Gervonta Davis says he has only felt true power from one fighter

Gervonta Davis is known for his own huge power but he has revealed the biggest puncher he’s faced.

The future of Davis is currently up in the air, having not competed since he was held to a controversial majority decision draw against Lamont Roach back in March.

He then looked set for an exhibition bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in November, but that event was cancelled after ‘Tank’ was named in a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations.

Prior to his difficult 2025, Davis was widely regarded as one of the heaviest hitters in the sport, pound-for-pound, with 28 of his 30 victories coming by knockout.

When it comes to naming who hit him hardest though, one name stood out for Davis, as he revealed during a past media scrum that he gives that recognition to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

“I ain’t going to lie, Rolly hit hard. People are sleeping on Rolly. He hasn’t got a chin, so Rolly gets caught, but he can hit … He’s the only person I have felt. When he swung, it felt like there were bricks in his hands.”

‘Tank’ met Romero back in May 2022, claiming a sixth round TKO victory. Since then, Romero has won the WBA super-lightweight title, and then picked up the biggest win of his career when he defeated Ryan Garcia back in May.

The victory over Garcia saw Romero win the WBA Regular welterweight title, and he has since been upgraded to full champion.

A fight between Romero and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao had been touted for 2026, but it appears that ‘Rolly’ will have to defend his belt against his mandatory challenger Shakhram Giyasov next instead, or risk being stripped.

Gervonta Davis appears to have made up his mind on his boxing return.

It was a difficult period for ‘Tank’ in 2025, with the year beginning with a controversial majority decision draw to Lamont Roach in his WBA lightweight title defence in March.

The main talking point from the fight came when Davis voluntarily took a knee and retreated to his corner claiming he had grease in his eyes, with many onlookers claiming that should have led to a knockdown being scored, and Terence Crawford even thinking he should have been disqualified.

An immediate rematch was then expected to take place, but instead ‘Tank’ opted for an exhibition bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, which was scheduled for November.

It never went ahead after Davis was named in a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations, and after the Baltimore man had previously stated that he had plans to retire at the end of the year, it appeared that his time in a boxing ring may have been up.

Davis seems to have now made a U-turn on those comments though, after revealing he is targeting one man in particular for his return.

Taking to social media after Isaac Cruz and Roach recently fought to a majority decision draw, ‘Tank’ said he wants to take on Cruz.

“I’m taking him next, soon as my knee gets better.”

Davis previously fought Cruz back in December 2021, claiming a unanimous decision victory. Cruz is a former WBA super-lightweight champion, and currently holds the WBC interim crown at 140lbs, which he retained with that draw against Roach in December.

Abdullah Mason doesn’t want to take his eyes off Sam Noakes, but he’s looking ahead, too.

The Ring’s No. 9 lightweight contender is getting his first crack at a world title when he takes on Noakes, ranked No. 8 by The Ring, on “The Ring IV: Night of the Champions” card Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Getting his hands on the WBO crown is salient, but if everything goes according to plan Mason knows he’ll have several options. Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) occupies most, including The Ring’s, No. 1 spots at 135 pounds.

However, Mason believes that if the time comes to face Stevenson, he won’t be as difficult to deal with as a certain hard-hitting star from Baltimore.
“I feel like Tank [Gervonta Davis] may prove to be a tougher test,” Mason told Boxing Social.
Davis’ talent has never been denied, but his mental state has been questioned. The 31-year-old WBA titlist is dealing with a civil lawsuit filed by ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel. In the suit, Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is accused of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Those allegations led to the cancellation of his exhibition against Jake Paul, which was supposed to take place on November 14 at Kaseya Arena in Miami.
Also, Davis said before his most recent legal challenge that after his matchup with Paul, he would retire. Still, Mason (19-0, 17 KOs) respects what he brings to the table.
Davis typically takes out his opponents before the final bell. He did, however, settle for a majority draw against Lamont Roach on March 1 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
Stevenson, on the other hand, has been near perfect. He successfully defended his WBC 135-pound crown twice this year, against Josh Padley (TKO 9) in February and William Zepeda (UD 12) in July.
Stylistically, Stevenson is normally a nightmare. Mason would rather deal with his boxing ability than get in there with a fighter who can end it all with one punch.
“You gotta watch out with Tank and him having that power,” Mason said. “I feel like Tank would be a tougher test.”

“There’s been no fight like it”: Gervonta Davis targeted for ‘super fight’ rematch

Gervonta Davis has been called out for a money-spinning rematch, most likely at a weight where he would be forced to contend with a considerable size discrepancy.

The 31-year-old has not fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach, who was ultimately denied a monumental upset victory in March.

Their lightweight encounter was then followed by the bizarre news that Davis, who still holds the WBA world title at 135lbs, would be entering an exhibition match with Jake Paul.

The pair were supposed to meet at a catchweight of 195lbs on November 14, before ‘Tank’ was ruled out of their Netflix event due to fresh allegations of domestic violence.

Instead, Paul suffered a sixth-round stoppage defeat to Anthony Joshua last Friday, with Davis still facing legal action from his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel.

As of now, it is difficult to gauge whether the Baltimore man will ever return to the ring, let alone defend his WBA title against a worthy challenger.

But, nevertheless, Ryan Garcia has now thrown his hat into the ring for a potential rematch, hoping to avenge his seventh-round stoppage defeat of 2023.

The 27-year-old is expected to challenge WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios this coming February, despite suffering a points loss to Rolando Romero in May.

But while that does appear to be the plan, Garcia has nonetheless expressed his interest in a second encounter with Davis.

Sharing his thoughts on X, ‘King Ry’ signalled that he hopes to be involved in another blockbuster event, whether it be a Davis rematch or something of equal magnitude.

“To be real there hasn’t been a fight like my fight with Gervonta. We brought OG super fight back for one night. I want to do another one like that.”

Garcia has made no secret that he wants to avenge his loss to ‘Tank,’ citing the rehydration clause as the reason behind the dominant defeat. As he now campaigns at 147lbs and doesn’t look to be dropping back down, running it back with the naturally smaller Davis seems more unlikely than ever.

Gervonta Davis offered chance to fight for world title in new weight class: “He’s looking for him”

Devin Haney and his trainer-father Bill Haney are basking in the glow of their recent victory over Brian Norman Jr.

Haney became a three-division world champion with a resurgent display, outboxing the hard-hitting Norman to hand him the first loss of his career.

The points victory suggested Haney had put his previous two outings — against Ryan Garcia and Arnold Barboza — firmly behind him, and his father wasted little time in calling out one of the sport’s biggest names.

In a video with Fight Hub TV, Bill Haney had a message for Gervonta Davis and his team, offering ‘Tank’ the chance to face his son for his new WBO welterweight title next year.

“Coach Calvin [Ford], Coach [Ellis], Team Tank Davis, I got some good news and I got some bad news. The good news is Devin bought me another Mercedes. Another one. The bad news is the Grinch didn’t buy you guys one, but ‘Deebo’ is looking for him and he’s on the list. So let’s see if in 2026 you can’t influence your man to be more like [Devin].”

Davis currently holds the WBA lightweight title, but a move 12lbs north to 147 to face Haney would not necessarily be considered a stretch as “Tank” had been set to challenge cruiserweight crossover star Jake Paul last month month before the bout was cancelled amid serious allegations made against Davis.

However, Haney doesn’t seem to be on Davis’ radar as he recently announced a rematch with Isaac Cruz is his preferred option.

Lamont Roach may have given Gervonta Davis all he could handle, but ‘Tank’ doesn’t see anything special in the former junior lightweight champion.

Roach faced Isaac Cruz on Saturday in his first appearance since fighting Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) to a controversial draw on March 1 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Initially, Davis agreed to an immediate rematch with Roach, before ultimately choosing to partake in an exhibition with Jake Paul. After more domestic violence allegations against Davis came to light, the Paul fight was scrapped.
At Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, Roach (25-1-3, 10 KOs) was knocked down and fought a close contest with Cruz, settling for his second majority draw of the year. In the aftermath of the fight, Davis gave some very brief thoughts on Roach.
“He’s a gatekeeper,” Davis said on his X account. “That’s it.”

Roach, 30, was forced to play catch-up against Cruz after touching the canvas in the third round. To his credit, he fought well in the pocket. Cruz, who lost a close decision to Davis in 2021, was deducted a point in the seventh after a kidney punch.

This may not be the last time Cruz (28-3-2, 18 KOs) and Roach see each other in the ring. At the post-fight presser, they sat side-by-side. Each man stated their case for why the scorecards should have been in their favor. Nevertheless, in the midst of those discussions, they both agreed to a prompt rematch.
That sequel, however, will take time after it was revealed Roach suffered a broken right hand in the fifth round.

Gervonta Davis Breaks Silence On Jake Paul Fight Collapse With Defiant Message

Soon after news broke that Jake Paul’s scheduled fight against Gervonta “Tank” Davis, which was supposed to take place on November 15, was cancelled, Paul took to social media to put Tank on blast.

“Gervonta Davis is an actual walking human piece of garbage. Working with him is an absolute nightmare. The unprofessionalism, the bizarre requests, the showing up hours late to shoots. To the numerous arrests and related accusations and lawsuits. If you support this man you support the most vile sin a man can commit,” Paul wrote.

It’s scary that devilish men like this can rise to the top of culture and sports, including in positions of power. I hope you people moving forward look beyond his fake streetwear pieces ‘SWAG’ and search for something deeper to be a fan of,” he added.

Paul is referring to Davis having a domestic violence lawsuit filed against him at the end of October, which is presumably why the fight was cancelled.

Gervonta Davis Dodges Accountability with Message on Jake Paul Fight Failure

It doesn’t seem that Tank Davis is keen to accept accountability for this exhibition fight against Paul (which was surely going to be a massive payday for both men, given that it was going to be broadcast on Netflix).

He broke his silence on the bout’s cancellation with an X post on December 7 that read, “[Paul] was getting his a** beat in camp…..i was gonna do him bad..but everything happens for a reason that’s why I didn’t trip. Shawty has a whole history of going after men with money .. it’s me so y’all believed it. Y’all couldn’t wait. More opportunities in da future though. 👌🫡”.

The reigning WBA lightweight champion also called out Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) in a subsequent post, writing, “MVP couldn’t uphold nothing. Al [Haymon] had to come in to take over everything… MVP IS GARBAGE! Y’all run nothing at Netflix. Y’all are just workers,” per a December 8 article from talkSPORT.

Both of these posts were subsequently deleted, as is always the case when Tank posts on social media.

Ultimately, Davis can say whatever he wants. The bottom line is that Paul has since moved on to a bigger (and much more dangerous) fight against Anthony Joshua, which Tank will be watching on Netflix like everyone else.

After the cancellation of the fight between Davis and Jake Paul, the stage is once again set for the long-awaited rematch: Roach vs Tank. But only under the right terms.

The saga between Lamont Roach Jr. and Gervonta Davis seemed to have come to an end. However, the super featherweight champion decided to speak out and revealed the conditions under which he would accept a rematch with “Tank“.

The story between Lamont Roach Jr. and Gervonta Davis has been one of the most relevant of the year in professional boxing. First there was talk of a rematch in June. Then, August appeared as a new tentative date, but none of that happened. Instead, fans received the announcement of the peculiar duel between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis, an exhibition fight with a consolation prize flavor that also ended up being canceled.

Who will be Lamont Roach Jr’s next opponent?

Today, as Paul prepares to face Anthony Joshua on December 19, Roach Jr. decided to take control of his own destiny. Instead of waiting for an uncertain call, he signed to challenge Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for the interim super lightweight title on the PBC-Amazon Prime card on December 6.

Even so, the echo of a possible rematch with Davis still lingers. And Roach himself confirmed that he does not rule it out… as long as certain guarantees are met.

Roach Jr. sets conditions for a possible rematch vs. Gervonta Davis

During an interview with Marcus Hayes for Fight Hub TV, the champion was blunt when asked if he still wants a second fight with “Tank.” Although he acknowledged that a big payday will always be attractive, he stopped short of getting carried away.

I mean, yeah, sure… But, you know, if it comes up, there’s a lot of guarantees I have to have, and you know, just in case it doesn’t happen again…” declared Roach Jr.

His stance comes after months of delays, changes and cancellations which he says affected not only his stability, but also that of the fighters on the undercard of the Paul vs. Tank event

That’s really unfortunate for them… I know what it’s like to be waiting for something and then it doesn’t happen,” he added.

For Roach Jr, it’s no longer just about the belt. It’s about respect.

Lamont Roach sends message to Gervonta Davis

While Davis faces personal problems and obvious professional uncertainty, Roach Jr. decided to look ahead. He made it clear with a blunt phrase:

My legacy will never depend on just one person

Lamont Roach

In the end, the future of this rivalry will depend on decisions that go beyond the ring. Lamont Roach Jr. has already shown that he is not willing to compromise his career for empty promises, while Gervonta Davis will have to decide if he wants to resume a path he left unfinished. For now, the super featherweight champion continues to build his legacy step by step, unencumbered and with his sights set on real opportunities.

Mandatory challenger says he’s ready to face Gervonta Davis for his WBA title

After losing out on a lucrative showdown with Jake Paul, Gervonta Davis’ plans have been spoiled. Now, the mandatory challenger for his WBA lightweight world title has called for his shot at the 135lb throne.

Davis was set to face Paul earlier this month, until ‘Tank’ was named in a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations – causing the cancellation of the contest, with Davis now being replaced by Anthony Joshua for the postponed fight date.

That outing would have been Davis’ second of the calendar, after picking up the first blemish on his professional record when he drew with Lamont Roach Jr. back in March, in what was his second defence of the full WBA lightweight crown.

Currently, it is unclear when Davis will return to action, if ever, but WBA mandatory challenger Floyd Schofield has now publicly demanded a fight with the Baltimore-born brute on his X account.

“We are his [Davis’] mandatory opponent @WBABoxing. We want to fight the best and Tank is levels above Shakur [Stevenson].

“This is a major step up from a Shakur; but we ready.”

As alluded to in the post, Schofield was scheduled to face Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight world title earlier this year but pulled out of the bout during fight week because of illness.

‘Kid Austin’ has since returned to action, where he scored a sensational first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer in what looks set to be his singular outing of the year, having also withdrawn from a planned November clash with JoJo Diaz due to injury.

Jake Paul’s true feelings about Gervonta Davis cancellation laid bare in new TikTok post

Jake Paul showed off the severity of his disappointment this morning in a new TikTok video from home.

The controversial boxer was due to face Gervonta Davis tonight on Netflix in Miami. However, last week the fight was cancelled following an investigation into recent allegations made against ‘Tank’ in a civil lawsuit.

Now Paul is eyeing a bout with Anthony Joshua, although the fight seems highly unlikely to happen within December as he had initially planned. And in this new TikTok, he can clearly be seen to still be upset about the ‘Tank’ cancellation.

It is clear how disappointed the social media star is as he asks his pals “Seriously” before demanding that they “turn that s— off”. When the ad loads again, he gets even more angry and demands it be switched off.

He has remained in camp for a potential December fight date, but it seems to be unlikely that he will land a bout next month. Talks have been held with the likes of Nate Diaz and Andre Ward, with latest reports indicating a clash with Anthony Joshua, the two-time heavyweight champion.

Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua looking unlikely for December date

While The Ring Magazine continue to report that Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua is a ‘done deal’ for December 19, that seems increasingly unlikely. Paul himself has commented on not the Joshua fight in particular, but the idea of competing within this year.
