Charlie Woods and Kai Trump experienced drastically different days on the golf course as the pair of young stars each took major steps in their respective careers.

Last week, Trump — the granddaughter of President Donald Trump — made her LPGA Tour debut at the Annika Driven by Gainbridge after being named one of three sponsor exemptions for the event. Woods, meanwhile, competed in the Florida Class 1A State Championship at Mission Resort + Club’s El Campeon course, where his father, Tiger Woods, watched on from the gallery.

The Benjamin School junior turned in a masterful performance during the two-day tournament, carding a 4-under-par 68 on Saturday — tied for the lowest individual score of the day — en route to propelling the Bucs to a five-shot victory and their second state title in three years

Much like his dad, Woods managed to stay calm and composed in the face of immense pressure.

“Charlie came up to on 14 today and he goes, ‘Coach, how are your nerves holding up?’ I could tell he was focused,” Benjamin head coach Toby Harbeck said of Woods, who tied for fourth in the individual competition at two-under overall.

“He was locked in. I think he was locked in from the start of today, and he’s got so much talent. Dad’s here. A couple of colleges are here to watch him. It’s great.”

Unfortunately for Trump, she didn’t exactly achieve similar success as Woods. The University of Miami commit placed dead-last in her first-ever LPGA Tour event, finishing at 18-over overall while failing to make the cut at Pelican Golf Club.

Though Trump — who scored an 83 on Thursday and a 75 on Friday — didn’t get the results she would’ve liked, the 18-year-old still relished the opportunity to compete at the professional level.

“What an incredible honor and opportunity to compete in my first LPGA Tour Event at @theannikalpga,” Trump wrote in a lengthy Instagram post.

“This week was an absolute dream come true. There are so many amazing people I want to thank for making it happen and for being so supportive.

“A huge thank you to the Doyle Family, @annikas59, the entire staff at the Pelican Golf Club, Dan Towriss and his team at @gainbridgelife, and Tim Erensen and his team at @teamoutlyr.

“You all made this week so special for me,” Trump continued. “It was a lifelong dream to play in a LPGA event, and this is just the start.

“I learned so much about my game and myself out there. I was so impressed by all the LPGA players I met and got to watch as well.

“I’m going to use this experience to keep growing as a person and as a golfer. Thank you all for the support!”

Vanessa Trump’s subtle Tiger Woods gesture as she supports daughter Kai at LPGA Tour debut

Kai Trump is set to make her LPGA Tour debut this weekend at The Annika, but her grandfather, the former president, won’t be there. However, her mother, Vanessa, was by her side during the tournament’s pro-am event on Wednesday, subtly acknowledging her boyfriend, Tiger Woods.

Thanks to a sponsor exemption, 18 year old Kai Trump, who is still in high school, will make her professional debut this weekend in Belleair, Florida. She’s set to start her first year at Miami in 2026 with an LPGA event already under her belt. Woods is unlikely to be in attendance, but was recently spotted at an event for TaylorMade.

Kai mentioned that her grandfather, President Trump, won’t be present for her debut as he’s busy “running the world.” But Vanessa Trump, Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife, was there with her daughter for the pro-am session, even as Caitlin Clark drew larger crowds just a few holes behind on the back nine.

Vanessa Trump, who earlier this year, didn’t have him by her side on Wednesday. However, she did give a small nod to her partner through her choice of hat while supporting her daughter, sporting a Sun Day Red-branded cap.

Trump was seen wearing a black Sun Day Red baseball cap featuring a white Sun Day Red logo and the letters “S D R” encircling it.

The cap also had a logo on the side for The Genesis Invitational, an annual event hosted by Woods at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

Woods launched Sun Day Red in early 2024 after his iconic 27-year partnership with Nike came to an end.

A partnership with TaylorMade, the name comes from his signature red shirt worn on the final day of tournaments.

Woods and Vanessa Trump’s romance became public in March, with the couple confirming their relationship on social media while requesting privacy.

Before Kai Trump’s professional debut, she revealed guidance she got from one of golf’s all-time greats, who happens to be in a relationship with her mother.

“Yeah, I mean, he is the best golfer in the entire world,” Kai Trump said. “I would say that. And even better person.

“He told me to go out there and have fun and just go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens.”

She also talked about counsel from the president before the major debut.

“My grandpa pretty much told me go out there and have fun,” Trump said. “Just don’t get nervous. Try my best not to.”

Kai Trump has named Tiger Woods as one of the biggest influences on her golf journey following her recent debut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Junior. It comes after she revealed her shared love with grandfather Donald for another sport.

The 18-year-old became the first relative of a sitting U.S. President to participate in an AJGA event this week when she lined up alongside some of the nation’s most promising young golfers at Bay Hill, in what is one of the most competitive junior golf tournaments in the country.

This year alone, Trump – who is set to represent the University of Miami in 2026 – has already featured in the 41st Nicklaus Junior Championship and the Sage Valley Junior Invitational, while she secured her biggest golfing achievement yet with a T3 finish on the Srixon Medalist Tour last month.

Unfortunately for Donald Trump’s granddaughter, she couldn’t follow it up with another impressive result at the APIJr, finishing 26th, second to last, with a score of 35 over par, but it was what she said afterwards that really caught the eye.

Speaking to the American Jr Golf Association in her post-tournament interview, the teenager was quizzed about her roots in the game and the biggest influences on her journey so far, where she namedropped a familiar face.

“I would say a lot of the pros, obviously, like looking up to them and watching them,” Trump began. “Obviously, Tiger [Woods], Rory [McIlroy]. Like watching those guys, especially at such a young age, and now I get to know them.

“It has been really cool, and that obviously kind of influenced me. But also, I’d say like my mom, I wouldn’t be playing golf without her.”

For any young aspiring golfer, Woods is always likely to be someone they look up to, and that’s no different for Trump. However, given the 49-year-old is now dating her mom, Vanessa, it holds even more significance.

Especially considering the golf icon could now be in a position to help mentor his new love interest’s daughter, alongside his own son, Charlie, who also continues to make waves in the junior age groups.

Following the death of his mother, Kultida, earlier this year, Woods was spotted breaking his cover alongside Trump as the duo turned up to the Genesis Invitational together.

The pair were seen wearing clothing from Woods’ Sun Day Red brand, with Trump sporting the company’s Luxe Lounge mid-weight quarter-zip pullover, which she paired with a white polo and black trousers.

Around the same time, the young golfer, whose willingness to walk alongside Woods suggested she approves of his relationship with her mom, had signed an endorsement deal with TaylorMade, which co-created Sun Day Red with Woods.

With Woods and Vanessa’s relationship said to be going from strength to strength, it can only be a good thing for Trump’s future in golf, providing her with excellent opportunity to seek advice and learn from arguably the greatest to ever do it.
