Gervonta Davis Speaks at Bond Hearing as Lawyer Says He Is the Victim

Gervonta Davis briefly addressed the court during a bond hearing following his arrest in Miami, as his attorney claimed the former world champion is “actually a victim” in the case.

Davis was released later the same day after bond was set at $16,000, with the court issuing a stay-away and no-contact order as part of the conditions of his release.

Davis appeared before a judge after being taken into custody on charges of attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, and battery stemming from an alleged October incident.

During the hearing, the court outlined strict conditions tied to his release.

Judge issues stay-away order as Davis responds
“Mr. Davis, you are ordered to stay away from the alleged victim,” the judge said. “No contact with the victim either directly, indirectly, in person, in writing, by telephone, or through third parties. Do you understand the stay-away order, sir?”

Davis responded simply, “Yes.”

The judge then summarized the charges before the court, stating: “Attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, and battery.”

Attorney disputes allegations during hearing
During the proceeding, Davis’ attorney disputed the allegations.

“Where their alleged victim has lied to them in an effort to try and extort money out of somebody,” Davis’ lawyer told the court. “This case is going absolutely nowhere. The police officer who investigated this was lied to blatantly.”

An objection was raised during the exchange, with opposing counsel noting that probable cause had already been established.

“A judge has already found probable cause,” the attorney said.

Davis’ lawyer then clarified that he was not seeking to relitigate the case during the hearing.

“All I’m asking is, Your Honor, leave the bond and issue the stay-away order,” he said. “I understand this is not my first date.”

Bond was left in place, and the no-contact order was formally issued as a condition of Davis’ release.

Lawyer reiterates “victim” claim in statement
Following the hearing, Davis’ attorney reiterated his position, saying the case would ultimately be viewed differently as it moves through the court.

“Gervonta Davis is actually a victim here, and I look forward to establishing that shocking narrative in court,” the lawyer said in a statement to The Associated Press.

“What has happened to Gervonta Davis in this case will transcend the initial charges against him and expose a level of criminality which will be talked about long after his charges are resolved.”

The case remains ongoing.

Gervonta Davis Arrest Ends With Same-Day Release on Bail

Gervonta Davis was arrested in Miami on Wednesday following a weeks-long search that began after authorities issued an arrest warrant tied to an alleged domestic incident in October.

The Miami Gardens Police Department confirmed that detectives, working in coordination with the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, located Davis after tracking his movements across multiple counties. Officers observed Davis exiting a retail location in Miami’s Design District and took him into custody without incident.

Police said Davis was charged with battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping. He was transported for warrant processing before being booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Facility.

Released on bail after brief custody
Court records show Davis was released on bail later the same day after spending a short period in custody. Bail was set at $16,000.

While the immediate legal process allowed for his release, the charges carry potential custodial consequences if the case proceeds, placing Davis’ immediate and long-term boxing future under serious uncertainty.

October incident and surveillance review
The charges stem from an alleged incident on October 27, 2025, at a Miami Gardens gentlemen’s club. Court documents identify the alleged victim as Courtney Rossel.

According to ESPN, surveillance footage from the venue was reviewed by investigators and corroborated elements of the account outlined in police filings. An active warrant was subsequently issued, and Davis remained at large for two weeks prior to his arrest. U.S. Marshals assisted local authorities during the search.

Civil case and championship status
In addition to the criminal charges, Davis faces a civil lawsuit filed by Rossel alleging battery, kidnapping, and emotional distress related to the same October incident, according to Local 10 News.

Court records indicate that multiple service attempts connected to the civil case were unsuccessful while the criminal warrant remained outstanding.

During that period, Davis’ status with the World Boxing Association was changed to “champion in recess.” President Gilberto Mendoza later reported that the organization stripped Davis of his lightweight title while he remained at large.

Career impact and prior legal history
The arrest led to the cancellation of a planned bout between Davis and Jake Paul.

Davis has faced prior legal issues, including a domestic violence case in 2020 and a 2023 conviction for leaving the scene of a crash that injured four people. He served a period of house arrest related to the latter case.

Miami Gardens Police stated that the investigation remains focused on victim protection and public safety.

Gervonta Davis arrested by police, U.S. Marshals for Miami Gardens domestic violence incident

Professional boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis was arrested Wednesday in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident from last year, officials said.

Miami Gardens Police announced that Davis, 31, was taken into custody without incident in Miami’s Design District by Special Investigations officers and the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force.

Davis faces charges of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping, police said.

“The Miami Gardens Police Department remains committed to protecting victims, holding offenders accountable, and ensuring the safety of our community,” the department said in a post on Instagram.

The alleged incident happened Oct. 27 at a gentlemen’s club in Miami Gardens, where the woman worked. Officials said they aren’t releasing her name or the name of the club for her safety.

Davis allegedly grabbed the woman by the back of her head, pulling her with one hand and holding her throat with another as he forcefully took her to a parking garage, police said.

He eventually released her, and she ran to coworkers, police said. She suffered bruises on her left arm.

Police said the woman had known Davis since 2022 and had been in an intimate relationship with him, but it ended a month before the incident.

Surveillance video corroborates the victim’s statement about the incident, police said.

A warrant was issued for his arrest earlier this month.

Davis has previously faced multiple domestic violence charges in South Florida, including this past July, when he was accused of hitting the mother of his children.

He was also arrested in Broward County in 2022 in another domestic violence case.

Davis was also previously charged in Coral Gables for a 2020 incident in which he allegedly beat his girlfriend, but those charges were dropped.

Gervonta Davis Emerges as Preferred Rematch Target for Isaac Cruz

Gervonta Davis is set to receive an offer to rematch Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, with the sequel now positioned as the preferred next move once Davis is in a position to move forward.

Sean Gibbons, who represents Cruz, confirmed to World Boxing News that a second fight with Davis sits at the top of the agenda.

“That’s the fight we want to do,” Gibbons told WBN. “Once he returns.”

The comments mark a clear shift in direction following earlier discussions that briefly placed Davis on a shortlist of potential opponents for Manny Pacquiao. Gibbons confirmed that the scenario is no longer being considered.

Cruz points back to Davis after Roach draw
Cruz’s renewed focus on Davis follows his recent draw with former Davis opponent Lamont Roach. While a rematch between Cruz and Roach remains possible, World Boxing News understands that Davis is now viewed as the priority option for Cruz this summer.

The first meeting between Davis and Cruz in December 2021 produced a competitive, hard-fought bout that ended with Davis winning a unanimous decision. A rematch has remained a talking point ever since, particularly as Cruz continued to establish himself as a durable and crowd-friendly contender.

From Cruz’s side, the appeal is straightforward: a return to the biggest stage against one of boxing’s most recognizable lightweights.

Davis return tied to unresolved matters
Any movement on a rematch timeline is dependent on Davis resolving ongoing legal matters. Davis has not competed since his last ring appearance, and WBN understands that clarity on his return will come only once those issues are addressed.

Until then, the offer remains contingent rather than immediate. However, the intent from Cruz’s camp is clear, and the rematch is viewed as the most meaningful option available once Davis is ready to resume his career.

Pacquiao options narrow as landscape shifts
The change in Cruz’s direction also affects the wider picture at the top end of the sport. Pacquiao’s name has continued to circulate in comeback discussions, but Davis is no longer part of that equation.

Instead, new complications have emerged. Promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that talks are underway involving Conor Benn, with the potential for Benn to step into the long-discussed title opportunity against Rolando Romero.

If that matchup is secured, either in the UK or Las Vegas, Pacquiao’s remaining options become increasingly limited, leaving familiar territory — including Floyd Mayweather — as one of the few realistic fallbacks.

For now, the clearest path forward belongs to Cruz. And once Davis can compete again, the rematch he has been waiting for appears to be waiting for him as well.

“Weird”: Gervonta Davis’ First Video Since Civil Lawsuit Caused $40M Loss Has Fans Speculating CTE

Gervonta Davis is back. Not in the boxing ring, but on social media. Why was he gone? Well, weeks before his much-anticipated fight against Jake Paul last year, his ex-girlfriend sued him for battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping. This had devastating effects on his career.

Having already discussed retirement, ‘Tank’ was forced to back out of the fight after Paul’s MVP canceled the bout. Davis was reportedly set to earn a massive $40 million paycheck from the encounter on Netflix. Regardless, it appears Davis is in high spirits with his first video on social media.

Gervonta Davis shows off his old moves

In a clip obtained by Fight Hub TV, Davis can be seen dancing in a rather unusual manner. “Gervonta Davis is back on social media, with an unusual video,” Fight Hub TV captioned the post. However, for Davis’ long-time followers, this behavior is nothing out of the ordinary. Several videos circulating across the internet show Davis frequently showcasing his “unusual” moves—antics that feel oddly unbecoming of his undefeated aura.

Davis’ absence from social media followed a turbulent year inside and outside the ring. Before ultimately missing out on the Jake Paul fight, Davis had squared off against Lamont Roach Jr. The matchup wasn’t unfamiliar territory, as the Baltimore native had already defeated Roach Jr. twice in the past. However, when they met again under the bright lights, the outcome was drastically different.

Roach Jr. pushed Gervonta Davis to his limits, to the point where ‘Tank’ was forced to take a knee mid-fight—an incident that sparked significant controversy. In the end, Davis recorded the first draw of his professional career against Roach Jr. Still, in response to Davis’ latest video, some fans have begun speculating whether the boxer may have absorbed too many blows to the head.

Tank was always a little weird, says fan

One of the first comments the post received aimed to mock Davis for his moves and his infamous knee during the Roach Jr. fight. “Y’all he’s playing, but he’s showing that his knee is better; he had surgery on it recently,” the user commented. No reports confirm that Davis had indeed had surgery.

Meanwhile, this user wasn’t surprised by Davis’ dance moves. “He has always been a little weird. Pitbull made it worse,” the user commented. Davis’ fight against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz was a close affair, where ‘Pitbull’ landed pretty decent blows. However, Davis ultimately won the fight by decision.

The next user had a theory about why Davis posted the dancing clip. “CTE, boredom, needing a little attention, he good,” the user commented. While CTE is a prevalent problem in boxing, Davis doesn’t appear to show many symptoms quite yet.

Another user pointed out the video wasn’t out of the norm for Davis. “He always [does] these videos like that dancing one,” the user wrote. However, Gervonta Davis always gets mocked for the videos as well.

For someone else, however, the video was confirmation that Davis was suffering from CTE. “Yep …. CTE confirmed  I see why he said he done with boxing,” the user commented. While Davis has indicated he will hang up his gloves, that could always be a ploy to gain more attention.

Gervonta Davis is a fugitive from justice and the WBA has stripped him of his lightweight world title. Off-ring scandals and serious allegations mark the boxer’s downfall.

Gervonta Davis could see his world title go to fierce rival following arrest warrant

Gervonta Davis has been downgraded from his position as the WBA lightweight world champion and now one of his fiercest foes could be poised to fight for the full belt.

‘Tank’ fought once during 2025, controversially drawing with then WBA super-featherweight world champion Lamont Roach Jr and perhaps being fortunate to do so.

The Baltimore brute was then expected to take on Jake Paul in November, but he was pulled from the bout due to domestic violence allegations, after a civil lawsuit was filed by one of his ex-partners.

Now, the 31-year-old has been issued an arrest warrant for that incident, citing charges including false imprisonment, battery and attempted kidnapping, with the WBA responding by naming Davis as a champion-in-recess, thus making their lightweight title a vacant one.

At present, the frontrunner to challenge for the belt is WBA #1 contender Floyd Schofield, with #2 contender Lucas Bahdi deemed the most likely man for the opposing corner in a vacant title clash.

However, Roach Jr, who also drew in a bid for the WBA super-lightweight crown last year, told his Twitch stream that he plans to return to lightweight, where he is rated as the WBA #4, and challenge Schofield for the title.

“There is a possibility that I can fight Kid Austin [Schofield] for the WBA 135lb title. We definitely gonna push for that.”

It remains to be seen whether the WBA will order Schofield to take on Bahdi, Roach Jr. or #3 rated Bakhodur Usmonov but Roach will likely be the fans’ pick, after many feels he deserved to get his hands on the belt when he drew with Davis last March.

Lawyer Shares Grim Update Amid Police Manhunt as Gervonta Davis Stripped of WBA Title

Things went from bad to worse for Gervonta Davis in the blink of an eye. The Baltimore native was supposed to rake in millions in an exhibition fight against Jake Paul in November. Instead, his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, filed a civil lawsuit against him, forcing MVP to cancel the fight. As it turns out, this was only the beginning of his troubles.

The Miami Gardens Police Department announced there’s an arrest warrant out for Davis, and a search for the boxer ensued. Even the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force got involved to locate and apprehend him, as he had not turned himself in. Now, the latest reports reveal that the search from the cops has followed a failed search from the victim’s attorney.

Is Gervonta Davis in hiding?

According to a report from Boxing Scene, Rossel’s attorney Richard Wolfe had been trying to locate the three-division champion. “We have been attempting to obtain service of process [on Davis], and we are certain we will obtain service of process when Mr. Davis has been arrested,” Wolfe told Boxing Scene.

When asked where he thinks Gervonta Davis currently is, the attorney shared a grim update. “No idea. We sent our process server to his house six times without success. We have filed a motion to allow an alternative service—when someone’s evading service—by publication. That’s set for [a] hearing,” Wolfe added during the interview.

It’s worth noting that the Gardens Police’s attempts to locate Davis and the attorney’s hunt are different matters. Regardless, Wolfe is confident that Davis will be forced to answer for the alleged attack on his ex-girlfriend in October, which started Davis’ troubles. “We attempted to resolve the matter without success,” Wolfe said.

“And we look forward to presenting our client’s testimony in court,” Wolfe concluded his statement to Boxing Scene. The damages sought in the civil lawsuit are currently unknown, as Florida allows the amount to be kept private if it’s above $50,000. In the meantime, though, Davis’ professional boxing career also appears to be taking a downturn.

After news broke that a warrant had been issued for Davis’ arrest, the World Boxing Association (WBA) responded quickly. They were quick to label the 31-year-old ‘champion in recess,’ which effectively strips Davis of his WBA lightweight title.

This will allow contenders to compete for the strap while Davis grapples with his legal issues. However, if Davis gets himself free of his legal problem, he can come back and directly challenge for the belt. For now, he hasn’t fought since his controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March last year. And for good reason, take how Jake Paul reacted to Davis’ lawsuit.

Jake Paul went ballistic over ‘Tank’ Davis’ lawsuit

The YouTuber-turned-boxer took to X to unload on Davis following news of a civil lawsuit filed in Miami that accuses the boxing star of battery and kidnapping. The allegations, which add to a series of past abuse claims against Davis, ultimately led to the bout being scrapped.

An angry Paul did not hold back, branding Davis an “actual walking human piece of garbage” and detailing what he described as repeated unprofessional behavior, including bizarre demands and showing up hours late to promotional shoots.

Paul also condemned fans who continue to support Davis, saying he refused to give Davis “a platform” to grow his fame or fortune. Paul apologized to undercard fighters and his MVP team for the fallout, before declaring he’s already moving on to a new opponent—“Anyone. Anytime. Any place.”

He ultimately fought Anthony Joshua in December and ended up with a fractured jaw in two places.

Whether Gervonta Davis suffers the consequences of his actions is yet to be seen. However, his career already appears to be suffering. He not only missed out on making millions, but his legal problems will take out a lot of money from his pocket.

Authorities remain unable to locate Gervonta Davis, as the 31-year-old has been missing since an arrest warrant was formally issued on January 14.

This was in response to charges over battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping from an incident involving his former partner, Courtney Rossel.

Surveillance footage reportedly corroborates allegations that Davis physically restrained Rossel at her workplace and attempted to force her into a parking garage. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force is currently assisting the Miami Gardens Police Department in the search.Authorities Unable To Locate Gervonta Davis

“At this time, the Miami Gardens Police Department is actively working with the United States Marshal’s fugitive task force to locate and apprehend Mr. Davis. Domestic violence is a serious crime, and the Miami Gardens Police Department remains committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting victims. The investigation determined that Mr. Davis used force to restrain in an attempt to remove the victim from the location against her will,” Emmanuel Jeanty (MGPD executive officer) said

The WBA took decisive action by officially downgrading Davis’ status from full lightweight champion to “champion in recess.” This move effectively strips Davis of his title while his legal situation remains unresolved. The WBA is now expected to authorize a fight for the vacant belt, with Floyd Schofield Jr. and Lucas Bahdi currently positioned as the primary candidates to fight for the belt.

Authorities React

Davis’s history of legal trouble does not help him. Having served time in a Baltimore jail in 2023 for violating his home detention following a hit-and-run, Davis now faces the prospect of a lengthy prison sentence. Attorneys representing the alleged victim noted that process servers have made multiple failed attempts to reach him at his residence.

“We have been attempting to obtain service of process [on Davis] and we are certain we will obtain service of process when Mr. Davis has been arrested. We sent our process server to his house six times without success. We have filed a motion to allow an alternative service – when someone’s evading service – by publication. That’s set for hearing,” Richard Wolfe (attorney for Rossel) said
