Scottie Scheffler matches another Tiger Woods feat after six-win season

Scottie Scheffler has earned himself another award, matching a feat only 15-time major winner Tiger Woods has previously achieved.

Scheffler has won his fourth straight Player of the Year award as he and Woods are now the only two golfers to earn the award four seasons in a row. Otherwise known at the Jack Nicklaus Award, the 19-time PGA Tour winner who won six times in 2025, including two majors, will take it home again.

Aldrich Potgieter also became the PGA Tour’s ninth-youngest champion since 1983 to earn the Arnold Palmer Award as Rookie of the Year. It comes after Rory McIlroy beat Scheffler to another big accolade after his own historic season.

“On behalf of the PGA Tour, congratulations to Scottie Scheffler on being named PGA Tour Player of the Year and Aldrich Potgieter on earning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors for 2025,” said PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp in a statement.

“Scottie’s consistent level of success has been nothing short of spectacular as he continues to chase history on the PGA Tour, and we’re excited to see what he will deliver in 2026.

“What Aldrich has achieved at such a young age is truly remarkable. He has captivated fans across the globe including his home country of South Africa and the Tour is thrilled to see what his future holds.”

Scheffler capped off an incredible 2025 season as a U.S. Ryder Cup star and earned two major victories at the Open Championship and the PGA Championship. Along with the Player of the Year award, Scheffler earned the Byron Nelson Award for best scoring average for the third season in a row.

Scheffler has now matched Woods’ in two categories within golf with his scoring average. The 29-year old led in many categories including strokes gained, total and tee-to-green, but most remarkably matched Woods by leading in scoring average for all four days of play over the course of the season.

Scheffler was also in the running for the AGW Golf Writers’ Trophy, butRory McIlroy took home the crown after a golden season that saw him complete the grand slam at The Masters.

Scheffler started off his 2025 season with a hand injury he acquired while holiday cooking the month prior, but saw many victories after his maiden on the year at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and matching the lowest scoring total on tour since 1983.

Scheffler is one U.S. Open win away from joining McIlroy and Woods and the rest of the grand slam champion crew and has held the first spot on the Official World Golf Rankings for over 150 weeks.

Scottie Scheffler matches Tiger Woods as the only PGA Tour players to pull off this incredible scoring feat

Scottie Scheffler made more PGA Tour history on Sunday—and he didn’t even have to hit a golf shot.

The World No. 1 is enjoying the offseason, but the tour’s season-long stats became final with the year’s last official event taking place at the RSM Classic. And as is usually the case with Scheffler, this mark actually has to do with him not hitting a lot of golf shots.

Golf fans are well aware that Scheffler had the PGA Tour’s best scoring average yet again. Not surprisingly, the 29-year-old led the tour in a bunch of categories during his (latest) historic campaign that saw him add six more wins, including majors. But this stat from stats guru Justin Ray is still mind-blowing:

That’s right, Scheffler led the PGA Tour in scoring average for all four tournament days to match Tiger Woods as the only player to do that in the past 40 years when the tour started keeping official stats. Pretty amazing.

For the year, Scheffler averaged 67.45 in the first round, 68.00 in the second round, 68.40 in the third round and 68.10 in the final round. His overall adjusted scoring average of 68.131 was nearly a full shot better than Rory McIlroy.

Scheffler has done his best to brush aside the Tiger comparisons, but this won’t help stop those questions from continuing.

Scottie Scheffler Is Very Close to Breaking Crazy Tiger Woods Record as New Stat Surfaces

Scottie Scheffler’s golf resume has been nothing but remarkable. The World No. 1 has dominated the PGA Tour this season with six wins. Scheffler especially thrives under pressure, showcasing flawless ball striking and a calm presence. Right from his old days at Texas to wearing the green jacket twice, his journey showcases that discipline and talent can redefine greatness. Now, Scheffler is set to create yet another milestone, one that Tiger Woodshad set.

A recent Instagram post showcased the all-time PGA Tour money leaders. Scheffler’s earnings have surged to $99 million, which is close to Wood’s record $120 million. In only a few seasons, Scheffler is leading with the numbers and is ahead of legends like Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson. At this pace, the 29-year-old might just break Woods’ record, cementing his place among golf’s most dominant forces.

Scheffler’s streak this year has been extraordinary. He has won the title at the Masters, the Players, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, while also finishing in the top 10 in almost every start. His focus off the tee and precision have made him the man to beat week after week. Scheffler plans to return to action at the Procore Championship, focusing on closing the year with another victory to his name.

Meanwhile, his steady climb up the PGA Tour’s all-time money list puts his success in perspective. Rory McIlroy, sitting at $107 million, remains one of the few ahead of him. Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson trail at $96 million and $75 million, respectively. Yet, none have matched Scheffler’s pace of earning. The American has achieved nearly $100 million in record time.

Scheffler’s story goes back to Ridgewood, New Jersey and where he learned golf at the age of three in Dallas, Texas. Having supportive parents helped him to go for junior tournaments, learning early lessons of discipline. He became a collegiate star at the University of Texas and earned his PGA Tour card in 2019.

His rise has been fast since then. Now, with nearly $100 million in career earnings, the kid who once practiced under Texas sunsets stands on the verge of surpassing Tiger Woods’ legendary record.

Scottie Scheffler is Redefining Golf’s Financial Game

With six wins already this year, Scottie Scheffler is racing toward a financial threshold that few in golf have even threatened. In addition to his dominance on the course, he is something of a phenomenon off it in endorsements and bonuses. As the sport’s money engines are starting to rev, his ascent could announce a new benchmark for elite players.

He’s not just winning tournaments. He’s winning the game of golf as well. With prize money, bonus structures, and endorsement deals all in place, Scheffler is constructing a ledger that extends well beyond yellow jackets and trophies.

Scheffler’s story isn’t one of sudden fame. Scheffler turned pro in 2018 and climbed his way up, season by season, until he reached world number one. By mid-2025, he’d already earned about $27.7 million on the course, plus another $23 million in bonuses. Add deals with Nike, TaylorMade, and Rolex, and his estimated net worth has crossed $100 million.

In modern golf, a single win can shift millions of dollars. Scheffler sits right where sport meets business. His results prove that talent still matters most. But in today’s world, it’s magnified by media attention and global sponsorships.

Scottie Scheffler equals stunning Tiger Woods feat in perfect Ryder Cup warm-up

Death, taxes and Scottie Scheffler winning a PGA Tour event.

This time, it was the Procore Championship in Arizona that bore witness to Scheffler’s dominance.

Scheffler took home first place and a tidy $1.08million (£795k) pay day thanks to a final score of -19.

The American finished one stroke ahead of fellow countryman and Ryder Cup teammate Ben Griffin, who was chasing his third win of the year on the PGA Tour.

What Woods feat did Scheffler match?

Instead, Scheffler’s win in Arizona marked his sixth triumph this season and 19th on the PGA Tour overall.

By doing so, Scheffler has now scooped at least six victories on the PGA Tour for two seasons on the trot.

The only other man to have accomplished the feat of accruing six or more PGA Tour titles across multiple seasons since 1983 is, of course, the legendary Tiger Woods.

Woods is also some way ahead of Scheffler when it comes to six or more wins in a single season, having accomplished the feat a staggering six times.

It didn’t look as if Scheffler would join Woods in the exclusive club given he was as many as eight shots behind Griffin ahead of the second round at the Procore Championship.

But, as he has done so often, Scheffler roared back with scores of four-under and eight-under in the second and third rounds respectively.

A final round of five-under from the 28-year-old completed Scheffler’s charge to the title, as Griffin watched his lead slip away after scores of two-under in the third and final rounds.

“I knew I was going to have to have another really good day,” Scheffler said.

“Fortunate to be the winner this week.”

Scheffler’s – and Griffin’s for that matter – attention now switches to the Ryder Cup, which tees off on September 26 at Bethpage Black in New York.

How did the US Ryder Cup stars perform at the Procore Championship?

The duo were among ten of the American Ryder Cup team to compete at the Procore Championship, with Xander Schauffele absent due to the birth of his son.

Scheffler, Griffin, J.J. Spaun and Cameron Young all ended up in the top ten, with the remainder of the US Ryder Cup contingent finishing between 13th and 69th.

Despite the wide-ranging results, Scheffler was pleased the majority of the team were able to congregate in Arizona and have one final hit-out at a tournament before golf’s premier team competition gets underway.

“I think we’re all excited for the Ryder Cup to get here,” Scheffler said.

“This was a big step for us, getting all the guys together for this tournament to stay sharp and get ready.

“I’m excited to get started.”

Rory McIlroy has done opposite to Scottie Scheffler with $3.6 million at stake

Scottie Scheffler has voiced his concerns about the risk of “draining” himself, echoing Rory McIlroy’s sentiments after the latter chose to bow out of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

McIlroy, aged 36, stands out as the sole top 70 player not participating in the season’s inaugural FedEx Cup Playoffs event, which boasts a whopping first prize of $3.6 million. However, he recently banked $10 million without swinging a club.

With the PGA Tour wrapped up, all eyes are now on the Playoffs. McIlroy is not taking part, but a PGA Tour sanction threat has been made as a loophole could be banned.

Scheffler will be joining the fray in Memphis alongside the rest of the top 70 contenders. However, despite his commitment to compete, he shares many of McIlroy’s apprehensions.

Speaking at a press conference prior to the TPC Southwind event, the World No. 1 shared: “Well, I think it all comes down to the preparation and showing up ready to play.”

He continued, “Like I said, at this point in the year, that extra practice is maybe only going to be draining for me a little bit. That’s something that I’ve learned to manage as my career has gone on. I would say my prep week last week definitely looked a bit different than it would have looked before the Scottish Open.”

“It definitely looked a little bit different than it would have looked if you go back to the beginning of the year when I was coming off injury. So making sure I’m rested, ready to play.

“My game is in a good spot, and I feel like some extra practice at this point in the year can almost be detrimental in terms of just physical and mental fatigue. Showing up like you’re ready to play.”

Both McIlroy and Scheffler have emphasized the importance of taking care of their bodies and avoiding an overload of golf. However, despite sharing similar concerns, Scheffler, riding a wave of 13 consecutive top-10 finishes, seems to have enough confidence to maintain his playing schedule, doing the opposite of what World No.2 has chosen.

Since as far back as November last year, McIlroy had been contemplating sitting out the event. His track record in Memphis is less than stellar. Last year, he ended up tied for 68th out of 70 players and has yet to clinch a win in Memphis after eight tries, with his closest shot being a third-place finish in 2023.

In a conversation with the Telegraph in November 2024, McIlroy revealed: “I’ll probably not play the first playoff event in Memphis. I mean, I finished basically dead last there this year [tied for 68 in a 70-man field], and only moved down one spot in the playoff standings.”

Entering the FedEx Cup Playoffs in second place, McIlroy has comfortably secured his spots in the subsequent Playoff events, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship. The celebrated Grand Slam champion is well-positioned, ranking second and holding a substantial lead of 1,661 points over Tommy Fleetwood in third place.
