Oleksandr Usyk

Both parties have been given 30 days to agree upon terms before the WBO proceeds with a purse bid.

Usyk unified the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO titles last month by knocking out Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.

But he could be stripped of the latter if he chooses not to make a defence against Parker.

Here's how their stats compare

The Kiwi’s manager Higgins believes this could be a real possibility as Usyk is still yet to get in contact with the relevant parties over a week after the issuance of the WBO’s letter.

Providing an update on Usyk vs Parker to Sky Sports, Higgins said: “Last time I spoke to Frank Warren [who promotes Parker in the UK], there had been no engagement.

“That is what I was told, a couple of days ago.

“It’s boxing, anything can happen. You don’t rule anything in or out, really.

“But I think Usyk would have engaged by now in a discussion or a negotiation if he wanted to retain and defend his undisputed heavyweight world titles.”

If Usyk opts to go another route, then Parker will likely be elevated to full WBO world champion again.

The 33-year-old held the red and gold strap between 2016 and 2018 before he was eventually dethroned by Anthony Joshua in Cardiff.

If this does prove to be the case, then the winner of Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte on August 16 could act as Parker’s first defence.

Itauma is currently the next highest-ranked heavyweight by the WBO.

The major sanctioning body places him at No.1 in their ratings – a position he climbed to in May after flattening Mike Balogun.

Parker remains hopeful that he will get an opportunity to fight for all four world titles against Usyk.

But in his heart of hearts, there is clearly a feeling that he will be overlooked.

Parker told talkSPORT.com last month: “He [Usyk] seemed a bit resistant when he was questioned after the fight [about facing me].

“He named a few names, but I was last on that list. He mentioned Tyson [Fury], [Derek] Chisora, and Anthony Joshua before me.”

Joseph Parker looks to be the next man in line to challenge Oleksandr Usyk.

The Ukrainian is once again the undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time after he defeated Daniel Dubois by fifth round knockout at Wembley Stadium in London last weekend.

A number of heavyweights were vying to get the next shot at Usyk, including Tyson Fury, Agit Kabayel and Derek Chisora, but after the WBO ordered that a fight against Parker must happen next, the New Zealander looks to be in the driving seat to secure the bout.

Parker is in a great run of form, having beaten Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole in his last three contests, as he looks to once again become world heavyweight champion having previously held the WBO belt from 2016 to 2018.

He will have to do what nobody else has ever done and defeat Usyk if he is to claim world honours for the second time, and he revealed in an interview exactly what he needs to do in order to be victorious.

“With Usyk, he’s a superior boxer and a very good technician. Ring IQ is very good. You have to apply pressure and match him for punches. He throws a lot of punches, you have to be very fit, have good endurance, and be able to sustain that from the first round to the last round.”

Some of the biggest names in the boxing world have already begun to offer their predictions for a potential Usyk vs Parker fight, with former super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch one of those who has shared his thoughts.

Following Usyk’s knockout of Daniel Dubois last weekend and a trilogy clash with Tyson Fury reportedly being considered for later in 2025, questions have arisen about the next move concerning his WBO obligation.

WBO to meet over Oleksandr Usyk
Speaking exclusively to World Boxing News, WBO President Gustavo Olivieri confirmed the governing body will now assess the situation.

“The Committee will convene this week to determine the next course of action pertaining to the Mandatory title defense obligation in the heavyweight division,” Olivieri told WBN.

“As to Usyk’s performance last Saturday, he is simply an extraordinary generational talent. But most importantly, he is an exemplary human being.

“Being that the WBO was his first world sanctioning body, it is an honor to have Usyk as our champion inside and outside the ring.”

Who is the WBO heavyweight mandatory challenger?
With Joseph Parker now firmly installed as WBO interim heavyweight champion following his devastating knockout win over Martin Bakole in February 2025, the New Zealander is next in line to challenge Usyk for the full title.

Joseph Parker WBO

Parker’s rise back into contention comes at the perfect time, with the WBO expected to enforce his mandatory status.

Promoter Frank Warren, speaking after Usyk defeated Dubois for the second time at Wembley Stadium on July 19, declared that Parker had “earned his shot” and told WBO, “it’s time” to make the order.

The WBO will make its ruling at this week’s Championship Committee meeting, where the governing body will rule on the mandatory defense timeline.

Usyk, 37, remains the two-time undisputed champion of the four-belt era, but with ongoing talk of a third Fury fight, Parker’s clear waters are muddier.

The WBO could face pressure to balance its legacy with its obligations. Whether the WBO grants an exception or orders the Parker fight is the question.

WBO officials will provide a formal response on the matter by early next week.

Parker entered the ring when Usyk took out Dubois in devastating fashion. However, YouTuber Jake Paul overshadowed his appearance and stopped him from making his point.

It has to be Usyk vs Parker next or the WBO must give the number one heavyweight contender the belt outright. It’s the only decision to make.

Turki Alalshikh wants to see a cross-generational clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Moses Itauma next.

The Ukrainian slickster regained his undisputed heavyweight crown on Saturday night by stopping Daniel Dubois in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium.

Usyk has now cleared out the top three heavyweights of his generation (Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Dubois) twice and isn’t left with many worthy challengers to face.

The obvious choice would be WBO interim champion Joseph Parker, whom ‘The Cat’ is expected to be ordered to face next.

If Usyk decides to go down a different route for what is expected to be his final fight, then he will almost certainly be stripped of his WBO belt, while Parker will be elevated to full champion.

If Alalshikh gets his way, then this exact process could play out.

“I want to see Usyk against Itauma,” tweeted Alalshikh in the aftermath of Usyk’s masterclass in London. “This is the fight.”

Itauma is currently ranked within the top 10 by all four major sanctioning bodies, and currently occupies No.1 spot with the WBO.

The Chatham southpaw has turned his head during a perfect 12-0 start to life in the paid ranks and is being branded a world champion in waiting by many prominent members of the media.

Usyk is also an admirer of the 20-year-old and tipped him to succeed him as the next heavyweight king during an exclusive interview with talkSPORT.com.

“Moses Itauma, I think, is a great fighter,” he said.

“Young. 20 years old. I think Itauma has a big future.”

Itauma is yet to face an opponent of truly elite quality, although he is set to take a big step up in competition on August 17 against Dillian Whyte.

Provided he comes through that fight unscathed, he could logically face Usyk sometime next year depending on when the pound-for-pound king decides to return to the ring.

“Nothing is next,” Usyk said after his most recent outing. “It’s enough, next, I don’t know. I want to rest.

“My family, my wife, my children, I want to rest now. Two or three months, I want to just rest.

“[Then] maybe it’s Tyson Fury. Maybe we have three choices: Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua. Maybe Joseph Parker.

“Listen, I cannot now say because I want to go back home.”

The great Lennox Lewis was in London today ahead of the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.

The former champion was full of praise for the current king.

”Oleksandr Usyk is a great fighter, he’s got a great boxing IQ and he deserves [to be] where he’s at right now,” Lewis told BoxingScene and other reporters.

In just 23 professional fights in which no one has found a way to beat the Ukrainian, Usyk has crafted a solid argument that he’s one of the very best in history. Lewis in agreement.

“He’s definitely in the same group as Muhammad Ali, me, all the great fighters,” he said.

If Usyk wins this weekend, as Lewis expects, the Hall of Famer would like to see the Ukrainian follow his lead and retire at the top.

“He has nothing left to prove, he could have walked away before this fight,” Lewis said. “In boxing Daniel Dubois again, he’s taking a big risk, but if he feels he can come through it, the risk is good, because the title he can claim is big.”

Usyk’s desire, however, is to have one final fight after Saturday before riding off into the sunset after a decorated career.

“He may be pushing it, but to fight on you’ve got to have a get out plan,” said Lewis, “and his get out plan is one more fight.”

Lewis knows a thing or two about leaders from cruiserweight coming up to heavyweight; one of his greatest rivals, Evander Holyfield, was the first to successfully make the leap.

“The smaller fighters are usually more technically sound,” he said. “Evander Holyfield was, as a heavyweight, he was good… He was the best guy coming out of America and for me to go and beat him, I had to study him, and go, ‘Okay I know he throws body punches. He does this, he does that and I have to say to myself: I have win the first and last; I have to throw more punches than him; I have to win as many rounds a possible.’”

Lewis, still full of fighting spirit at 59 years old, would also fancy his chances against Usyk.

“That’s why I wish I was still fighting,” he said. “That would be my challenge to go after Usyk and beat him. I’ve watched all of his fights and I know how I would beat him. I would do it in the way I am telling Daniel to do it. Push him up against the ropes with the jab and then take advantage of him.”

Oleksandr Usyk suggested Daniel Dubois has deliberately accused him of cheating to ramp up the pre-fight tensions.

Usyk and Dubois will meet for the second time this weekend with the undisputed heavyweight titles on the line at Wembley Stadium.

The pair have a big history having first met in 2023, a fight that ended in huge controversy after Usyk was floored by a low blow which was ruled as illegal.

A fierce debate rumbles on as to whether it broke boxing’s strict rules, but Dubois and his team including trainer Don Charles accused Usyk of cheating.

Suggestions from the Briton’s team is that Usyk deliberately took the time to recover from the shot to force the referee to dismiss a potential knockdown count.

It has caused a new rift between Usyk and Dubois, with the fighters themselves clashing during their appearance at the talkSPORT towers in April.

In a fresh interview with talkSPORT, the Ukrainian believes it is simply a ploy to try to get into his head before the match-up.

“No [they didn’t get under my skin],” Usyk clarified.

“It doesn’t matter I’m not a cheater. I think it is just pre-fight mind games from his team.

“But I love to play the mind games, I also like playing football, counter-strike and pre-fight games.

“But it is my rules, I’m the king of the division. I think it’s possible to get under my skin, but only me knows how.”

Usyk went down after a shot which was deemed below the belt

Charles let loose on Usyk in a fiery rant at the launch press conference.

But the Ukrainian was largely unmoved albeit the claim drew a response from members of his team.

The low blow has been a huge point of contention for the boxing fraternity, with Dubois and his camp still feeling aggrieved by the verdict.

An appeal was rejected at the time, but now Dubois gets his shot at redemption and a place in the history books.

The tensions have been turned up to a new level since the sequel was confirmed.

Dubois pushed Usyk as things threatened to spiral out of control.

At the latest media day, the Briton screamed in his rival’s face once again but he didn’t move a muscle.

Usyk goes in with the pressure on his shoulder as the favourite to taste victory.

Dubois is much improved since their first meeting, and scored a career-best KO victory over Anthony Joshua in his previous outing last September.

But Usyk is ready for all eventualities, albeit he expects to stop Dubois before he can hear the final bell.

He continued: “Daniel is a young guy, he is dangerous every time because he has a big punch and good boxing skills.

“I have prepared well for this fight. I prepare every time for 12 rounds.

“With my coach and team I always do, but if I have a chance I will do it.

“Yes of course I believe I will do it.”

Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are just days away from meeting in the ring for the second time.

The first time these two fought was back in August 2023. Usyk was already a unified champion, having twice beaten Antony Joshua on points, while Dubois was still learning his trade and coming up through the ranks.

Despite a good start that had Usyk on the canvas after an attempted body shot, it was ruled low and the Ukrainian was given the time he needed to recover.

By the ninth round, he was back on top and stopped Dubois, with many suggesting ‘DDD’s heart was broken and that he gave up.

Since then, he has more than proven himself with three straight KO wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Joshua, most recently back in September when he defended his IBF strap.

The pair go at it again on July 19 at Wembley Stadium for all four major belts and Usyk recently revealed the hard work he has been putting in during the last few months with a picture of himself on his social media. Fans were immediately impressed and commented on his physique.

“Now that is some frightening SHAPE!” said one, while another commented, “Best he’s ever looked,” and a third claimed, “Ain’t no one stopping this man. Look at him. SOLID.”

A win for Usyk makes history and could mark his final fight as he becomes the first man to ever be a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era, while for Dubois it would very much announce him as the best in the world.

Along with being arguably the best fighter on the planet, Oleksandr Usyk is also one of the happiest and most likeable.

The two-weight world champion remains undefeated in the ring. He turned over after taking gold in the London Olympics in 2012, and by 2018 had beaten all comers to become the undisputed cruiserweight champion.

After that, he moved up to the banner division, settled in with wins over the likes of Derek Chisora, then stepped in with two-time unified champion Anthony Joshua.

The Ukrainian was barely troubled across two 12-round fights and came out with three of the four world titles. After a stoppage win over Daniel Dubois in 2023, he beat Tyson Fury in May 2024 to become undisputed at heavyweight, then repeated the result in the rematch last December.

Speaking to DAZN, he was asked about one fighter he really disliked even after the final bell, and did not hesitate to answer.

“My weakness is I love people, I love my opponent. Only one of my opponents I don’t love. It’s Marco Huck. Bad guy, because this man says bad words about my mama. It’s bad.”

Usyk beat Huck in September 2017 in the quarter-final of the World Boxing Super Series to retain his WBO cruiserweight title.

The build-up contained some bad blood between the two men, helping to explain why Usyk may still not be fond of his former rival.

Later this month, the Ukrainian rematches Dubois with all four major belts on the line. Should he win, he will be the first man in boxing history to ever become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion in the four belt era.

Oleksandr Usyk (23-0-0, 14 KOs) is a modern-day legend who has become the undisputed champion in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight weight divisions.

He’s only the third male fighter, after Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue, to achieve this extraordinary feat. He’s has had a career full of achievements, and in 2018, was named Sports Illustrated’s Fighter of the Year.

The Ukrainian boasts spectacular wins against the likes of Anthony Joshua (twice) and Tyson Fury (twice), and is the consensus greatest heavyweight of the modern era. Usyk returns to action on July 19, taking on Daniel Dubois in a rematch at Wembley Stadium in London. With a win, he could once again become the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Apart from his boxing skills, Usyk is quite the character outside the ring. He is a man of many skills and even some hardcore boxing fans might not know some of these facts about Oleksandr Usyk.

Here aref ive interesting things about the 38-year-old Ukrainian.

1. Usyk is an Olympic gold medalist

Long before winning the undisputed titles in professional boxing, Oleksandr Usyk represented Ukraine in the 2012 London Olympics, winning the gold medal in the heavyweight category. Usyk’s future opponent, Anthony Joshua, was also a gold medalist in London 2012, albeit in super heavyweight.

Notably, Usyk also competed in the Beijing Olympics, winning the silver medal in 2008. Usyk started his professional career in 2013 and has never looked back since.

2. Usyk played professional soccer before boxing

Boxing has made Usyk a global superstar. However, his athletic career started as a soccer player before he switched to the sweet science back in 2002. Usyk trained with Ukrainian club SC Tavriya Simferopol at a young age.

He returned to Soccer in 2022, training with and even playing for FC Polissya Zhytomyr.

3. Usyk had an extended amateur career

Oleksandr Usyk was a renowned name on the boxing circuit long before turning professional. He had an extended amateur career, managing to amass an impressive record of 335-15. Following his gold medal win in the London 2012 Olympics, Usyk became a professional boxer.

4. Usyk competed in the World Series of Boxing

For a smooth transition from amateur to professional, Oleksandr Usyk competed in the 2012-13 World Series of Boxing. He took part in the heavyweight division and won all of his six fights, with two of those coming by stoppage and four by unanimous decision.

Usyk defeated Junior Fa, Eric Brechlin, Joe Joyce, Magomedrasul Majidov, Matteo Modugno and Mihai Nistor.

5. Usyk co-starred with The Rock

Oleksandr Usyk’s talents are not limited to the boxing ring, as the Ukrainian has made several appearances in movies as well. The Fight Rules, A Tale As Old As Time, Reignited- Can’t Get You Out of My Head, and most recently The Smashing Machine are among the movies he’s appeared in.

Usyk co-starred with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in the MMA film The Smashing Machine.

It’s been exactly 22 months and 9 days since it all began.

Oleksandr Usyk, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, had just beaten Anthony Joshua for the second time. Meanwhile, Daniel Dubois was still recovering from his first career loss to Joe Joyce two years prior. Their paths collided at Wroclaw Stadium in Poland, and what unfolded that night ignited the fire behind their highly anticipated July 19 rematch at Wembley Stadium.

Usyk was chasing history, aiming to unify all the heavyweight belts—a dream he would eventually fulfill. But ‘DDD’ stood in his way. Though Usyk controlled much of the bout, the fifth round sparked controversy after a low blow from Dubois left the Ukrainian on the canvas. Despite the debate surrounding the legality of the shot, Usyk rallied and secured a ninth-round knockout. Yet, questions still linger: What if Usyk hadn’t been given time to recover? What if it wasn’t a low blow?

That unresolved tension is why they meet again. Dubois, now 27, has evolved—and many believe he has a real shot in the rematch. But Usyk is focused on closing the chapter for good and silencing the doubters. With fight night drawing near, the Ukrainian star delivered a heartfelt message to his mother: “Look, mom, I can fly,” before issuing a pointed reminder to Dubois: “2 weeks until Undisputed.” Interestingly, though, it’s thanks to Usyk that Dubois was able to get his hands on the IBF strap.

After beating Tyson Fury the first time, Usyk sacrificed the IBF strap to give Fury a rematch, which wouldn’t have happened if ‘The Cat’ had decided to defend his IBF strap against the mandatory challenger, Filip Hrgovic. Dubois would go on to face Filip Hrgovic for the Interim belt, and it was then that he managed to beat the Croatian boxer and start his rapid ascent in the division with a belt to show for it. A shocking and dominant win over Anthony Joshua last year cemented his position in the division, which has led him to the position he is in today as the IBF champion.

And he promises to capitalize on the opportunity he has been given.

Daniel Dubois reveals what he intends to do to beat Oleksandr Usyk

‘Dynamite’ Dubois plans to continue his momentum in the upcoming rematch against Oleksandr Usyk, as he revealed his game plan to do what hasn’t been done yet—beat ‘The Cat.’ Determined that the fight would go his way this time, Dubois continues to claim he was “robbed” during the first encounter in Poland.

“I thought it landed. We worked on that shot for a long time in camp. I feel like they robbed me,” Dubois told DAZN’s Carl Frampton. As for the rematch, Dubois plans to target Usyk’s body even more. “This time I’ve got to throw the kitchen sink at him, land everywhere,” he said. “I’m a better fighter now—more improved, better conditioned,” he added.

In case Dubois creates another upset, he will become the first English undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. However, as Mike Tyson once said, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
