Jake Paul vs. Canelo Alvarez: 3 Reasons Why This $200M Mega-Fight Will Happen

The Problem Child Eyes a 2027 Mega-Fight

Following the announcement last Tuesday, Jake Paul is officially targeting a return to the boxing ring in late 2026 or early 2027.

Paul is currently recovering from a second surgery on a broken jaw sustained during his brutal knockout loss to Anthony Joshua in December 2025.

While names like Francis Ngannou, Nate Diaz, and KSI have been floated, only one opponent makes sense for Paul’s legacy: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

With Canelo coming off an elbow surgery and a historic loss to the now-retired Terence Crawford, the stars are beginning to align for a crossover spectacle.

3 Reasons Why This $200M Mega-Fight Will Happen

Jake Paul Would Hold a Massive Size and Strength Advantage

Making the Leap to the 200-Pound Cruiserweight Limit

The fight would likely be contested at 200 pounds, a weight class Canelo Alvarez has never competed in during his legendary career.

Jake Paul plans to return at Cruiserweight, moving down from Heavyweight to maximize his natural frame and power.

Canelo has never fought above 175 pounds, meaning Paul would enter the ring with a significant physical edge in mass and reach.

While the Mexican legend would remain a heavy betting favorite, Paul’s path to victory relies on utilizing every possible physical advantage against a superior technician.

Canelo vs. Paul is Boxing’s Biggest Potential Payday

A Financial Blockbuster Worth Hundreds of Millions

From a business standpoint, Canelo vs. Paul is the single most lucrative matchup available in the sport today. Industry experts project that both fighters could secure a guaranteed purse of at least $100 million each.

Depending on Pay-Per-View (PPV) buys and international streaming rights, some estimates suggest the total payout could climb to $150 million or $200 million per athlete. For Canelo, who is in the twilight of his career, this represents a “low-risk, high-reward” financial opportunity that eclipses any traditional title defense.

Canelo Is Running Out of High-Profile Opponents

The Post-Terence Crawford Landscape in Saudi Arabia

Canelo Alvarez is scheduled to return to the ring on September 12, 2026, in Saudi Arabia for a “Mexico Against the World” event. Since Terence Crawford retired in December 2025, the rematch that fans craved is no longer an option.

Current top contenders like Christian Mbilli, Hamzah Sheeraz, and Diego Pacheco pose a great technical threat but lack the mainstream “box office” appeal of a global celebrity.

Once Canelo finishes his September commitment, the path is clear for a legacy-defining (and wallet-padding) bout against The Problem Child.

The Stars Align for an Early 2027 Showdown

Matching the Recovery Timelines for Both Stars

Jake Paul needs the remainder of 2026 to fully heal from his double jaw fracture and resume high-intensity sparring. Canelo will need a recovery window following his scheduled September 2026 bout to recharge and begin a new training camp.

By early 2027, both fighters will be physically ready and contractually available for the first time in years.

As Nevin Barich of The Sporting Tribune notes, this isn’t a fight for this year—but for next year, the logic is undeniable.

Terence Crawford Risks Jake Paul Lawsuit as He Calls Mike Tyson Fight Scripted on Joe Rogan Experience

Terence Crawford is retired. He’s already enjoying life as a boxing elder, making appearances at events and mentoring proteges like Shakur Stevenson.

So why step back into the spotlight now with comments that could invite legal action? In the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, Crawford raised fresh questions about Jake Paul’s fight against Mike Tyson, suggesting it may have been a “scripted” affair. That’s not a small accusation. Paul and the team at Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) have already issued a warning – anyone making false allegations about his fights could be taken to court. Yet, that didn’t seem to have stopped the former undisputed super middleweight champion from saying what he thought of the bout.

Terence Crawford calls Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul 'scripted': 'It was taking all that he could not to hit him' | MMA Fighting

“I don’t know. I think it was scripted,” Crawford told Joe Rogan. “I’ve never seen Tyson biting his gloves like that. It was taking all he could to, like not hit him. It’s heartbreaking seeing an icon go out like that.

“He shouldn’t have been in there at all. I think there’s other ways. I think, with all his connections and things like that, I think people could have put him in the right position to make some money.”

Terence Crawford made the remark after Joe Rogan brought up the now-confirmed rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. The bout, reportedly scheduled for September on Netflix, will follow exhibition appearances from both men in the months prior. Mayweather against Mike Tyson and Pacquiao against former champion turned politician Ruslan Provodnikov. That context reopened the discussion about Tyson’s recent outing.

Rogan noted that Tyson would be much bigger than Mayweather. Crawford responded that even so, Tyson would still struggle to land a punch on the 50-0 icon. He added that Tyson likely wouldn’t be able to land cleanly on Mayweather, especially considering how his last fight against Jake Paul unfolded.

And that fight remains the source of the controversy. To Rogan and perhaps many others, Tyson-Paul resembled a sparring session. The former heavyweight champion was seen biting his gloves during the eight-round special rules bout that headlined the Netflix boxing event at AT&T Stadium on November 15, 2024, in front of millions worldwide.

Even before the opening bell, the matchup was under scrutiny. Originally scheduled for July, it was postponed after Tyson experienced a mid-flight health scare in late May. He stepped into the ring at age 58, 19 years after his last professional appearance. Facing an opponent 30 years younger had already sparked widespread concerns about his safety and health.

Then things got more complicated. Jake Paul later said he took it easy on Tyson. The remark intensified criticism and fueled speculation about the legitimacy of the contest.

That growing scrutiny prompted Paul and his team to release a formal statement. While criticism is part of the sport, they said, baseless allegations would be met with stern legal action.

Jake Paul goes to war over rigging allegations

“Following the wide circulation of incorrect and baseless claims that undermine the integrity of the Paul vs. Tyson event, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) would like to set the record straight regarding the contractual agreements and the nature of the fight,” the official statement read. “Trash talk and speculation are common in sports, and athletes and promoters need to tolerate nonsensical commentary, jokes, and opinions. But suggesting anything other than full effort from these fighters is not only naïve but also an insult to the work they put into their craft and to the sport itself.”

That warning wasn’t issued lightly.

With the controversy still lingering and Mike Tyson preparing for an exhibition against Floyd Mayweather, Crawford may have felt comfortable sharing his unfiltered opinion. Still, Paul’s camp has shown it is willing to escalate matters. Reports indicate that legal pressure previously prompted a few high-profile figures to walk back earlier claims questioning his fights.

It’s unlikely Paul would pursue legal action against a stalwart like Terence Crawford. But the threat is real.

After his latest fight against Anthony Joshua, the YouTuber-turned-boxer appears to have shifted his image. The phase of facing retired or semi-retired MMA fighters and boxers seems to be behind him. Even so, reports suggest he may have filed a lawsuit against former champion Deontay Wilder, who publicly questioned whether the AJ fight had been “scripted.”

Anthony Joshua sends heartfelt private messages to Jake Paul after deadly Nigeria car crash days after Netflix fight

Anthony Joshua did not just walk away from his fight with Jake Paul carrying another win. Just days later, his life changed in a way no boxing match ever could. Only ten days after knocking out Jake Paul in their Netflix fight in Miami, Joshua was involved in a serious car crash in Nigeria that took the lives of two people very close to him.
The crash happened on December 29 while Joshua was traveling with lifelong friends Kevin Latif “Latz” Ayodele and Sina Ghami, along with a driver. Joshua survived, but both Ayodele and Ghami lost their lives. The former heavyweight world champion has since been grieving deeply and has stayed mostly quiet, sharing only short tributes online.

Even in that painful time, Joshua noticed a gesture that meant a lot to him. Jake Paul’s promotion company honored his late friends during a boxing event in Puerto Rico on January 3. Their names were printed on the ring canvas. That moment led to private messages between Joshua and Paul that showed respect beyond the ring.

Anthony Joshua appreciates Jake Paul and Most Valuable Promotions for honoring his late friends

The tribute was done by Most Valuable Promotions, the company founded by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian. After seeing the gesture, Joshua personally reached out to Paul and MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian.

Speaking to SunSport, Bidarian shared how the exchange went. He said, “They had some tremendous exchanges. Anthony Joshua was a gentleman. He sent us a few very nice messages given we took some efforts around our January 3 card to recognize Sina and Latz. There is a deep respect there for each other as human beings.”

Joshua, 36, continues to honor his late friends through social media posts and short videos as he mourns their loss. His promoter Eddie Hearn has said Joshua is still grieving but believes he will keep fighting with their memory in his heart.

Meanwhile, Jake Paul, 29, is currently under medical suspension following the fight, where Joshua stopped him in six rounds and left him with a broken jaw. Bidarian said Paul can return to sparring in June and may fight again by August.

Bidarian also shared Paul’s mindset after facing Joshua. He said, “Jake studied AJ and felt he could make him miss. He landed some nice shots, but his cardio gave out. That is the reality of that fight.” He added that Paul has been honest about opponents he does not want to face, naming David Benavidez, but said Paul is confident against most others.

Bidarian was in London to announce a new deal between MVP and Sky Sports, which marks the broadcaster’s return to boxing. The upcoming April 5 event at Kensington Olympia will be headlined by Caroline Dubois and Terri Harper.

Mike Tyson claims to have ‘learned’ from the mistakes he made ahead of his last outing against Jake Paul, and promises to ‘be better’ in his expected exhibition match with Floyd Mayweather.

The 59-year-old lost a unanimous decision to Paul in November 2024, albeit in a contest that involved 14oz gloves and a limited duration of eight, two-minute rounds.

But still, with their matchup being sanctioned as a professional bout by the Texas Combative Sports Program, ‘Iron Mike’ was ultimately handed a seventh loss on his record.

Prior to their encounter, many had expressed concern over Tyson’s deteriorating health, particularly after he suffered an ulcer flare-up earlier that year.

The former world heavyweight champion later admitted that he had almost lost his life, but nonetheless entered his postponed contest with Paul and produced a largely pedestrian performance.

Since then, Tyson has been linked with an exhibition match against Mayweather, 48, with reports suggesting that their event could be staged in Africa this coming March.

But now, as he gears up to take on ‘TBE’, the Brooklyn heavyweight says he needs to lower the intensity of his training.

In an interview with Hard Rock Bet, Tyson says that the demanding nature of his preparation for Paul undoubtedly had a negative impact on his overall performance.

“I feel good right now. This is the best I’ve felt. I can’t wait to start getting in the ring. I learned from my last fight.

“I left a lot of my fight in the gym. I worked too hard. I was too intense. I was too extreme. I need to relax more. That’s what I always believe. I need to relax more … I’m getting more and more confident, and I believe I’ll be better in the next fight coming up.”

Before facing Paul, Tyson’s last professional outing came in 2005, when he suffered a sixth-round stoppage defeat to Kevin McBride.

Mayweather, meanwhile, has not fought professionally since his 10th-round finish over Conor McGregor in 2017, for which he hit the scales at just under 150lbs.

Jake Paul’s mansion was raided by the FBI as a team of SWAT officers in armoured vehicles descended upon his pad.

Paul, who made his boxing debut in 2020, has emerged as one of the biggest names in the sport following his high-profile fights, including bouts against UFC legends Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz.

Not to mention Mike Tyson and Anthony Joshua, who stopped ‘The Problem Child’ in the sixth round of their money-spinning clash last month.

Paul has earned some eye-watering purses in his career, having bagged a huge payout from his Netflix showdown against Joshua.

He’s made a series of extravagant purchases in the process, including his $8 million mansion in California.

In 2020, his luxury home was the subject of an FBI investigation as a team of SWAT officers in armoured vehicles raided the property while searching for evidence that he was linked to the looting of a Scottsdale mall.

Paul and graffiti artist friend Arman Izadi were arrested at Scottsdale Fashion Square mall and charged with trespassing and unlawful assembly after filming a mob ransacking the property.

Some of the rioters had claimed that they were protesting the murder of George Floyd, who was killed by a police officer.

Paul and Izadi immediately denied any wrongdoing, but police said they were sent ‘hundreds of tips’ claiming the YouTuber-turned-boxer was a participant in the riot.

That prompted the FBI to carry out their raid of the 29-year-old’s property, with news helicopters capturing the federal officers walking out of his mansion with several rifles they confiscated during the search.

The charges against Paul and Izadi were ultimately dropped and no arrests were made.

But it lives long in the memory of Paul’s mum, Pam Stepnick, who opened up on the incident in her new book, ‘F**k the Pauls”.

An excerpt of it read: “My ears rang with the news when Ted told me the FBI was raiding Jake’s home.

“I ran out of my dermatologist appointment and sank to the floor in the building’s stairwell. My heart was racing.

“After the family text bombardment during Jake’s last controversy (the Covid party), I decided to get ahead of their good intentions.

“This time, I texted them with the news about Jake, telling them not to freak out when they saw the headlines.

“FBI spokesperson Jill McCabe said the FBI was investigating allegations of criminal acts surrounding the incident at Scottsdale Fashion Square in May 2020.

“I knew my son had not done anything that merited the freaking FBI’s attention, much less the whole country’s attention.

“The story was picked up in national publications. I was unraveling.

“I had always been the rock and the glue that holds our family together, but the FBI?

“This was bigger than anything we had ever experienced up until this point in our family’s wild history.

“At the time of the raid, Jake was training for his next boxing match.

“The FBI searched Jake’s home, looking for God knows what. As I watched helicopters circle around his mansion, I thought, ‘What the hell is happening?’

“FBI agents carried guns out of the Calabasas home along with video equipment, cell phones, cameras, and laptops. In the days following the raid, my family stared into the abyss, devastated, afraid, and deeply humbled.

“When I saw video footage of the FBI confiscating Team 10 cameras (the social media label Jake had founded) and laptops on the news over and over and over again, I was disgusted. In my heart, I knew there were no bad intentions on Jake’s part.

“I watched the video while shaking my head. This investigation will go nowhere.

“There’s nothing to find. And I was right. The charges were dropped. I was frustrated. It felt like another media grab.

“At a time when all eyes were on the internet, Jake’s name meant more clicks.

“But this series of events caused Jake to take stock of his life. Finally, he had to course correct.”

Jake Paul Trolled After Private Jet Dig at Floyd Mayweather Resurfaces

Jake Paul just couldn’t help himself. The YouTube-turned-boxer spotted Floyd Mayweather’s private jet and saw an opportunity too good to pass up. In a video that’s now blowing up across social media, Paul mocks the boxing legend’s six-window aircraft before strutting toward his own 14-window jet. The swagger was unmistakable. The pettiness was off the charts.

The video says it all. Paul walks up to Mayweather’s jet with a camera rolling. “Look at this s***… only got six windows!” he shouts, pointing dismissively at the aircraft. Then comes the theatrics. He skips toward his own plane like a kid showing off a new toy. “My plane got 14 windows! Fourteen!” The emphasis drips with smugness. He repeats it, laughing, making sure everyone gets the point. It’s petty. It’s childish. And it’s classic Jake Paul.

But here’s the thing, the internet wasn’t having it. Instead of applauding Paul’s flex, fans turned the mockery right back at him. The backlash came swift and brutal. From drawing comparisons to Anthony Joshua’s humility to making cruel jokes about Paul’s latest defeat, the response was so loud that it could not be heard any other way: this flex was nowhere near Jake’s expectations.

The video is not a recent one; it was first seen in September 2025. Jake Paul had placed his $40 million jet beside Floyd Mayweather’s at the airport. This was a planned event with the teasing done very smartly. Paul, who has a boxing record of 12-2, enjoyed poking Mayweather’s 50-0 undefeated legacy. The re-posted clip has already gathered more than 2 million views. The spectators are really interested in it. Even in 2026, the animosity still attracts people.

Fans destroy Jake Paul after Floyd Mayweather jet mockery

The internet had a field day with this one. Fans didn’t hold back. Some clowned Paul for the pettiness. Others questioned why two billionaires were arguing over airplane windows. The comments section turned into a roasting session. And Jake Paul was the main course.

One fan got creative with wordplay. “If Mayweather goes on holiday to Tenerife, Jake Paul goes to Elevenerife.” The joke played on Paul’s need to always go bigger, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. Another user saw through the strategy. “Stuff like this gets Floyd’s attention, I bet.” They recognized Paul’s tactic—provoke the legend, stay relevant, keep the clicks coming.

The Anthony Joshua comparisons started rolling in. “Anthony Joshua, despite being worth more than Jake, would never be caught flexing a single thing.” Fans pointed out the contrast between real class and manufactured clout. Some kept it simple and savage. “When your jet is smaller than your ego… 🛩️😎” The dig landed perfectly—Paul’s personality was always the bigger issue. And then came the knockout blow. “This is why AJ broke his jaw.” Fans connected the dots between Paul’s trash talk and his recent loss, suggesting karma had already caught up with him.

Jake Paul was trying to humiliate Floyd Mayweather. He, however, gave the internet something to talk about. The jet show-off turned out to be a big mistake as fans ridiculed him. The derision returned to him. And the moral is very obvious: if you are going to criticize a great one, you should be very sure that your house is clean. Paul’s was not. The internet took care of letting everyone know.

Jake Paul has put to bed any drug controversy after revealing he has been tested more times than both Anthony Joshua and Gervonta Davis.

The ‘Problem Child’ was set to return to the ring in November – following his win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June – against Davis. However, the exhibition showdown was scrapped after ‘Tank’ was accused of battery, false imprisonment and kidnapping by an ex-girlfriend.

Paul reserved a December date in Miami in case his dust-up with Davis failed to materialise. After issuing several call-outs, it was Joshua who obliged. Their heavyweight clash was a professionally sanctioned bout, but despite the noise surrounding the event, the showdown failed to live up to expectations.

In a rather dull and uninspiring bout, Joshua eventually knocked the YouTuber-turned-boxer out in the sixth round, having dropped his foe twice in the previous round. Since making his professional debut back in 2020, the American fighter has been accused of cutting corners for his fights. Many have slammed his bouts as ‘fixed’ or that there was insufficient drug testing involved.

Paul has also been accused of taking performance enhancing drugs, but has played down those rumours on several occasions. Ahead of last month’s heavyweight clash between Joshua and Paul, it was confirmed that the bout would be overseen by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The American also signed up for the aforementioned anti-doping body ahead of his proposed clash with ‘Tank.’

In a recent post uploaded to X – formerly known as Twitter – Paul posted a screenshot of his sample count, alongside both Joshua and Davis via the official USADA website. In total, it was revealed that there was a total sample count of 24 from the three fighters, with Paul submitting 10, Joshua handing in six, and Davis submitting 8. The social media sensation was eager to take a swipe at his critics, revealing he had been tested more times than his two rivals. “USADA, VADA, PRADA, NADA,” he captioned the post.

Addressing his critics ahead of his proposed clash with Davis, Paul said in a video uploaded to YouTube. “Don’t worry, for all of you Karens who accuse me of being on steroids as the reason for winning all of my fights, we have the strictest drug testing possible for this match. US Anti-Doping Agency. Random drug tests at any moment.”

USADA were the official anti-doping body for MMA promotion UFC between 2015 and 2024. Prior to the body’s involvement, the use of PEDs was a cause for concern in the sport. However, USADA’s strict punishments and random testing protocol ultimately paid dividends for Dana White’s organisation.

Paul’s business partner Nakisa Bidarian was adamant that – ahead of the American boxer’s fight with Joshua – both men would be heavily monitored, revealing to the Daily Mail: “We are enrolled in the highest level of USADA for this fight, just like Jake was with Tank. So Jake just continues in that programme, and Joshua enters that programme immediately.

“Jake was tested eight times by USADA during the past – whatever it was – seven weeks since we started the programme with USADA for Jake versus Tank. That’s just going to continue. Randomised testing, frequent testing. And, you know, we’re four weeks out, so it’s going to be pretty comprehensive.”

KSI Explains Rejecting $30 Million Offer to Fight Jake Paul

Forget about Gervonta Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson. In modern boxing, one of the biggest what-ifs remains KSI vs. Jake Paul. The pair have been trading words, insults, and promises of a fight for years, but their bout never became a reality. Now, KSI has revealed an interesting part of their negotiations.

The British internet star recently appeared in an interview with India’s Beer Biceps Ranveer on YouTube. As they got to chatting, KSI spilled the beans on the offers he has received over the years to face Jake Paul. However, money was not something that held KSI back from taking on ‘El Gallo.’

KSI claims to have done everything in boxing

KSI opened up about his boxing journey and motivations while speaking to Ranveer, making it clear that financial gain was never his driving force. Reflecting on his bout against Tommy Fury, the YouTuber-turned-boxer revealed the truth. “My fight with Tommy Fury, all the money I made, I gave it to my trainers,” KSI said when asked whether boxing had benefited him financially.

He further emphasized that money was never the reason he stepped into the ring, despite receiving massive offers to face Jake Paul. “I’ve been offered 20 million to fight Jake Paul, 30 million to fight Jake Paul.” KSI went on to shut down any possibility of returning to boxing for financial incentives alone.

“These guys can’t give me any amount of money to fight this guy. When it comes to boxing, I’m done,” he stated. According to KSI, his primary objective was always to build Misfits Boxing and eventually secure a showdown with Jake Paul. “[I] built Misfits, tried to fight Jake Paul time and time and time again. It’s just excuse after excuse after excuse.”

He also claimed that he was ready to fight when Jake Paul took on Tommy Fury and Nate Diaz, but the bout never materialized due to Paul’s reluctance. “At that point, I had to fight Tommy Fury. I was like, you know what? I tried to build up again to then try and fight Jake again. And then he was just getting heavier and heavier, trying to move the goalposts when it comes to weight,” KSI said during the interview.

Ultimately, the repeated setbacks pushed KSI to walk away from the idea of fighting Jake Paul altogether. As things stand, the long-anticipated clash remains out of reach. Meanwhile, Logan Paul has since shed light on why his brother has no interest in facing KSI.

Logan Paul believes weight is stopping Jake Paul vs. KSI

Speaking on his Impaulsive podcast a while back, Logan admitted he has been pushing hard to make the fight happen. But he claimed the gap in weight classes has stalled negotiations. “I’m working on it. I’m trying so hard,” Logan said. “There’s a weight problem at the moment. Jake’s technically the fat guy. [KSI] fights lighter. It’s a disaster.”

Logan suggested that Jake no longer views the matchup as necessary. “[Jake] genuinely believes that he’s kind of above the influencer boxing, and he classifies KSI still as an influencer boxer,” he explained. “He won’t go down to a weight where he’s genuinely uncomfortable just to satisfy a YouTube audience,” Logan said, adding, “He’s big now. He’s bigger. He’s a thick f—king tattooed beast.”

From the looks of things, Jake Paul vs. KSI is never going to happen, even though there’s plenty of money to be made.

Jake Paul Handed Career Blow Two Weeks After Anthony Joshua Defeat

Jake Paul’s aspirations of becoming a world champion at cruiserweight have been dented, two weeks on from his loss to Anthony Joshua.

“The Problem Child” suffered a sixth-round knockout defeat to Joshua in their heavyweight clash on December 19 but Paul, who suffered a broken jaw during the contest, remained in positive spirits as he spoke about the future.

“We’re going to heal the broken jaw, come back and fight people my weight and go for the cruiserweight world title,” he said. “I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years. I’m going to take some time off.”

Paul has had two titanium plates fitted and some teeth removed after his jaw was broken, meaning he faces at least nine months on the sideline to recover, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

On top of that, the YouTuber-turned-boxer has officially dropped out of the World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight rankings, just five months after he was inducted at No. 14 following his victory over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Paul’s defeat to Joshua was reflected in the WBA’s latest schedule update, which was released on January 1.

What are the chances that Paul gets ranked again in the WBA’s cruiserweight standings? It will be difficult to bounce back from the broken jaw, but Paul says he is not considering retirement.

Jake Paul backed to “worm his way” into world title fight after Joshua defeat

Paul’s training partner David Adeleye believes the American is only a few regional wins away from earning himself a title shot.

“I see him getting back in the ring in 2026 to prove a point,” he told talkSPORT. “At what level nobody knows? It depends on his motivation. If he stays grounded they may match him perfectly.

“I think he could end up worming his way into a world title shot if he beats people at regional level in America. If he chooses certain fights and gets ranked top ten at the cruiserweight division, it could be a voluntary defence.

“If you are a champion, and you can get a certain amount of money, why not? You would take it.”

Adeleye added: “Getting a world title fight, I’m not saying he’s going to win it, but 100 per cent I think he could box for one. Beating the champion is a different ball game though.”

Jake Paul Curse: What’s Happened to His Opponents After Fighting Him is Strange

Anthony Joshua’s involvement in a tragic car crash in Nigeria on Monday, that killed two members of his team, has continued the strange trend that those who take to the ring against Jake Paul have something bad happen to them after the fight, and in one case, even before.

Out of the 13 people the American has laced the gloves up against, eight of them have suffered some sort of misfortune since fighting him.

Jake Paul

The bad hands include three near-death experiences, falling out of the public eye entirely, a personal life falling apart, a declaration of bankruptcy, and a deportation.

Nate Robinson

Jake Paul vs Nate Robinson

The former basketball player, who became an NBA champion with the Miami Heat in 2013, was Paul’s second professional opponent, facing him in November 2020. He didn’t put up much resistance, however, as he was knocked out cold in the second round.

Since the defeat, Robinson has fallen off the face of the earth when it comes to the public eye, as nobody has heard from him in any form. Maybe he chose to keep a low profile to avoid the backlash following the knockout.

Ben Askren

Jake Paul vs Ben Askren

In the lead-up to Ben Askren’s fight with Jake Paul in April 2021, there was a lot expected of the former, based off him being an ex-UFC fighter. However, he didn’t see the second round and was stopped in 119 seconds in what was quite embarrassing given it was just Paul’s third professional bout.

If the loss wasn’t enough for him to deal with, it had clearly taken more out of him than what was apparent on the surface, as four years later, Askren then had lung failure in mid-2025 and nearly died, only surviving after a vital transplant.

Tyron Woodley

Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley 2

The former UFC welterweight champion faced The Problem Child twice and lost both times, the second of which was a flush knockout in the sixth round. The reason why he took the two fights may be explained by the fact that it’s reported that following the two defeats, Woodley declared bankruptcy.

Again, this may give reason as to why Woodley stepped into the boxing ring on the undercard of Paul vs Joshua, against Anderson Silva, which he also lost, leaving his professional boxing record at 0-3.

Tommy Fury

Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul

Fury did please many by stopping the Paul hype train by split decision in Saudi Arabia, but it was the start of his boxing career beginning to fall apart. He has only fought once since his victory over Olajide Olatunji, better known as KSI, in October 2023, that coming against Kenan Hanjalic in a unanimous decision win in May 2025. Outside his fading career in the squared circle, he has often been seen taking part in fitness challenges, like triathlons and marathons.

What also seemed to fall apart was his personal life, as his relationship with Molly-Mae Hauge took a hiatus in 2024. Though back together now, Molly-Mae has been reluctant to put the ring back on and tie the knot.

Ryan Bourland

Jake Paul fighting Ryan Bourland

Bourland was 17-2 at the time he took on Paul in March 2024, so people felt he would provide a stern challenge. That wasn’t the case at all.

Instead, like Askren, Bourland didn’t survive the first three minutes, and was dispatched in the first round. The loss was clearly too much for him as he has since quit the sport, having not fought since he lost to Paul and has now taken a routine job as a plumber.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul

Paul’s so-called “fight” with a 58-year-old Mike Tyson was controversial enough. However, it got worse when it was learned that before the fight in Arlington, Tyson was in hospital for a number of weeks due to losing half his blood because of a bleeding ulcer that required eight blood transfusions.

Maybe his age played a factor in why that happened. Perhaps the hospitalisation explained Tyson’s lacklustre performance in the unanimous decision loss in November 2024.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

The former middleweight world champion, and son of the iconic Julio Cesar Chavez Snr, barely put on a display in his June 2025 unanimous defeat to the American, further disgracing the name that his father had worked so hard to put on the map.

It then got worse for the Mexican, as soon after the fight, he was deported back to his home country. It’s become seemingly apparent as to why he didn’t want to be south of the border, as he has had an active arrest warrant there since 2023 for his involvement in being a henchman for a drug cartel.

Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua gave Paul his second professional loss, but the latter made him work for it in a bigger ring than what is standard in professional boxing. He survived the former two-time unified heavyweight champion for six rounds before having his jaw broken by a right hand.

The injuries Paul suffered could keep him out of the ring for at least nine months, but it now seems Joshua will also not be seeing any action for a while. On the last Monday of 2025, he was involved in a car crash in Nigeria that killed two members of his team, who were close friends, with AJ suffering some injuries as well. So now not only does he need to recover mentally after the death of his friends, he has to deal with the physical damage the crash caused.

If Jake Paul does decide to keep fighting, those that will be standing in the opposite corner should be on high alert and hope the world doesn’t have a bad hand to throw at them as well.
