Canelo Alvarez‘s career suffered a major setback in September when he lost to Terence Crawford in their super-middleweight encounter.

Entering their contest as the undisputed champion at 168lbs, many felt that Canelo’s physical advantages would prove too significant for his naturally smaller opponent to cope with.

As it turned out though, Crawford produced one of his career-best performances to outfox and often frustrate the Mexican through large spells of their showdown.

It soon became clear that ‘Bud’ was not only in possession of the more calculated strategy, but also had the right temperament and technical advantages to put his gameplan into action.

It came as no surprise when Crawford was announced as the unanimous decision winner and in turn cemented his legacy by becoming a three-division undisputed champion.

That achievement is remarkable in itself, but even more impressive was the optics of a 38-year-old, seemingly coming towards the end of his career, being able to clinically dismantle his much bigger rival.

It would appear that there is not so much a particular attribute for Crawford, but rather a well-rounded approach, that almost makes him the full package. That much, at least, was expressed by Canelo during their post-fight press conference. When asked why he fell short on the night, Canelo simply put it down to not being able to figure out his opponent’s style.

“We knew Crawford is a great fighter. I did what I was supposed to do I tried every way.

I tried very hard. He deserves all the credit. I tried my best. I just couldn’t figure out his style.

He has everything.”

Crawford’s skills could be about to be put to the test again, with a potential move down to middleweight on the cards as he sets his sights on one man in particular.

Canelo names the opponent whose power was on another level

Canelo Alvarez has shared the ring with a number of big punchers throughout his illustrious career.

The Mexican icon has had tremendous success over the years, becoming a four-weight world champion, along with a two-time undisputed super-middleweight world champion.

He has only failed to defeat three men, Floyd Mayweather, Dmitry Bivol and most recently Terence Crawford, but has also overcome a number of still challenges, defeating heavy hitters such as Gennady Golovkin and Sergey Kovalev.

Golovkin is often praised for the brute strength he showed during his fights, but Canelo has revealed that one of his past opponents hit even harder than the Kazakh superstar, heaping praise on James Kirkland whilst talking to the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game YouTube channel.

“Everybody can say Golovkin, but I never felt that bad like Kirkland. Kirkland hit my arms and it felt like rocks. I say I need to finish this guy right now, because he’s going to hit me all the fight around.”

Canelo fought Kirkland back in May 2015 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, and while the Mexican icon claimed a devastating third round knockout win, it is clear he was impressed by the power of his rival.

Kirkland last competed in 2020, with his record reading 34 wins from his 37 fights, with 30 of those victories coming by knockout, displaying just how powerful the American is.

As for Canelo, his next move is currently unknown following his loss to Crawford in September, but he recently revealed who he deemed to be the better of the two between ‘Bud’ and fellow former foe Mayweather.

Despite losing to Terence Crawford in September, it would seem that Canelo Alvarez still has a number of lucrative options for his next outing.

The former two-time undisputed king entered his last assignment as a sizeable favourite, only to find that Crawford, the considerably smaller man, had far too many tricks up his sleeve.

As a result, Canelo lost his super-middleweight crown, which he had reclaimed with a win over William Scull earlier this year, via a unanimous decision.

Immediately after suffering his third professional defeat, though, the 35-year-old maintained his desire to not only remain in the sport, but further enhance his already illustrious career.

And now, it seems, he could soon secure the opportunity to do just that, albeit away from his more familiar territory at 168lbs.

For years, Canelo’s name has been linked with that of David Benavidez and, even now, fans are still clamouring to see the pair lock horns.

But while it is a matchup that seems to make perfect sense, Canelo has never quite reciprocated Benavidez’s enthusiasm for the potential showdown.

The two were first mentioned in the same breath when they were both campaigning at 168lbs but, since then, Benavidez has become the WBC light-heavyweight champion.

Since moving up in weight, the 28-year-old has amassed points victories over Oleksandr Gvozdyk and David Morrell, with his next assignment, against Anthony Yarde, headlining a card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 22.

And yet, while remaining focused on the task at hand, Benavidez has invited Canelo to move back up to 175 and challenge him for his belt.

“I haven’t given up complete hope in that fight. I feel like, until he retires, and he’s out of the sport of boxing, there’s always going to be a possibility of that fight being made.

At the end of the day, what other fights are left for Canelo? Now, it seems like I’ve got the cards

in my hands: He doesn’t have any belts at 168[lbs].

I have a belt at 175[lbs], and I’m planning on getting all the belts at 175[lbs].

[Canelo] says he’s chasing greatness. He did what he did at 168[lbs], so now, why not come up to 175[lbs] and do the same thing?”

Benavidez’s clash with Yarde takes place next weekend, on a bill that also features Brian Norman Jr defending his WBO welterweight title against Devin Haney.

Canelo Álvarez breaks his silence and addresses rumors of a split with Eddy Reynoso

Over the past few days, rumors had surfaced suggesting that Canelo Álvarez had split from his longtime trainer, Eddy Reynoso.

To address the speculation, the Mexican boxing star broke his silence on social media with a clear message meant to put the doubts to rest: “Thank you for everything,” he wrote.

Canelo Álvarez’s Message to Eddy Reynoso

Determined to end the growing speculation surrounding his relationship with Reynoso — one that spans many years — Canelo shared a post today featuring two photos of himself alongside his trainer to wish him a happy birthday.

The message accompanying the post was brief but powerful, and many saw it as a reaffirmation of the bond between the two:

“Happy birthday, apá. Wishing you many, many more. I love you so much — thank you for everything, always.”

With this post, Canelo Álvarez indirectly confirmed that he will continue working with Eddy Reynoso in preparation for his upcoming fights — a significant clarification given that the Guadalajara-born fighter still has several bouts lined up for 2026.

A Show of Unity After a Tough Loss

The message comes on the heels of Canelo’s unexpected defeat to Terence Crawford, a result that left many fans and analysts stunned and put the Mexican champion in a challenging position looking ahead.

Despite the speculation, his relationship with Reynoso appears solid — at least judging by this public gesture.

Just days before this post, Canelo had shared another video on social media showing Reynoso and other close friends congratulating him on his 20-year boxing career.

“How’s it going, my champ? Congratulations on these 20 historic years. It’s truly been an honor to share so many of them with you — and the ones still to come. Keep going, my champion! There are a lot of people here who love you and are proud of everything you’ve achieved in the ring,” Reynoso said, reaffirming his loyalty and support for the boxer as they look ahead to the next chapter together.

Ever since news broke that Jake Paul’s November 14 bout against Gervonta “Tank” Davis was cancelled due to a domestic violence lawsuit filed against Davis at the end of October, Paul has been scrambling to find a new opponent.

Paul’s team has made it clear that, while the initial November 14 date is now off the table, they still fully intend for Paul to headline a Netflix card by the end of 2025. December 12 and December 19 appear to be the most likely dates for this fight to take place.

However, given the high standard Netflix has set with its previous boxing events, they aren’t going to settle for Paul fighting against some no-name boxer. This is why Paul has reportedly reached out to several of the sport’s biggest names to see if they’d be willing to face him next month. These include Terence Crawford, Ryan Garcia, Francis Ngannou, and MMA legend Nate Diaz. I

It’s too early to tell which (if any) of these guys will sign up to fight Paul and whether they’d do so in December. But one can’t fault Paul for trying.

Jake Paul’s Stance on Potential Canelo Alvarez Fight Turns Heads

It was interesting to see that Paul didn’t reportedly reach out to Canelo Alvarez’s team to potentially fill in. Then again, not only is Canelo still on the mend from elbow surgery after his September loss to Terence Crawford, but he and Paul were deep in fight negotiations earlier this year before Canelo pivoted at the last minute and signed a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh instead.

Turki was very opposed to Canelo fighting Paul as one of those four fights, which is why Canelo pivoted. However, a comment Paul made about potentially facing Canelo in the future from a November 6 ESPN article suggests Turki Alalshikh might have changed his mind.

“I think Turki is the man who can make it happen,” Paul said of fighting Canelo. “I’m open to it, Turki has expressed some interest in it, and, obviously, Canelo had already signed up to fight me, so I think all that is left to do is to make it happen.”

Canelo vs Crawford

The fact that Turki “has expressed some interest” in making this fight happen is a complete change of heart compared to how he felt about Paul vs. Canelo (and Paul in general) earlier this year.

Paul is right in saying that Turki has more than enough influence to make this fight happen, which means this once nearly-finalized fight could come to fruition as soon as 2026.

Former world champion Canelo Alvarez has provided the biggest update yet on his future in the ring, claiming he is now more passionate than ever to fight again.

Now over a month removed from his most recent ring walk, Canelo Alvarez suffered a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford in the pair’s blockbuster undisputed super middleweight title fight.

Having suffered just his third pro loss following prior defeats to Dmitry Bivol and undefeated megastar Floyd Mayweather, Mexican star Canelo has been sidelined since through surgery.

However, amid links to a host of fights, including a rematch with Crawford next, the Jalisco puncher has provided a new update on his return to boxing.

Canelo Alvarez claims his fighting career will continue

Expected to continue his recent partnership with Saudi royal adviser Turki Alalshikh in his return to the ring, Canelo has been linked with a laundry list of outings — including a career-first clash in the United Kingdom.

However, celebrating his 20th anniversary since his first professional bout, Canelo claimed the fire and passion he has for the sport is burning hotter than ever.

“20 years in, I still feel the same fire I had when I first stepped into the ring,” Canelo posted on Instagram. “Every victory and every challenge has made me who I am today. I’m deeply grateful to my family, fans and to Mexico — you’ve been my strength and my inspiration since day one.

“Everything I’ve achieved, I carry with the pride of my people,” Canelo continued. “The fight continues, and my passion is stronger than ever.”

Terence Crawford linked to showdown with Canelo Alvarez rival

With his own career in the ring still up in the air, Nebraska star Crawford has also been tied to a whole host of potential matchups next.

As well as potential historic title charges against a star tipped to prove a major problem for him, the Omaha pugilist has been offered a shootout by a former world champion Canelo outscored him with ease before their clash.

Canelo Alvarez has been in the news a lot in recent years, however, after his recent defeat to Terence Crawford, the environment of the former champion from Guadalajara has been quieter than usual.

Now, Saul Alvarez has reappeared on social media, with a photo that has moved several of his fans, but also worries about the physical condition of Alvarez Barragan.

Through his Instagram, Canelo Alvarez uploaded a photo where he can be seen sitting on a couch with two of his daughters, Maria Fernanda Alvarez and baby Eva Victoria Alvarez. But, although the Guadalajara-born fighter looks calm, what worries several of his fans is that Canelo Alvarez is wearing a sling on his left arm, as he was recently operated on.

What was Canelo Alvarez operated on for?

Canelo Alvarez underwent surgery on his left elbow on October 23, 2025, in a surgical procedure called arthroscopy that serves to clean and repair accumulated damage in his left joint.

Some of Saul Alvarez’s fans wondered if Canelo’s surgery was caused by the fight with Terence Crawford, but this is not the case, as Alvarez Barragan suffered the damage to his left elbow from all the years he has fought in elite boxing.

Canelo Alvarez’s next fight would not be until mid-2026 and his recent surgery would prevent him from getting into the ring before that date. It is still unknown who Saul Alvarez’s next opponent might be, although many believe he could fight Terence Crawford again to regain all his titles.

What is true is that Canelo Alvarez has shown another side since he lost to Terence Crawford, as he has shown himself to be more attached to his family. Recently, he congratulated his son Emily Cinnamon on his 18th birthday; now, Canelo reappears hand in hand with his other two daughters and his injured arm, hinting that perhaps his family will now be the priority and that the time is approaching to put aside the boxing gloves.

“What Else Is Left For You?”: Canelo Offered Mega Fight Lifeline Following Terence Crawford Loss

Canelo Alvarez appears to have been offered yet another ‘mega-fight’ just weeks after he was beaten by Terence Crawford.

The Mexican great was handed the third defeat of his professional career by ‘Bud’ Crawford when they clashed in Las Vegas on September 13, surrendering his undisputed super-middleweight world championship in the process.

Canelo had gone into his clash with the American star as the favourite but could not match the tempo that had been set by ‘Bud’ on fight night, leaving him faced with a style that appeared to frustrate him over the course of their historic 12-round clash.

As he prepares to enter what could be the final few years of his decorated career, Canelo has been offered an opportunity to finally lock horns with long-term rival David Benavidez, who currently holds the WBC light-heavyweight title.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Benavidez claimed that he is ‘still hopeful’ that a showdown between himself and Canelo can be made, as he admits he is targeting ‘all the belts’ at light-heavyweight.

“No I haven’t given up complete hope in that fight. I feel like until he retires and he’s out of the sport of boxing, there’s always going to be a possibility of that fight being made.

“And for good reason because at the end of the day, what other fight is there left for Canelo? And now it seems like I got the cards in my hands, he doesn’t have any belt at 168 and I have a belt at 175 and I’m planning to get all the belts at 175.”

Benavidez is set to make the first defence of his WBC world title next month as he prepares to face Britain’s two-time world title challenger Anthony Yarde on Saturday November 22 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The post-fight conversation Canelo vs Crawford already points to a new superstar looking for an opportunity.

Although the historic fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford is already in the past, the attention of the boxing world has not been diverted from these names. Just over a month after this fight, where the American defeated the Mexican and stripped him of his super middleweight titles, the first challengers willing to step into the ring with the undisputed champion have already begun to emerge.

While both fighters have taken a breather because neither has confirmed upcoming fights, new names have emerged on the list as possible challengers and one of the first has been Jermell Charlo, who already faced Canelo and now raises his hand to face Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford.

Jermell Charlo wants to face Crawford: “The best fight he can do is with me”

In a recent interview with The Ring Magazine, former world champion Jermell Charlo made no secret of his desire to face Terence Crawford in the near future. Charlo, who has not fought since his decision loss to Canelo in 2023, said that a fight against the undisputed champion would be the ideal challenge:

If I were to be offered a fight with Crawford… I spoke to him once, and it would be an honor to get in the ring with him. Just for what he has done to become undisputed champion, he completed something that I did not complete. To be in the ring against Crawford would be incredible

Jermell Charlo

In addition, Charlo made it clear that from his perspective there is no better opponent currently for Crawford than himself: “I would give him the best fight of the current era. I don’t think there’s another fight in the boxing world that Crawford can do right now. The best fight, actually, would be against me,” the fighter added.

Jermell Charlo vs Terence Crawford: What is known about a possible fight

So far neither Crawford nor his team have officially responded to Charlo’s statements, however, the idea of facing another former world champion with a history in the super welterweight division could be attractive to a boxer like Crawford who has already proven that he can make the leap to higher divisions.

Although Charlo’s last performance left doubts about his current level, his name carries weight in boxing, and the fight with ‘Bud’ could happen if a good purse comes along. However, at the moment many possible opponents have been mentioned for the American and at the moment there is nothing official about the plans of the undisputed champion.

Terence Crawford Owes Turki Alalshikh A Real Fight: After Canelo Gift, It’s Time To Face David Benavidez

Terence Crawford owes Turki Alalshikh a favor for choosing him as the guy to fight the faded Canelo Alvarez to knock him off his perch as the King of the 168-lb division.

Turki wanted Crawford 42-0, 31 KOs) as his guy to fight the Mexican star rather than David Benavidez, who the U.S fans wanted to see fight Alvarez. No one was asking for Canelo-Crawford.

Crawford wasn’t even on the list. His fighting style had never resonated with the larger public and was more favored by fans who enjoy Tom and Jerry fights.

NETFLIX NUMBERS TELL THE TRUTH

As we saw, it wasn’t ‘The Fight of the Century.’ It was boring, and Netflix viewing numbers for 41 million viewers weren’t even equal to half of the 108 million Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson produced in 2024.

Turki’s recent comment on X on September 14th about whether Benavidez can still make 168 was seen as a big hint that he wants to set up a fight between Crawford and him.

”Can David Benavidez still make 168 pounds?”

Time to Pay Turki Back in Blood Since that’s what Turki wants, doesn’t Crawford owe him to give him the fight that he wants? I mean, he reportedly paid him $50 million for the Canelo fight, and it wasn’t the match the U.S. or world public wanted.

Crawford should show his gratitude by facing Benavidez and providing an entertaining battle for him and the American fans. They just saw a boring fight between Canelo and Crawford that didn’t even match the entertainment of the undercard fight between Lester Martinez and Christian Mbilli.

Crawford has been calling himself deserving of being among the top of the all-time greats, saying, “Now I’m on top of Mount Rushmore.”

ONLY BENAVIDEZ CAN VALIDATE CRAWFORD

If Terence wants to be at the top or one of the three best fighters of all time, he owes it to Turki, himself, and the fans to face the walking guillotine David Benavidez.

It’s the only way he can be remembered as an all-time great because beating a washed Canelo and a car crash ruined Errol Spence isn’t good enough for Crawford to be on Mount Rushmore.
