Kai Trump has named Tiger Woods as one of the biggest influences on her golf journey following her recent debut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Junior. It comes after she revealed her shared love with grandfather Donald for another sport.

The 18-year-old became the first relative of a sitting U.S. President to participate in an AJGA event this week when she lined up alongside some of the nation’s most promising young golfers at Bay Hill, in what is one of the most competitive junior golf tournaments in the country.

This year alone, Trump – who is set to represent the University of Miami in 2026 – has already featured in the 41st Nicklaus Junior Championship and the Sage Valley Junior Invitational, while she secured her biggest golfing achievement yet with a T3 finish on the Srixon Medalist Tour last month.

What Could Vanessa Trump's Ties to Tiger Woods Mean for Her Golfer Daughter's NIL Deals?

JUST IN: Hilarious golf mishap at Rory McIlroy’s home club goes viral

Unfortunately for Donald Trump’s granddaughter, she couldn’t follow it up with another impressive result at the APIJr, finishing 26th, second to last, with a score of 35 over par, but it was what she said afterwards that really caught the eye.

Speaking to the American Jr Golf Association in her post-tournament interview, the teenager was quizzed about her roots in the game and the biggest influences on her journey so far, where she namedropped a familiar face.

“I would say a lot of the pros, obviously, like looking up to them and watching them,” Trump began. “Obviously, Tiger [Woods], Rory [McIlroy]. Like watching those guys, especially at such a young age, and now I get to know them.

“It has been really cool, and that obviously kind of influenced me. But also, I’d say like my mom, I wouldn’t be playing golf without her.”

For any young aspiring golfer, Woods is always likely to be someone they look up to, and that’s no different for Trump. However, given the 49-year-old is now dating her mom, Vanessa, it holds even more significance.

Especially considering the golf icon could now be in a position to help mentor his new love interest’s daughter, alongside his own son, Charlie, who also continues to make waves in the junior age groups.

Following the death of his mother, Kultida, earlier this year, Woods was spotted breaking his cover alongside Trump as the duo turned up to the Genesis Invitational together.

The pair were seen wearing clothing from Woods’ Sun Day Red brand, with Trump sporting the company’s Luxe Lounge mid-weight quarter-zip pullover, which she paired with a white polo and black trousers.

Around the same time, the young golfer, whose willingness to walk alongside Woods suggested she approves of his relationship with her mom, had signed an endorsement deal with TaylorMade, which co-created Sun Day Red with Woods.

With Woods and Vanessa’s relationship said to be going from strength to strength, it can only be a good thing for Trump’s future in golf, providing her with excellent opportunity to seek advice and learn from arguably the greatest to ever do it.

Hollywood Golf Club, known for producing one of the greatest golfers of all time, has now given us one of the most amusing tee shots ever captured on camera.

Rory McIlroy, arguably the most skilled driver in golf history, is a role model for players at his home club, Holywood Golf Club, where they strive to mimic the Masters champion’s style, even if just slightly.

A comical video of the honorary first tee shot from a recent outing by the Hollywood Social Club has gone viral, racking up nearly two million views on social media so far.

Donning a green jacket akin to the one McIlroy wore after his Masters victory at Augusta in April, Conor McGeown had the honor of hitting the day’s first tee shot before the entire group.

Colm McIlroy, Rory McIlroy's uncle, presents the green jacket at Holywood Social Club

The tradition at Holywood Social Club dictates that the opening shot of the day is always taken by the person who finished last in their previous outing, and the golfer must wear a green jacket for the occasion, reports Belfast Live.

The first hole at Holywood GC is a 336-yard par four. It’s a tough start with out-of-bounds along the left tree line and a steep bank off the right side of the green.

The website offers a useful tip from McIlroy himself, who advises: “The opening tee shot requires accuracy, by favoring the left side of the fairway, you provide yourself a full view of the green. Keep approach shot to the middle or left side of the green, avoiding green right!”

McGeown might have been thinking about that as he veered left with the driver. Way left.

Nerves could have played a significant role, as he accidentally hit the ball into a tree on his left just yards from the tee box. After a moment of bewilderment, the ball reemerged, bouncing back along the path onto the tee box and some 20 yards behind where he teed off.

His fellow club members couldn’t hold back their laughter in the hilarious video, which was promptly posted on the club’s Facebook account.

“Our golf section had another fantastic outing yesterday held at Holywood golf club, some brilliant golf played with plenty of laughs had by all. The winners were: Gary Humphries – winner ( better back 9 ), Colm McIlroy – 2nd, Billy white – 3rd. Winner of the famous green jacket Richard Round.

“But special mention has to go to Conor Mcgeown who undoubtedly played the best trick shot anyone will ever see, watch for yourselves in the video,” said the post.

Their video has now been viewed 750,000 times on Facebook. In addition, the popular NUCLR GOLF account on Twitter/X shared the video with the caption – Rough start to the boys trip.

Charlie Woods’ hopes of making the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team took a big hit after he faltered in the final round of the Junior PGA Championship, finishing tied for ninth and missing out on automatic qualification.

The 16-year-old was hoping to win the first big title of his junior career this week, as many of the top young golfers competed at Purdue University. He needed to finish first or second in Indiana to earn a place in next month’s Junior Ryder Cup at Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black, but his three-day charge ended in disappointment as his late-round struggles cost him a place on Team USA.

Woods Misses Out On Automatic Ryder Cup Qualification

Woods entered the final round in a strong position after posting impressive back-to-back rounds of 5-under 66, surging into a tie for second place at 12-under overall. The 16-year-old started the final day in second, seven shots behind overnight leader Lunden Esterline, and was in a good position to secure one of the two automatic spots on Team USA for the Junior Ryder Cup. However, he found himself 10 shots behind after eighteen holes.

The son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods grabbed national attention after making nine birdies in the third round at the Kampen Course at Purdue University in Indiana. But Woods couldn’t hold his ground on the final day, as he opened with a bogey and struggled to regain momentum. A double bogey later in the round sealed his fate as he shot a 3-over-par 74 and fell down the leaderboard. His 72-hole total of 9-under left him tied for ninth, four strokes behind the two players who locked up the final Ryder Cup spots.

Giuseppe Puebla and Tyler Mawhinney both finished at 13-under to earn automatic qualification, and Lunden Esterline won the tournament with a dominant 19-under-par finish, having already qualified through the points list.

Woods Faces Fight To Make Ryder Cup Team

With only one captain’s pick remaining for the boys’ team, Charlie is in danger of missing out on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. He currently ranks 20th in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) standings, and this may not be high enough to earn him a final selection. The AJGA rankings play a key role in determining the team, along with performances in top tournaments like the Junior PGA.

The 2025 Junior Ryder Cup will take place from September 23 to 25 in New York, with matches held at Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black. The event, modeled after the main Ryder Cup, features the top boys and girls from the U.S. and Europe competing in a team format. Although Woods came close to earning automatic qualification, he now faces a fight to make the Ryder Cup team, as he is unlikely to be selected for the captain’s pick.

Unfortunately, Tiger Woods’ Achilles injury means that golf fans will probably not get to see him play at all this year.

However, Tiger’s son, Charlie, continues to make waves in the game; he’s playing in the Junior PGA Championship this week.

Charlie will always face the expectations of living up to his last name, but the 16-year-old is doing well so far.

JUST IN: Tiger Woods has strict money rule for son Charlie, 16, to get share of his $1.3 BILLION fortune

His latest round at the Junior PGA Championship received plenty of attention on social media for all the right reasons.

Charlie Woods’ opening round of 70 (-1) at the Junior PGA Championship left him with work to do to make the cut at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

Well, he accepted the challenge and produced an excellent six-under-par 66 to climb into contention with one round to play.

If it were not for 36-hole leader Lunden Esterline’s ridiculous second-round 62, he would only be two shots back.

Instead, Charlie finds himself seven shots behind Esterline, but whatever happens, he has already won over a lot of golf fans.

“Dude is gonna be fun to watch if he decides to take the leap,” one tweeted. “Chip off the old block. He knows what moving day means,” posted another.

A fan said, “Good for him! Can’t be easy carrying around that last name and DNA. I hope he grows into his own game.”

“He’s going to be a monster,” someone else commented, as another predicted him to win a major in the foreseeable future: “This guy is gonna win a major before he’s 22 guaranteed.”

“Kid can play some damn golf!!! -7 on any course is some good f—— golf,” added an excited X user.

Meanwhile, one oddly pointed out that he’s “already better at golf than Bronny [James] is at basketball.”

Tiger and Charlie Woods unlikely to play PNC Championship

Between the Tour Championship in August and the new PGA Tour season in January, there is often not much for golf fans to look forward to.

One of the highlights is the PNC Championship in December, a 36-hole scramble competition where fathers and sons compete together.

Tiger and Charlie Woods made their PNC Championship debut in 2020 and have returned every year since.

The pair finished second to John Daly and John Daly II in 2021 and were runners-up again last season after losing a playoff to Bernhard and Jason Langer.

But, with Tiger still rehabilitating from his Achilles injury, it seems highly unlikely they will play the event for a sixth time this winter.

Tiger Woods has put a strict rule in place for his 16-year-old son Charlie before he can get a share of his astronomical fortune.

The 15-time major winner is widely considered to be one of the greatest golfers of all time, if not the GOAT.

He made the majority of his money through prize money and major sponsorship deals, including one of the most famous athlete partnerships with Nike, which lasted 27 years.

In 2022, he became the second active athlete ever following LeBron James to become a billionaire.

Now, Forbes estimate he has a net worth of $1.3bn (£980m).

His daughter Sam and son Charlie are set to inherit a chunk of that wealth, but there are conditions in place for them to receive money in the coming years.

Charlie, who is a promising golfer himself, already has a net worth of $25m (£18m), according to Sportskeeda.

But that fortune is likely to grow as he gets older and receives access to more of Woods’ money.

The Mirror report that both Charlie and his sister both have trusts in their name worth $20m (£14.8m). Meanwhile, Charlie has also been given two luxury properties in Florida and California.

However, will not be able to access these assets until he turns 21.

As the son of the legendary Woods and an emerging golfer, Charlie will likely benefit from sponsorships in the future.

He is already eligible for a Name, Image and Likeness deal, which are given in college to allow student-athletes to profit through their personal brand.

However, Charlie has not yet signed any such deal.

In 2023, there were rumours that he had signed a deal with Greyson Clothiers, but nothing was ever confirmed by Woods or Greyson.

Can Charlie Woods follow in Tiger’s footsteps?

Charlie is still at the start of his golfing journey, but there’s interest in how much he can achieve.

He has impressed at the ongoing Junior PGA Championships against some of golf’s best young talents.

Charlie is seven-under after two rounds, sitting six shots behind the leader Lunden Esterline.

He caught the attention with some great shots, sinking nine birdies in the first days.

It is a welcome boost for the youngster following a difficult display at the recent US Junior Amateur Championships.

After a torrid opening day in which he finished 11 over par, he was unable to claw it back on the second – where he finished 3-over par.

This meant he missed the cut by 10 shots and was sent home.

It is still still early days in Charlie’s career, but comparisons and intrigue are inevitable – especially when his father Tiger won his first major at just 21.

LIV Golf heads back to where it all began this week, as its annual event in the United Kingdom takes place at JCB Golf and Country Club in Rochester, England.

The Saudi-backed league’s inaugural event took place in England back in 2022, as Centurion Club in Hemel Hempstead welcomed some of golf’s biggest names. Since LIV launched three years ago, it’s persuaded the likes of Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, and Brooks Koepka to sign up.

Yet one player who refused to join LIV was Tiger Woods. The golf icon was approached by Greg Norman, who was LIV’s CEO back in 2022, about joining the breakaway series.

Tiger Woods Greg Norman

Norman recognized Woods’ reputation as the most popular golfer on the planet. Woods, a 15-time major champion, has won a staggering 82 PGA Tour titles during his career, with only Sam Snead achieving as many victories on North America’s premier circuit.

Woods has also won 15 major titles, with only Jack Nicklaus clinching more (18). Yet it’s the swashbuckling and fearless way that Woods plays the game that makes him such a popular figure in golf; the veteran never knows when he’s beaten.

Woods inspired a generation with his greatness, becoming Rory McIlroy’s childhood hero, so it’s no surprise that Norman wanted him at LIV. Norman, a two-time major winner himself, revealed his offer to Woods when LIV launched three years ago.

“Mind-blowingly enormous,” Norman said about the size of his offer to Woods. “We’re talking about high nine digits.”

Yet Woods had no interest in joining LIV and following in Mickelson’s footsteps. For years, Woods and Mickelson were the two dominant forces in the game, boasting the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking, respectively.

“He has his opinion on where he sees the game of golf going,” said Woods when asked about joining Mickelson at LIV.

“I have my viewpoint, how I see the game of golf. I’ve supported the Tour, and my foundation has run events on the Tour for a number of years. I just think that what Jack (Nicklaus) and Arnold (Palmer) have done in starting the Tour, breaking away from the PGA of America, and creating our tour in 1968… I just think there’s a legacy to that.

“I’ve been playing out here for a couple of decades, and I think there’s a legacy to it. I still think that the Tour has so much to offer, so much opportunity.

“I understand different viewpoints, but I believe in legacies. I believe in major championships. I believe in big events, comparisons to historical figures of the past. There’s plenty of money out here. The Tour is growing.

“But it’s just like any other sport. It’s like tennis. You have to go out there and earn it. You’ve got to go out there and play for it. We have opportunity to go ahead and do it. It’s just not guaranteed up front.”

Woods has proven his loyalty to the PGA Tour since LIV’s launch by joining the PGA Tour’s Policy Board in 2023 and playing a direct role in talks over a merger between the tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the financial backers of LIV.

As it stands, a merger is yet to be finalized. But if it’s completed, it’s expected to end the civil war that’s raged in men’s professional golf since LIV’s launch in 2022.

Twenty-eight years. Honestly, who keeps track of stuff like that?

Well, apparently golf statisticians do, and they’ve just witnessed something pretty remarkable. Justin Leonard has actually climbed ahead of Tiger Woods in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time since 1997. Talk about timing.

Doug Ferguson’s viral social media post captured the moment perfectly. “Don’t know if this is an OWGR record, but Justin Leonard moved up 3,253 spots with his T59 at Royal Portrush. Now at No. 1,436 … and he’s ranked ahead of Tiger for the first time since the start of 1997,” the veteran golf writer noted. Meanwhile, Tiger sits at a career-low 1,551st position, making Ferguson’s observation all the more striking.

The 53-year-old Leonard achieved something special at Royal Portrush. He made his first major championship cut since 2014, finishing tied for 59th at 2-over par. His week started brilliantly with a 1-under 70, featuring three front-nine birdies that briefly placed him in the top 20.

Friday brought challenges as Leonard struggled to a 3-over front nine. Nevertheless, he recovered with crucial birdies on the 11th and 17th holes. That clutch 17th-hole birdie proved decisive, helping him make the cut by exactly one shot.

Leonard’s weekend rounds of 70-73 showcased his veteran savvy. Despite averaging just 268 yards off the tee – dead last in the field and 30 yards below the tournament average – he compensated brilliantly. His strategic ground game and course management demonstrated why experience matters.

“To come over at my experience — and age — and make the cut is pretty special,” Leonard reflected afterward. He acknowledged the unique challenges of links golf, noting how “sometimes you can almost throw the yardage book out the window.”

The performance earned Leonard $41,550 and triggered his massive OWGR leap. His jump from 4,689th to 1,436th represents one of the largest single-tournament improvements in recent memory. More significantly, it placed him ahead of Tiger for the first time since their early professional careers. Ironically, the two golf legends have maintained a friendly family rivalry through the PNC Championship, where Leonard’s son, Luke, competes alongside Tiger’s son, Charlie, as teammates at the Benjamin School.

But this current moment feels worlds away from where their professional relationship began nearly three decades ago.

Justin Leonard’s Journey: From 1997 Glory to Unexpected Second Acts

Leonard’s current resurgence contrasts sharply with his career pinnacle 28 years ago. Back then, he captured the 1997 Open Championship at Royal Troon in stunning fashion. Trailing by five shots entering the final round, Leonard fired a magnificent 6-under 65 to claim victory.

That Sunday performance featured eight birdies, including six on the front nine alone. Leonard defeated Darren Clarke and Jesper Parnevik by three strokes, establishing himself as a major champion. Tiger, meanwhile, struggled during that 1997 Royal Troon appearance, finishing T24 after experiencing the demanding Scottish links for the first time as a professional.

The trajectory reversal tells golf’s unpredictable story perfectly. Leonard transitioned from PGA Tour regular to Golf Channel analyst, then found new life on the Champions Tour. He won his first senior event at February’s Chubb Classic, proving competitive fire still burns bright.

Charlie Woods’ attempt at a bounce-back in the US Junior Amateur Championship came up short as the son of golf icon Tiger Woods missed the cut at the tournament.

Playing at Trinity Forest Golf Club and Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas, Charlie had a rough first day at the tournament but hoped to bounce back in the second round.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen as Charlie’s 11-over first round and 3-over second round led to him missing the cut by a massive 12-stroke margin.

With his father, Tiger Woods, watching on, Charlie carded an 11-over first round on Monday

JUST IN: The real reason(s) Tiger Woods WON’T be marrying Vanessa Trump any time soon

With Tiger watching on, Charlie struggled massively at Brook Hollow on Monday – leading to that 11-over round.

On Tuesday, at Trinity Forest, Charlie seemed to handle the course much better.

He played the first nine in an even-par 36 and had the chance to finish under par after the back nine.

However, he bogeyed the 17th hole and then double-bogeyed the final hole to arrive at his 3-over 74.

It means that Charlie will not be able to match the result that his father accomplished back in 1991 – when Tiger became the youngest US Junior Amateur champion at the time. Tiger also won the Junior Amateur in 1992 and 1993.

Charlie played in the tournament last year and suffered a similar fate – carding rounds of 82 and 80 at Oakland Hills in 2024.

His inclusion in the tournament this year came via a playoff at a qualifying site in Coral Springs, Florida.

Notable winners of the US Junior Amateur include major winners Johnny Miller, David Duval, Brian Harman, Jordan Spieth (twice) and Scottie Scheffler.

Other winners include Min Woo Lee, Will Zalatoris, and Nick Dunlap.

There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Tiger Woods’ relationship with Vanessa Trump and the rumor that they are going to get engaged soon. Now, insiders close to the professional golfer are putting the brakes on that tea.

The source told the Daily Mail that there’s a solid reason for both Woods and Vanessa to put the marriage talk on ice. “Cynically, why should she get married? There’s no point of it, and it would just complicate her alimony from Donald [Trump Jr.],” the insider claimed. “And Tiger, of course, paid out a lot in his divorce from Elin [Nordegren], and I don’t think he’s particularly excited to do that again.”

Vanessa shares five children with Donald Jr.: Kai, 18, Donald III, 16, Tristan, 13, Spencer, 12, and Chloe, 11. Her settlement with Donald Trump’s eldest son is unknown, but Celebrity Net Worth estimates her fortune to be in the $75 million neighborhood.

Woods, who shares daughter Sam, 18, and son Charlie, 16, with Nordegren, paid out a reported tidy sum of $100 million in their 2010 divorce. “If you know Tiger, you know that he’s not the type to just get married at the drop of a hat,” added the source. “He has been with women for years and not done that. I think it would take a lot to get him to be a groom again.”

Still, the rumors have been rampant that Vanessa and Woods are fast-tracking their romance. On July 4, Page Six noted that Vanessa’s pals were sharing that the dynamic duo was “wedding bells serious” in their relationship. There is no engagement news to share so far, but the mom of five is reportedly head over heels for the golf legend.

“She’s so happy! She’s finally found happiness. She’s found happiness for the first time in her life,” they gushed.

Woods and Vanessa prefer their privacy and have bonded over their children’s love of golf — Woods’ son Charlie is following in his father’s footsteps, and her daughter Kai is committed to the University of Miami to play golf in the fall of 2026.

Neither of them has made any comment about their blossoming love, but Woods did post an uncharacteristically personal note on his Instagram page on March 23.

“Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side,” he wrote in the caption alongside two loving snapshots with Vanessa. “We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time, we would appreciate privacy to all those close to our hearts.”

Rory McIlroy has often expressed gratitude to his wife for her support during the ups and downs of his golf career.

After a disappointing Open Championship in 2022, the Northern Irishman shared how he sat with a bottle of wine and vented to Erica Stoll, appreciating her for just “sitting there and listening to it” as he lamented his missed chances.

This week presents another opportunity for McIlroy with The Open being held in his home country at Royal Portrush. He’s among many contenders, including defending champion Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, and good pal Shane Lowry, but the 36-year-old might channel his frustration from three years prior to fuel his pursuit of triumph.

JUST IN: Ahead of the Open, Tiger Woods delivers blunt ‘just deal with it’ message

In April, McIlroy etched his name into the history books at the Masters by sinking a playoff putt against Justin Rose, becoming the sixth golfer—and the first European—to achieve the career Grand Slam in golf.

He joined the ranks of legends like Tiger Woods, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus, having secured all four major titles, with his most recent significant victory before that being over a decade ago in 2014.

That year, McIlroy clinched both the PGA Championship and The Open, yet it wasn’t until 2025 that he topped the leaderboard at another major.

McIlroy has faced his fair share of ups and downs on the course, with setbacks often igniting a golfer’s drive for triumph.

The sting of his near-miss at the 2022 Open Championship might just be the spark he needs to conquer Royal Portrush, and the unwavering support from his wife could prove to be an additional boost.

In a heartfelt chat with the Irish Independent back in 2022, McIlroy opened up about how he leaned on his wife after falling short by a mere two strokes, finishing 18-under-par while Cameron Smith clinched the title at 20-under. Post-tournament, McIlroy found solace in his hotel room, pouring out his frustrations to his wife.

The reigning Masters champ recounted: “I’m sure there was a bit of, ‘I don’t feel like I did that much wrong.’ Because at that point you start to think about things, ‘I could have got it up-and-down on 3. I should have made a birdie on 9. I should have made a birdie on 12.’

“You know, all the s— Erica just doesn’t want to hear. But I give her credit for sitting there and listening to it. I’m sure we tried to watch something on TV to get away from it.”

He further reflected: “It’s our life and how we live, but most of our conversations don’t revolve around golf, or what I want to win, but this was different.

“And it’s amazing because you have the first major of the year, and the last major of the year, with basically the same outcome – second at the Masters, third at the Open – and two completely different reactions.

“And yeah, I mean, what can you say to someone in that position, you know? Erica didn’t need to say anything, she just needed to [be there].”

McIlroy is setting his sights on a different ending for this year’s Open Championship, aiming to hoist the Claret Jug triumphantly alongside his wife Erica and daughter Poppy, rather than revisiting past near-misses.
