Shakur Stevenson Talks Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Vasiliy Lomachenko, With Joe Rogan

During a recent guest appearance on the popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Shakur Stevenson talked about long-rumored fights against American rival Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and all-time great amateur fighter Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Stevenson had previously indicated publicly that he would no longer speak about a prospective fight against Davis, the pound-for-pound talent who is renowned for his extraordinary exploits inside the ring as he is for controversies outside of it, too, with ongoing legal issues seemingly scuppering any shot of activity within boxing.

Arrested in January, 2026, Davis is accused of assaulting a woman at a strip club in Miami Gardens in an alleged incident from three months prior. In the time before and after this, Shakur has established himself as one of the sport’s premier talents, thanks to back-to-back wins over William Zepeda and Teofimo Lopez — both statements.

If ‘Tank’ were to return to the ring this year, it remains something Stevenson would, at least, consider.

“I would love for it to happen.”

However, that does not mean any pathway toward a successful negotiation would be smooth. “The way he went on social media, bashed me, like I need him. I just feel disrespected about it,” Stevenson said. “I’m a grown man, I make my own money, and living a spectacular life. I don’t need nobody.”

There was, perhaps, a time in which ‘Tank’s’ standing within the sport suggested he was a more popular fighter as proven by ticket sales across numerous critical American boxing markets (Las Vegas and New York City among more regional hotbeds) as well as pay-per-view sales.

However, that pendulum of power may now have swung toward Stevenson because of the run he’s in the middle of, thwarting a level of competition that Davis has not matched.

“If he feels as though I need him, then it’s like, whatever,” Stevenson told Rogan. “I’m not in need of that fight.”

Shakur Stevenson Praised Vasiliy Lomachenko

There was also enough time on the podcast to talk about a fight that could have been, but never was — one that would pit the present at the time in Lomachenko against Stevenson, then considered the future, at a time in which they both operated under the Top Rank promotional banner.

The two were aware of one another’s skills have sparred each other, when Stevenson was much younger.

“On Lomachenko: “Skillfully, I thought I was the better fighter — my range, distance, and speed was better than his but a standpoint of being in shape, throwing more punches, I feel he was – he was getting ready for his fight,” he said.

When Rogan asked if he thinks this was the reason Lomachenko was seemingly loathe to engage him in a real fight, Stevenson said yes.

Ryan Garcia says no to Shakur Stevenson’s excessive demands

To prove that someone is the best in the world of boxing, a fighter must step into the ring with excellent preparation to be ready for any situation that may arise, especially when entering as the challenger.

This appears to be something Shakur Stevenson has not fully understood, as he continues to keep the potential fight against Ryan Garcia hanging in uncertainty. In the bout that both sides are attempting to finalize, Stevenson seems determined for his opponent to accept all of his conditions, but Garcia has delivered a firm and categorical refusal.

The origin of the disagreement between Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson

This entire dispute between the two pugilists began on social media, where nowadays it seems that if matters are not discussed publicly, they do not exist. Modern times often dictate that everything unfold in that arena, whether in sports, politics, or any other aspect of life.

Through those platforms, Stevenson accused Garcia of being a weight bully. Shakur argued that in any fight contested at 147 pounds, there must be a rehydration clause that limits Ryan’s weight on the night of the event.

The challenger suggested that Garcia could come into the fight weighing around 160 pounds, or that they could establish a fixed limit of 170 pounds. Garcia immediately rejected that proposal and made it clear that he would never accept such a condition.

I will never be on a rehydration clause again, and I don’t need 20-30 pounds to beat you,” Garcia wrote on X. “I’ll beat your ass straight up.

Shakur Stevenson

Faced with this scenario, Garcia has pointed to the fight he had in 2023 against Gervonta Davis, in which weight stipulations were included that limited how much he could weigh on the night of the bout. Later, he stated that those conditions ended up affecting him and believed that the defeat may have come partly because of that situation.

Now that it appears the same type of demand is being placed in front of him once again, Garcia has issued a definitive refusal. In a social media post, he explained that any progress toward finalizing the fight will depend on eliminating the restrictions that Stevenson’s camp wants to impose.

As long as there’s no rehydration clause, things will be going forward.

Ryan Garcia

These kinds of restrictions exist in boxing because between the official weigh-in and the night of the fight, fighters can gain a significant amount of weight that could benefit them inside the ring. That is precisely the point of tension currently holding up negotiations.

For now, the disagreement remains unresolved and continues to cloud what many fans believe could become one of the most exciting bouts in recent years. Both fighters have the talent and popularity to create a major event, but unless the contractual terms are settled, the fight will remain uncertain, and the anticipation surrounding it will continue to grow without a definitive answer about whether it will actually take place.

Shakur Stevenson agrees to Ryan Garcia’s new terms for title fight: “Let’s do it”

After claiming the WBC welterweight world title, a host of fighters are eyeing up a lucrative world title shot against Ryan Garcia, but ‘King Ry’ has announced that he is willing to head to a new weight-class in order to face another world champion.

Garcia moved up to the welterweight division after missing the super-lightweight weight limit in his controversial meeting with Devin Haney in 2024, which was followed by a one-year ban from the sport due to a failed drugs test.

‘King Ry’ was unsuccessful in a WBA welterweight title fight against Rolando Romero upon his return and debut at 147lbs, but he impressed in his second outing in the division, dominating Mario Barrios on to finally become world champion.

Before that fight, it was expected that the victor would next defend the belt against mandatory challenger Conor Benn, but Garcia went on to call out WBO super-lightweight ruler Shakur Stevenson.

However, after stating he would fight Stevenson at a catchweight of 144lbs, Garcia has now had a change of heart and has offered to come down to super-lightweight in an attempt to become a two-division world champion.

“Forget the catchweight s**t.

“Let’s do it for real.

“I want to take your belt and snatch it right off you. @ShakurStevenson.”

Garcia missed weight by over three pounds when he was tasked with Haney, thus losing the chance to win the WBC super-lightweight title and insisted that ‘his body could not safely go lower than 143lbs’ and that he refuses ‘to kill himself to make the weight’.

As a result, there is concern amongst his fans that an attempted return to the weight could be a mistake. On social media, Garcia reassured his supporters that he will make the weight safely, before warning Stevenson not to make allegations alluding to his use of performance enhancing drugs.

“To those that are worried about the 140 pound weight. I will tell you this, it was my plan to be able to also win at 140.

“As long as there’s no rehydration clause things will be going forward.

“Testing always included, I’ve never shy’d away from that. For Shakur to assume I’m on steroids, that is defamation. So I would advise you to refrain yourself, I know you are deep down scared and you should have fear. I’m coming for you.

“Fear the lord.”

In response, Stevenson accepted the challenge from Garcia and opened the door for a potential super-fight in the 140lb division.

“That’s my opinion, you can’t sue nobody for their opinion, You a boxer, champ, wassup with all the suing tactics anyway? 140. Let’s do it, chump.”

A Stevenson-Garcia title fight at 140lbs would undoubtedly be one of the biggest fights that could be made in the sport.

“No Fighter in History”- Terence Crawford Reveals Exactly Why Gervonta Davis Should Fight Shakur Stevenson

It’s a close-knit band. A band of brothers: Terence Crawford, Andre Ward, and Shakur Stevenson.

In many ways, they represent the past, present, and future of boxing. Ward was Stevenson’s manager when he made his professional debut in 2017 and then, guiding Stevenson through the ups and downs of his career, Crawford was like his big brother. No wonder the older boxer is looking out for Stevenson.

Here’s the thing: Shakur Stevenson has long been under fire for his fighting style. Even the ninth-round drubbing of Josh Padley fell short of convincing the skeptics. Standing at the forefront, Gervonta Davis joins those who believe Stevenson’s resume needs a significant boost, but despite the latter’s callout, the Baltimorean has remained noncommittal. However, Crawford may have just made Stevenson’s case stronger.

During an interview with The Ring, Terence Crawford shared his views about the stacked lightweight division. With Shakur Stevenson wearing the WBC belt and the likes of Gervonta Davis, Vasyl Lomachenko, and Keyshawn Davis joining the championship roster, the division is a hotbed of immense talent. However, if asked to choose the best, Stevenson is Crawford’s obvious pick.

“I talked to him [Stevenson] and told him just be yourself you know, just keep winning. It doesn’t matter what the naysayers say and what the people that’s having certain agendas against him have to say.”

He’s a great fighter. These fighters can’t beat him. So they want to make him a normal fighter and fight the fight that they want him to fight because he is unnatural. He has his own style. There’s no fighter in history that I can remember to have a style like Shakur Stevenson,” he insisted.

In the current generation, perhaps no other boxer/fighter knows and understands the sweet science better than Terence Crawford. It’s something Oleksandr Usyk frequently acknowledges. According to the heavyweight champion, Crawford is the best boxer of the era. That’s why his discerning eyes can easily identify special talents like Stevenson.

Gervonta Davis: Is Shakur Stevenson on your radar?

It’s not the first time Crawford heaped praises on Shakur Stevenson. A month ago, he joined Stevenson to watch close associate Keyshawn Davis’ title fight with Denys Berinchyk. During the post-fight interaction with the media, he stated that in the current lineup, he foresaw only Keyshawn Davis and Shakur Stevenson capable of defeating Gervonta Davis.

When asked about a potential title unification at 135 pounds, he said that Gervonta Davis knows “what he is up against when he fights Shakur or Keyshawn.” Throwing a sweeping shot at the Baltimorean who has been frequently criticized for fighting sub-par opponents, Crawford said that those kinds of fighters do not have the mental makeup to last tough exchanges.

Hence, “Them two guys (Shakur and Keyshawn) right there, you know what I mean, is going to be the ones that, you know, give him (Tank) his first ‘L,’” claimed Crawford in February. On the same note, both the boxers are confident they could defeat ‘Tank’.

In fact, Stevenson has been trying to fight Gervonta for years now, but things simply haven’t worked out. “The ball is in his court. I can’t say ‘I’m going to send him an offer’. Turki [Alalshikh] can,” the boxer said in January.

Shakur Stevenson certainly doesn’t need anyone’s validation. Despite his resume lacking big names, Stevenson has consistently showcased his brilliant skills. With extraordinary defensive techniques and a ring IQ capable of troubling even the best sluggers, he poses a serious threat to the current roster. After the Lamont Roach debacle, if Gervonta Davis truly wants to elevate his career before his suggested retirement, fighting Shakur Stevenson could cement his legacy in boxing history.

Terence Crawford warns Ryan García about Shakur Stevenson and advises him to forget about that fight

Ryan Garcia’s dominant victory over Mario Barrios to capture the WBC welterweight title has reignited blockbuster talk in boxing. But while “King Ry” wasted no time calling out Shakur Stevenson for a potential super fight, Terence Crawford isn’t convinced that would end well for the new champion.

Garcia secured a clear unanimous decision over Barrios, showcasing improved discipline and composure en route to becoming a world champion at 147 pounds. The performance drew attention across the boxing landscape – including from Crawford, who offered a blunt preview of how a Stevenson vs. Garcia matchup could unfold.

I think [Stevenson] wipes the floor with him, I don’t think Ryan is going to be able to hit Shakur like Barrios.

Crawford elaborated on the stylistic differences, suggesting Garcia benefited from facing an opponent who lacked speed and tactical sharpness.

Barrios was right there to be hit, Barrios was too slow, Barrios didn’t have no game plan, Shakur is not going to be that fighter to be hit on. It’s simple.

Terence Crawford

The warning was clear: Stevenson’s defensive mastery and ring IQ present a far more complex challenge than what Garcia faced on Saturday night.

Shakur Stevenson sets condition as Devin Haney reacts

Stevenson, who fights at 140 pounds, appeared open to the fight – but under one critical condition.

“VADA will be involved,” Stevenson stated, referencing year-round anti-doping testing requirements.

The comment carried weight given Garcia’s previous no-contest result against Devin Haney, which was overturned after Garcia tested positive for a banned substance. The potential matchup would likely require a catchweight agreement, as Garcia now campaigns at welterweight while Stevenson holds a title at super lightweight.

Interestingly, Stevenson noted that a championship belt wouldn’t necessarily be required to sell the fight, citing the pair’s star power and global fan bases.

Meanwhile, Devin Haney – who originally suffered a majority decision loss to Garcia before it was ruled a no-contest – appeared unimpressed by Garcia’s latest performance. Although Haney did not deliver a direct verbal attack, his reaction suggested skepticism about whether Garcia’s win truly answered lingering doubts.

The boxing world remains divided. Supporters argue Garcia’s latest victory shows growth and maturity. Critics believe elite technicians like Stevenson would expose defensive gaps that still exist.

Crawford’s assessment, however, was the strongest statement yet from a pound-for-pound great. His advice to Garcia was essentially strategic: reconsider the callout.

With Garcia riding momentum as a newly crowned champion and Stevenson eager to prove himself against big names, negotiations could gain traction quickly. But stylistically, the fight poses significant risks for both men.

If it happens, it could define the next era at lightweight and welterweight. Until then, Crawford’s message echoes loudly – Shakur Stevenson is a different level of challenge entirely.

Shakur Stevenson and Ryan Garcia could be on a collision course after ‘King Ry’ became world champion on Saturday.

Garcia dropped Barrios on his way to a dominant unanimous decision victory to secure the WBC welterweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Following the bout, Garcia made it clear that he wants to face Stevenson next, the newly crowned WBO super-lightweight champion who claimed his belt with a win over Teofimo Lopez last month.

Stevenson laid out his demands for the bout to take place whilst speaking on DAZN, insisting that it would have to take place at a 144lbs catchweight and that VADA testing would be required.

“Was VADA involved in this fight? I saw him with Rolly he didn’t look like that. If he’s fighting me next, I’m all for the challenge but VADA will be involved.

“We’ll meet in the middle [144lbs]. Two big stars, we don’t need a belt for the fight.

“I think it’s a great fight to make. I’m in this for big fights. Me and Ryan would be an even bigger fight and would be a tremendous fight. I want to fight him and he want to fight me so it should be easy to get done. We’ve just got to make sure he’s on VADA and there’s no cheating involved.”

Garcia failed a drugs test in 2024 after facing Devin Haney, resulting in his win being overturned to a no contest. He returned after a 12-month ban and suffered a loss to Rolly Romero, but looked like a completely different fighter against Barrios tonight in Las Vegas.

Gervonta Davis doesn’t exist in Shakur Stevenson’s eyes and Tank’s boxing career might be over

Following the retirement of Terence Crawford, the boxing world was wondering who was going to step up and take his spot as many fans’ top pound-for-pound boxer going into the future. Oleksandr Usyk is still that guy for many, as is Naoya Inoue, but perhaps no one has ascended more over the past couple of months than Shakur Stevenson.

Stevenson’s recent dominant win over Teofimo Lopez saw him debut at junior welterweight by capturing the WBO title. At 25-0 and on the back of an impressive win, Stevenson is up to No. 3 in Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings. Now, people want to know what he’ll do next. Stephen A. Smith wanted to get to the bottom of that question in a recent interview.

Shakur Stevenson refuses to say top boxers are scared of fighting him

Smith asked Stevenson about three different boxers: Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. He wanted to know if any of them were scared of Stevenson, in the champion’s eyes. While Stevenson didn’t claim any of them are scared of him, his answer for Davis particulary stood out.

  • Shakur Stevenson on if Gervonta Davis is scared of him: “Hey man, like I said, I don’t speak on that dude.”
  • Shakur Stevenson on if Ryan Garcia is scared of him: “He’s been saying my name lately, let’s see if he really sticks with it.”
  • Shakur Stevenson on if Devin Haney is scared of him: “We’ll see, we’ll see.”

It sounds like Stevenson wants nothing to do with Davis following his legal issues. It’s smarter for Stevenson to avoid even discussing Tank at this moment in time, given how in limbo his personal and boxing future are.

Garcia and Haney are more open season. Garcia has mentioned Stevenson’s name in recent interviews, but King Ryan has to handle his own business with Mario Barrios, first, before even getting a shot at Stevenson. Haney, meanwhile, appears to be targeting either Richardson Hitchins or Keyshawn Davis for his next bout.

Roy Jones Jr explains how Shakur Stevenson ‘not ducking’ anyone has separated him from Floyd Mayweather

According to Roy Jones Jr, Shakur Stevenson may already have an attribute that separates him from Floyd Mayweather.

Just a few weeks ago, the undefeated 28-year-old, Shakur Stevenson, successfully won the Ring Magazine and WBO world super lightweight titles when he dominated Teofimo Lopez.

Due to another flawless performance, Stevenson once again drew comparisons to one of the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather.

Despite that, former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr believes that the 28-year-old already possesses an attribute that ‘Money’ Mayweather didn’t have.

Stevenson not ‘ducking’ opponents separates him from Mayweather

Although he is still early in his career, Stevenson has already fought several top level opponents on his way to becoming a champion in three different weight classes.

With his boxing style, Stevenson always finds himself being compared to Mayweather, as he often avoids damage in his fights.

In fact, opponents of the Olympic silver medalist only land 16.7 percent of their punches on Stevenson, which is the lowest rate in the sport.

And although that is what Mayweather built his career and success on, Jones Jr believes that is where the similarities between the two end, and he has claimed that Stevenson has something that separates him from the consensus GOAT.

“He is (this era’s Floyd Mayweather),” Jones Jr said in an interview with Fight Hub.

“Because he isn’t taking many chances, he isn’t giving guys no chance to beat him. The difference is (Stevenson’s) fighting everybody.

“He’s not ducking and dodging, he’s fighting everybody. That’s a little different. He can be Floyd Mayweather as far as not being beat in his era, but he’s a little different because he’s willing to take on the biggest challenges.”

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao hold each other during their 2015 bout

Mayweather was often criticized for delaying fights or avoiding opponents

Throughout his career, despite maintaining his flawless 50-0 record, Mayweather was often criticized for avoiding opponents or delaying matchups.

Although he and Manny Pacquiao finally fought in 2015, Mayweather was criticized for years for delaying the fight and finally agreeing to fight ‘Pac Man’ outside of his prime.

It’s not looking good for WBC. Last year, after Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez to become the undisputed super middleweight champion, ‘Bud’ refused to bend to the sanctioning fees demands made by the World Boxing Council.

He accused them of riding the coattails of boxers without providing any real value. Crawford was subsequently stripped of his WBC title. It didn’t matter much since the three-division undisputed great announced his retirement anyway.

When the same demand was made to Shakur Stevenson after his recent bout with Teofimo Lopez, he too joined the cause and vacated the WBC belt rather than pay the exorbitant fees demanded by the sanctioning body. Now, the entire fiasco has Mike Tyson worked up over it all.

JUST IN: Risk, Reward, And Reputation: Why This Is the Fight Gervonta Davis Cannot Ignore

Currently, ‘Iron Mike’ is launching the Mike Tyson Invitational, an amateur boxing showcase/tournament aimed at developing and reviving American boxing talent. The three-day invitational event is scheduled for March 12–14 in Las Vegas at the Radiant Brand Complex. So, ahead of the tournament, he appeared in an interview with TMZ Sports where he was asked about the debacle.

Mike Tyson urges others to follow Terence Crawford and Shakur

Despite being extremely close to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, the heavyweight legend has made his stance on the issue. “Listen, I like the WBC. I respect [them], but no one needs a ranking body,” Tyson told TMZ Sports’ Mike Babcock. “Fighters fight fighters. And that’s how [they] hold the belt. You don’t need a belt to define [that] you’re the best. Your skills define if you’re the best. You don’t need [any] organizations.”

He went on to argue that most boxers simply don’t earn enough to justify paying sanctioning fees to organizations like the WBC. “A guy like me, I should pay some fees. I don’t mind paying fees. If you [are] making the money I make. But the money these guys [are] making, a million bucks, they’ve got to pay some fees? No, no, no,” Tyson asserted.

There is a widespread misconception about fighter pay in boxing. Many assume boxers earn purses comparable to stars like Canelo Alvarez, Ryan Garcia, or Gervonta Davis. In reality, only a small percentage of fighters reach that level of financial success. The vast majority struggle to make a stable living throughout their careers. And when those fighters finally win a title or get a place in the rankings and begin expecting better paydays, Tyson believes sanctioning fees feel excessive and unfair.

“What are we paying the fees for? What protection are we getting by paying these fees? Am I going to have a retirement fund? No. I’m not going to do that,” Tyson stated. “I’m giving you fees to just bankrupt my family.” For him, only the most gullible would agree to pay such sanctioning fees.

Mike Tyson stated that promoters take advantage of fighters anyway before sanctioning bodies step in to claim their share of the revenue generated by the boxers’ hard work. So that makes it all the more harder to earn a living as a boxer.

When asked about Terence Crawford and Shakur Stevenson pushing back against the WBC, Tyson quickly voiced his support for the duo. “Oh, you[‘ve] got to fight back. When they fight back, all the other fighters will fight back,” Tyson said.

As for Stevenson’s dispute with the WBC, the Newark native reportedly raised serious allegations—claims that only reinforce Tyson’s criticism of the sanctioning body.

Shakur Stevenson calls the WBC ‘crooks’

It happened just days after he defeated Teofimo Lopez to win the WBO junior welterweight title at Madison Square Garden. The former lightweight champion blasted the WBC on social media after they made their demand for fees apparent to him. The WBC cited its rules regarding champions who win titles in new weight classes in order to justify their fees. Rather than pay up, Shakur decided to simply vacate his WBC lightweight title.

Taking to X, he alleged the organization stripped him due to a $100,000 sanctioning fee he refused to pay. “100k to some crooks who don’t deserve it?” Stevenson wrote. He added, “The WBC didn’t even have [anything] to do with this fight, and it’s eating them alive. Take your belt, it [doesn’t] make me.”

Stevenson also questioned the timing of the decision, writing, “What the hell am I giving y’all 100k right now for?” He claimed it was personally motivated because of his close friendship with Terence Crawford.

Regardless, there appears to be a growing pushback against the WBC and other sanctioning bodies over the entire fallout. And at a time when Zuffa Boxing is entering the sport, this might not bode well for the three-letter organizations.

What really happened to Terence Crawford’s $15,000 bet on Shakur Stevenson after dodging Adin Ross’s near scam?

Some would have bet against Shakur Stevenson before his fight with Teofimo Lopez. Until the first bell rang, most people thought the fight was a 50–50 contest. Once the fight started, ‘Sugar outboxed, outpunched, and outclassed ‘The Takeover.’ Nobody was surprised by the result, least of all Terence Crawford.
Crawford, Stevenson’s long-time friend and training partner, didn’t consider thinking to put $10,000 on Stevenson’s win when he appeared on celebrity streamer Adin Ross’ livestream last December. Crawford came to receive his winnings from Ross after ‘Sugar’ proved him right on January 31 with a powerful, unanimous decision victory over Teofimo Lopez.

What made things uncomfortable between Terence Crawford and Adin Ross?

Shakur Stevenson made an appearance on a livestream with Ross earlier today, with Crawford joining them later. Ross said, “Why are you so happy?” Crawford replied, “Because I came to collect.” As Ross lost the bet worth $10,000, he said, “I feel like I should just scam, because what are you going to do?”

https://www.instagram.com/adinross/?hl=en?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading

The atmosphere suddenly became awkward as all three of them laughed uneasily. Terence Crawford then cautioned Ross about the public perception. “I’m just going to be like, ‘Man, that’s crazy, Adin. And all the people are going to be like, Man, Adin, you’re not a stand-up guy,” he stated, highlighting the possible backlash. Ross eased the tension right away.
Ross said, “You know I’m joking, right? Look what I have in my pocket right here.” He pulled a bundle of cash, handing it to Crawford. However, the money exchange didn’t end there. ‘Bud’ stated that Ross would also have to pay the interest. Ross offered to transmit the money right away at the venue using either Zelle or cryptocurrency, but Crawford said he didn’t use either.

Stevenson also questioned how much interest Ross owed. “I’d say $5,000… needs $2,500, because you bet against him,” Crawford explained. Ross declared, during the stream, “I’m not going to lie, guys, Teo will win the rematch.”

However, there doesn’t appear to be any quick pressure for a rematch, especially considering how dominant Stevenson was during the fight, and the Newark native seemed well aware of that. “We can fight 10 times; he won’t win one,” Stevenson stated. This also brings a question: who will be Stevenson’s next opponent? And who will help him earn even more if Crawford bets against Ross?
