After the cancellation of the fight between Davis and Jake Paul, the stage is once again set for the long-awaited rematch: Roach vs Tank. But only under the right terms.

The saga between Lamont Roach Jr. and Gervonta Davis seemed to have come to an end. However, the super featherweight champion decided to speak out and revealed the conditions under which he would accept a rematch with “Tank“.

The story between Lamont Roach Jr. and Gervonta Davis has been one of the most relevant of the year in professional boxing. First there was talk of a rematch in June. Who will be Lamont Roach Jr’s next opponent?

Today, as Paul prepares to face Anthony Joshua on December 19, Roach Jr. decided to take control of his own destiny. Instead of waiting for an uncertain call, he signed to challenge Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for the interim super lightweight title on the PBC-Amazon Prime card on December 6.

Even so, the echo of a possible rematch with Davis still lingers. And Roach himself confirmed that he does not rule it out… as long as certain guarantees are met.

During an interview with Marcus Hayes for Fight Hub TV, the champion was blunt when asked if he still wants a second fight with “Tank.” Although he acknowledged that a big payday will always be attractive, he stopped short of getting carried away.

“I mean, yeah, sure… But, you know, if it comes up, there’s a lot of guarantees I have to have, and you know, just in case it doesn’t happen again…” declared Roach Jr.

His stance comes after months of delays, changes and cancellations which he says affected not only his stability, but also that of the fighters on the undercard of the Paul vs. Tank event

“That’s really unfortunate for them… I know what it’s like to be waiting for something and then it doesn’t happen,” he added.

For Roach Jr, it’s no longer just about the belt. It’s about respect.

While Davis faces personal problems and obvious professional uncertainty, Roach Jr. decided to look ahead. He made it clear with a blunt phrase:

Lamont Roach Jr. was relaxing at a spa with his mother on Thursday, August 21, when he received unexpected news — Gervonta “Tank” Davis had agreed to fight Jake Paul instead of giving him the long-awaited rematch.

That grueling 12-round showdown was arguably the toughest of Davis’ career, turning his spotless 30-0 record into 30-0-1. Now, rather than risk another blemish, Davis will return to the ring on November 14 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta — this time against a bigger but far less experienced opponent: Jake Paul.

“Fighting a YouTuber? Pretty insane,” Roach said.

Still, Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) chose his words carefully, showing a measured respect for Paul.

“The thing I like about Jake is what he’s doing for real boxers,” he said. “He’s a big advocate for women’s boxing — helping them finally get real paydays.”

While Roach doesn’t expect another payday from Davis, he insists the matter isn’t settled.

“There’s no way you can breach a contract and expect me to just sit here quietly,” he said.

Despite the disappointment, Roach remains active — training daily and giving back to his community in Washington, D.C., where he was born and raised. His outreach includes school supply drives, pop-up boxing clinics, and reading sessions for inner-city kids.

And those kids? They know exactly how he feels about Davis.

“They’re like, ‘He’s a Rudy Poop! He’s a scaredy cat!’” Roach said, laughing. “Yeah, they see what’s going on.”

Asked how he and his son are dealing with the situation, he said that they were staying ready for whatever comes their way.

“You just can’t rush into nothing. You got to see what’s out there, what’s the best path going forward. We’ve just got to be patient and make the next move one of your best … We’re staying ready for anything so if they come back and say we’ve got this, or this date available, we’re not too far. We can’t peak too much. It’s a tricky situation, it’s tough, going from one of the biggest fights in boxing to the unknown.”

Finally, Roach Sr said that he feels a rematch this year is highly unlikely.

“I mean, I don’t see it happening no time soon this year unless something dramatic happens, or there would’ve been a date out there by now. We’ll see. You never know. All [Davis’] details, what’s going on with him – it ain’t nobody’s business to know everything that’s going on in his personal life, but it did affect us so we do need to know our path. It’s tough, but we’re dealing with it.”

It has been radio silence from Davis, who has also been called out by Jake Paul and Manny Pacquiao for spectacle fights. Hall of Famer Tim Bradley believes the Baltimore puncher may have given up on the sport.He was arrested last month.
