“I would love to see it. I don’t think Roy Jones can do anything with Floyd. Floyd can still fight right now so I would have to say Floyd [wins].”

Even with all this talk, the fight probably won’t happen. But the feud? It’s not slowing down anytime soon. These two legends just keep going at it.

Roy Jones Jr. likely never imagined he’d find himself feuding with someone eight years his junior after all these years.

Though comfortably retired, the four-division champion has stepped back into the spotlight to fire back at Floyd Mayweather.

Floyd Mayweather was TBE at making money, but look at his highlights and look at mine,” Jones Jr. said in a 2018 interview. “You can’t pretend it’s the same. You can’t pretend there’s ever been anyone [who] came close to doing what I did.” If that earlier jab wasn’t enough, the 56-year-old’s stance hasn’t softened with time. “To me, people don’t give him enough credit. People always say ‘Well, Floyd would have beaten Sugar.’ No baby, Floyd is not nearly as mean as Sugar was,” Jones Jr. recently remarked while comparing Floyd Mayweather to Sugar Ray Leonard on the All The Smoke Fight podcast.

Money Mayweather’s response was anything but subtle. The undefeated boxing icon took to Instagram earlier this month, posting a series of clips showing Jones Jr. being knocked out by Glen Johnson, Antonio Tarver, and others, a clear dig at the former champion’s remarks. Jones Jr. fired back quickly, but the 50-0 boxer’s antics didn’t go unnoticed. Now, one of Roy Jones Jr.’s former opponents is stepping in with a sobering take on the escalating back-and-forth.

Yesterday, Seconds Out shared a YouTube video featuring a candid interview between Radio Raheem and Bernard Hopkins. When asked who would win in a hypothetical matchup between Roy Jones Jr. and Floyd Mayweather, ‘The Alien’ offered a measured take: “It all depends on who throws more punches.” Raheem then brought up the 48-year-old’s recent antics – sitting in front of a screen watching a reel of Jones Jr.’s knockout losses, and asked the 55-8 boxer whether he found it disrespectful. Hopkins replied, “I think it was more of a show of a man vulnerability at that moment when Roy was fighting, (Antonio)Tarver, I believe or Glenn Johnson.”

Reflecting on the moment, Hopkins shared a broader lesson he’s learned over the years: “I was a villain of it to put a man down when he is down at his side or when he is down by a punch.” Despite losing to Roy Jones Jr. in 1993 and failing to capture the vacant IBF World Middleweight title, Bernard Hopkins showed respect for his former rival. He praised Jones Jr.’s unique, almost unrepeatable style and stated, “If you look at Roy Jones’ defeats and you look at his longevity of victory, and very unorthodox unusual, probably never be again style that he had, I think that good of him in his era will always, always stands now, overshadows anything that what the opposite means—defeat. Roy Jones’ rewards and his victories supersede 10 times than his defeats.”

To close out the interview, Radio Raheem asked Hopkins what he would say if both Roy Jones Jr and Money Mayweather were in the room, listening to him. Hopkins didn’t hesitate: “Make sure you get paid if you fight.” And just like Bernard Hopkins, Oscar De La Hoya also weighed in on the matter.

Oscar De La Hoya breaks down the beef between Floyd Mayweather vs. Roy Jones Jr.

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Oscar De La Hoya offered insight into the mindset of retired fighters and how that very mindset might be fueling the tension between Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr. When asked about the feud, given his own history with Mayweather, the Golden Boy head honcho dismissed any personal involvement. “No, I’m good with him. I have no business,” he said. “We see all these young kids fighting. So sometimes the emotions get in the way, you know.”

While De La Hoya chalked up the feud to post-retirement restlessness, he acknowledged that Roy Jones Jr. is known for speaking his mind. “He speaks the truth,” De La Hoya noted, while also pointing out that “Floyd is Floyd, and he’ll defend himself till the end.”  But while Oscar views the back-and-forth as harmless entertainment, Roy Jones Jr. clearly doesn’t see it that way.

After Floyd Mayweather mocked him on social media by sharing knockout clips, Jones Jr. initially brushed it off, asserting he was entitled to his opinion. But later, in a more pointed exchange with Seconds Out, the former champion revealed how personal things had become. “You wanna fight? Come on. I ain’t tripping. You wanna troll me, come see me,” he said defiantly. While the odds of the two actually stepping into the ring are slim, especially with the weight gap, boxing has a way of turning long shots into headlines.

Jake Paul’s bold claim that defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. would earn him a place in the WBC cruiserweight rankings has fallen flat.

In the latest WBC update, released two weeks after the Chavez Jr. fight, Paul is nowhere to be seen—not in the Top 15, not even in the Top 40.

This scenario unfolds despite the YouTuber stating that a win over former middleweight champion Chavez Jr. would secure him an official WBC position.

Paul did his part by outpointing Chavez Jr. over ten rounds in Anaheim. However, he expected recognition from boxing’s traditional sanctioning bodies.

But WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, who had previously flirted with Paul’s ranking eligibility, has withheld a spot entirely, even from their expanded list of 40 cruiserweights.

Fighters with far lesser profiles and less media traction, such as Veljko Raznatovic and Tristan Kalkreuth, feature instead.

WBA to review Jake Paul’s ranking
Hardcore boxing fans will applaud the WBC’s move, especially given Paul’s #14 ranking by the WBA, which remains in place pending a formal review.

Craig Parker, who Paul replaced on the WBA list, spoke exclusively to WBN about the situation.

Asked by WBN if he made a complaint, as stated by Ring Magazine that pro boxers had, Parker denied he was one of them.

“No, my team and I didn’t feel the need to do that,” he told WBN.

“I spoke publicly not just for myself, but for a lot of boxers who felt the same way. That was enough. Now, I’m locked in on what I’m doing and what’s coming next (August 5).

“I think if they put him there, then stand on it. That’s on them.

“Now it just gives him the chance to step in the ring with real fighters, guys like me who earned it the long way,” he added.

WBC Cruiserweight Rankings – July 2025

Meanwhile, the current WBC cruiserweight champion remains Badou Jack, with Michal Cieslak holding the interim strap.

Top contenders include Noel Mikaelyan, Ryan Rozicki, and Chris Billam-Smith, all of whom boast proven resumes in the division.

For Paul, this snub could be a reality check, or perhaps a power play from a sanctioning body unwilling to be swayed by social media stardom alone.

With no WBC International, Silver, or even fringe title in sight, it seems for now: No belt. No ranking. No exception.

Shakur Stevenson made a big statement with his latest world title defence.

He was putting his WBC lightweight title on the line against mandatory challenger William Zepeda at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York, in a bout that many felt could have been Stevenson’s toughest test to date.

Stevenson had received some criticism for his recent performances, but he appeared to silence those critics by putting in a dominant performance, claiming a unanimous decision victory after the judges scored it 119-109, 118-110, 118-110 in his favour.

It meant that Zepeda suffered the first defeat of his professional career, while Stevenson extended his unbeaten record to 24-0, and has now turned his attention to who he wants to share the ring with next.

Speaking at his post-fight press conference, Stevenson once again made it clear that he wants to fight his long-term rival and fellow world champion Gervonta Davis.

“Who’s next? I told you all who I wanted to fight. The best vs the best. That should be my next fight. I told you all I’m a dog and a top level, elite level fighter. Let’s make boxing great again. Let’s put the best fighters in the ring together and let’s see who comes out victorious.”

Who would win Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson? Scouting Report - Bad Left Hook

Davis holds the WBA lightweight title, and was expected to return to action in August for a rematch with Lamont Roach, after their controversial first meeting back in March.

That was thrown into doubt though after ‘Tank’ was recently arrested, but Roach has claimed that their rematch is still scheduled to take place next month.

Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are just days away from meeting in the ring for the second time.

The first time these two fought was back in August 2023. Usyk was already a unified champion, having twice beaten Antony Joshua on points, while Dubois was still learning his trade and coming up through the ranks.

Despite a good start that had Usyk on the canvas after an attempted body shot, it was ruled low and the Ukrainian was given the time he needed to recover.

By the ninth round, he was back on top and stopped Dubois, with many suggesting ‘DDD’s heart was broken and that he gave up.

Since then, he has more than proven himself with three straight KO wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Joshua, most recently back in September when he defended his IBF strap.

The pair go at it again on July 19 at Wembley Stadium for all four major belts and Usyk recently revealed the hard work he has been putting in during the last few months with a picture of himself on his social media. Fans were immediately impressed and commented on his physique.

“Now that is some frightening SHAPE!” said one, while another commented, “Best he’s ever looked,” and a third claimed, “Ain’t no one stopping this man. Look at him. SOLID.”

A win for Usyk makes history and could mark his final fight as he becomes the first man to ever be a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era, while for Dubois it would very much announce him as the best in the world.

Gervonta Davis has got to stop using women as sparring partners, following another arrest for hitting a female last month in Florida.

That’s the view of Hall of Fame promoter Lou DiBella, who fired a scathing warning at Davis, calling for real consequences.

Police say Davis went to retrieve his two children when an argument escalated into a physical altercation.

According to police reports, the world champion boxer allegedly struck her in the back of the head, slapped her face, causing a minor lip cut, and reportedly threw a small box at the victim.

The victim texted her mother for help, who witnessed the altercation and recorded video evidence. Davis was taken into custody after a patrol cop flagged a license plate on Lincoln Road.

Police took another mugshot as he was booked at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade. Davis is being held on $10,000 bail and reportedly refused to sign the Miranda rights form.

Davis, who spent 44 days in prison two years ago and had been on parole, faces charges, including a misdemeanor battery/domestic violence charge.

‘Tank’ has a long-running legal history: prior domestic violence arrests in 2022 and 2023 (one dropped, one dismissed) and a 2020 hit-and-run conviction.

DiBella’s Scathing Warning
The arrest has sparked intense backlash from boxing figures calling for real ramifications, especially considering Davis’ pattern of targeting women.

Reacting to news of yet another run-in with the law, DiBella didn’t mince words on social media:

“Again? Lovely. What a waste of talent and opportunity. There must be repercussions at some point. Women aren’t sparring partners!”

The boxing veteran, known for promoting champions and advocating for fighters’ rights, made it clear that he has had enough of the repeated out-of-the-ring issues that have plagued Davis throughout his career.

Calls for Accountability Intensify
Calls are growing louder across the sport for Davis to face real accountability, with figures like DiBella now demanding action, not silence.

Whether that comes from promoters, commissions, or broadcasters remains to be seen. But one thing is clear — even Tank’s most prominent defenders are running out of patience.

This latest saga has thrown his rumored rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. in August into doubt.

Gervonta Davis found himself in hot water again after he was arrested on July 11 in Miami Beach on charges of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Reports emerged that Davis slapped his former girlfriend in the face and hit her on the back of the head which left her with a cut inside her lip. Her mother also recorded a video where the WBA lightweight champion was seen throwing objects at the victim.

The incident occurred on Father’s Day, June 15, when Davis went to pickup his children from his exes home in Coral Gables. The former couple shares two children together.

Davis was released on bail Saturday morning and cameras were there to capture the first images of him since his arrest. He was seen walking out covering his face with a t-shirt, while multiple police officers escorted him to a vehicle, which can be viewed below.

Fans have reacted on social media to his arrest and release, with many taking a firm stance against it.

“He’s a disgrace to the sport of boxing.”

However, Davis still had some supporters in his corner.

Although Gervonta Davis is one of the biggest superstars in boxing, he’s certainly no role model outside the ring, often finding himself in trouble with the law. And this most recent incident put his rematch against Lamont Roach in jeopardy.

Their first encounter ended in a majority draw as ‘Tank’ took a deliberate knee but didn’t have a knockdown scored against him. Considering the controversy surrounding the fight, the rematch is massive for both fighters. Roach has claimed that the fight is still on course despite the recent turn of events.

Anthony Joshua will have been out of the ring for over 12 months by the time he returns.

The former two-time champion was last seen competing in September 2024 when he was stopped inside five rounds by young IBF champion Daniel Dubois.

That came after a period of rebuilding following two back-to-back losses in 2021 and 2022 to Oleksandr Usyk, which left Joshua without any of his three world title belts.

Right now, he is out recovering from minor elbow surgery but will soon be back in the ring and looking for an appropriate opponent.

Speaking to JackPotCity, former WBO heavyweight champion and current interim champion Joseph Parker was asked about the fight he would like most, and he went with the man who beat him back in 2018.

“I would most like to avenge the AJ fight because back in 2018 I was a very different fighter to the fighter I am now, and AJ is a different fighter as well. He’s been the poster boy for boxing and he’s brought a lot of attention to boxing, and I’d like to avenge that loss. I would love the opportunity to fight Joshua. I think he’s had some surgery, and he’s looking to come back again, so if that opportunity arises, I’ll take it with both hands, and it’ll be a great fight. If he’s still motivated and passionate about boxing, he should keep going. If that’s what he wants to do. He’s still got a lot to give.”

A rematch between these two would be a good fight for both at this stage. Parker holds the interim WBO strap and is keen to push on for a world title and Joshua is in need of getting back to winning ways and proving he still has plenty left and big ambitions of his own.

Parker, as mandatory for the full belt, is first in the rotation of challengers to face the winner of Usyk and Dubois’ upcoming undisputed contest. If the Ukrainian wins, there is a chance he decides to vacate the belts, meaning Parker could soon be elevated or fighting for the belt. Joshua would do well to keep him in his sights.
